Fictional characters

[edit]

You wrote on my page: "w:Suppandi is quite popular, if you ask me (and he is popular by his quotes). Maybe you haven't heard of it, but I'm not sure why it should be deleted (and please let me know on my talkpage; I was looking to add quotes when I found it missing). Thanks. Leaderboard (talk) 18:38, 1 September 2018 (UTC)"Reply

Better would be to add a page for the magazine from which the character came (with quotes sourced by magazine issue number and date). The quotes are not the issue, but rather having pages for individual characters taken from other works - it is always better to have such quotes contained on a page for the work. ~ UDScott (talk) 18:44, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@UDScott:, it's not a sporadic instance. This character is notorious for his quotes, and it would be inappropriate for me to include all of his quotes on the article of w:Tinkle, which is the magazine which has this character. Maybe if he came just once I can understand, but that's not the case. Though yes, I can cite the location of the quotes in each instance. Leaderboard (talk) 18:47, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, let me try it this way: if one were to create a page for Tinkle with numerous quotes from this character and you also were to create a page for Suppandi, with numerous quotes from the character, we would have overlap and likely a copyright issue. Again, better is to have one page for the work and make a page for the character that is a redirect to the page for the work (similar to the way we have a page for John Galt that is a redirect to the work from which he is known, Atlas Shrugged). ~ UDScott (talk) 18:52, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@UDScott: thanks, let me see. Part of my reluctance might be attributed to my unfamiliarity of Wikiquote; after all, that 'branching out' which you discourage is actually encouraged at Wikibooks (one-page textbooks are a oddity). Leaderboard (talk) 18:56, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
EDIT: That would then mean that I'll need to import the equivalent Wikipedia article first (as I'll have to copy the description of the magazine first)... or what? Thanks again.Leaderboard (talk) 18:57, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, my recommendation would be to follow a similar style to what we have for some webcomics pages (like Ctrl+Alt+Del or Dinosaur Comics - although the custom table of contents on Dinosaur Comics is definitely optional and is a more advanced presentation). Place a brief intro, likely with text from wikipedia, and group the quotes by year/issue. ~ UDScott (talk) 19:05, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

You are way out of line

[edit]

You are way out of line. Have you heard of AGF? I am a real person with real feelings. How much homework have you done before labeling me a "troll"? Ottawahitech (talk) 20:05, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech:, I did not label you a troll, it was the original comment that was trolling. I do not believe that AGF could be reasonably applied to that comment, and hence reverted it. The comment is clearly trolling in nature. Leaderboard (talk) 21:02, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ottawahitech:,@Leaderboard:, the ip was expressing that there was a personal dispute between Vermont and Risto, this point of view is not trolling, and using an analogy (peace pipe) is also not trolling, but perhaps confusing
The point of view made by the ip was also made by others, for example this comment by @Ehitaja:
'From the viewpoint of Estonian Wikiquotes and Wikipedia, Risto hasn't done anything to deserve the block, hence I see no reason to block an active user from one project just because somebody on a completely different project hates them. And some people certainly have it in for them, because while there are articles about him in Finnish and Estonian Wikipedia, in both of which the local community has discussed their relevance and decided to let it be, some emissaries have been traipsing through, seeking for revenge, and demanding that the natives would delete the articles. That's certainly an interesting attitude. --Ehitaja (talk) 08:48, 11 September 2019 (UTC) original comment here -- ~ #SheSaid 12:31, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@დამოკიდებულება: I cannot comment on Risto's block because I lack the background of his case. But I still think that particular comment was trolling; the comment you quoted of Ehitaja is fine because that one clearly explains their viewpoint. The trolling comment didn't. Leaderboard (talk) 12:44, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I understand your rationale now. Thanks for explaining. -- ~ #SheSaid 12:56, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
For clarification, that IP is Risto. Also, blocking sockpuppets and getting a bit annoyed when users try to get a long-term sockmaster unlocked without reason does not imply any personal dispute. Vermont (talk) 19:28, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • @Leaderboard: This was your edit summary:

Are you serious? This is clear trolling, and you should not be promoting it.

I understand that you did not mean to label me, but you did label someone a "troll". Why do you feel you have the right to parachute into a discussion that you have not followed (you said so yourself) and order other participants what to do or not do? What gives you the right to remove comments? Ottawahitech (talk) 23:24, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ottawahitech: While you are right in that normal comments are not to be removed, it is considered OK to remove comments that are clearly hateful or trolling in nature. And this observation for the comment in dispute was shared by other users as well. Leaderboard (talk) 08:20, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ottawahitech: This is getting ridiculous, where you claim you are hurt and your feelings are damaged by someone perceived to be labelled you as a troll and they didn't AGF. Fair enough, you are entitled to that claim and no one is allowed to call someone else a troll. However, I don't see you reacting to that IP in the same manner. They called @Vermont: revenging, and refusing to smoke peace pipe. How on earth are such accusation different from perceived calling you a troll. You didn't say the IP is "way out of the line" but defended them. If you want people to respect you, please also respect others. Your behavior here isn't respecting Vermont (by repeatedly re-instating the attack on Vermont even if it is removed by others) and also groundlessly attacking Leaderboard. If I may put to you, Leaderboard feelings as well as Vermont one in the same vein is hurt by your activities. Please consider my point carefully: Do not do unto others what you do not want to be done to you. Best Regards, Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:36, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
