Blnguyen, User:Albertbrown80, formerly User:Funnypop12, has been repeatedly blanking an entire text section of Muhammad for many months now. He has now taken this behavior to Islamic view of Jesus. While not particularly active, this vandalism is the only thing these usernames have ever contributed to Wikipedia. Additionally, it seems likely that the are sockpuppets of another user. Repeated blocks, including your last block of one week, have made no impression on him; he just picks up and resumes as if nothing had happened; indeed, he evaded his last Funnypop12 block by opening Albertbrown80. In that regard, we have a problem re RfCU: its existence makes some admins reluctant to block obvious socks without having run it by RfCU, but RfCU says explicitly that they do not deal with these types of situations.Proabivouac 03:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Blnguyen. I sent you e-mail last week requesting clarification to the 24 hour ban I received for allegedly breaking the 3RR, but you did not reply. Welcome back ... and you knew that someone was going to ask you how you wanted your status to be recorded for ArbCom voting purposes. If you would prefer something else (e.g., moving you to active on all pending cases, or on cases not yet in voting, or leaving you inactive for awhile longer, or whatever), please let us know. License tagging for Image:Kunta-haji.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kunta-haji.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I have changed the nom. However, please still feel free to adjust it or use a new one if you find something interesting, as you see fit. Thank you for your time. Smee 06:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  • That's not a problem at all. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 09:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Can you do me a favor and take a look at 2 of my noms that are expired, one in May 14 and one in May 13? I added some points there regarding prior comments. Smee 11:04, 21 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]
  • To be honest, I have a personal preference to not nominate every article I create for DYK, because for some of them, there simply isn't anything interesting or unusual about them. I looked at the expired ones, and I was unconvinced. The stuff about NPOV isn't an issue. They are the best sourced articles we have on DYK. It may still be POV, but not really anything more than other articles I saw there. To simply say that a books made an impact doesn't really tell us anything interesting, as I guess that if it doesn't, then it would fail WP:N. As for the other one, there isn't really anything interesting given the title. Personally I don't like using "dicdef" or "naming" hooks for DYK, unless it is coutnerintuitive, eg "...that Quantum groups are not actually groups but [[|algebraic structure|algebra]]s? " is a misnomer or "..that there are 13 in a baker's dozen". I also generally don't like sourced POV like "...that someguy is reagrded as the best at something..." since there will always be someone who is the best. Better with weird things like John Devitt, Cecil Healy and 1955 South Vietnamese election - see User:Blnguyen/DYK. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi - thanks, but I disagree with your move. My evidence only contains relevant quotes of e-mail text. All of those e-mail conversations are vital to highlight at this stage of the case. Additionally, "privacy" has been respected as only relevant segments of conversations have been posted. I will restore the full version shortly.

Should I point out that Hkelkar and co. have relentlessly spammed other users about all this nonsense? Where is their sense of courtesy? I'm sorry but I have to insist on re-posting the specific lines of conversation that are most relevant and provide context. 16 May AfDs

[edit]

Dear Blnguyen (Yellow Monkey?) -- I was wondering if you would consider taking a second look at some of your AfD closings from 16 May. I am not sure that some of them reflect community consensus. For CyberPower PCs, for instance, another administrator KrakatoaKatie relisted to get a further consensus--three further arguments were given, two for keeping and one against, I am not sure how this could have resulted in a consensus to delete. I think your argument is a good one, but I think that arguments like this should happen in the AfD and not in the closing, where they can't be disputed by other users. Similarly, for Cec Cinder, two other admins felt that the discussion did not reflect consensus; after four more voices were added--two for and two against--you closed as "spam" based on a low alexa rank, which no voice had the opportunity to dispute. Finally, for Titus North, the only AfD I participated in (where I suggested Neutral, leaning delete), you stated "Does not pass the PROF or political guidelines; no reasons given as why this person is an unusual case. As pointed out, he was the second of two candidates, so he was the only outlet for dissent." No one argued that he passed PROF, so that seems uncontroversial, but whether the community felt that he passed the political guidelines had not been concluded--it seemed like a relisting to get further consensus was in order. Thanks for considering these ideas. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as far as the CyberPower one is concerned, I note one of the opiners said keep per WP:V, which is a necessary but not a sufficient criteria for retention. As for my extra comments, I should note that one person did cite the WP:CORP guidelines and I simply put an explanation as to why this failed. I guess it would be better if the opiner explained why it failed, since I can see that it may be perceived that I have veered into becoming an active participant. But I see that the DRV is up and running so we can have a discussion there.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For Titus North, some people did invoke PROF, although that was to show that he was not notable on as an academic. This is pertinent I feel, since in the article his claims are due to academia as well as election. It was also noted by one opiner that he was one of only two candidates. Possibly the user meant to imply that if he came second out of three of four candidates that would be better. Perhaps I read too much between the lines, but I got the impression that there was an implication that he would have gotten votes because he was the only outlet for expressing dissent at the incumbent. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As for Cinder, the same broad sentiments were expressed about RS, N etc. Since there was no forthcoming extra evidence I went to do a take a look, but the sourcing problems were still there also. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. For Titus North I did think I saw that he was the second of two candidates in a run-off after having already defeated "minor" candidates (including a Republican one); or something like that--there was certainly a debate involving more than two candidates (in which North, like all but the eventual winner, had only passing coverage in the press). I'm not sure if being NOT endorsed (even after a lengthy discussion) by a major newspaper is noteworthy; like I said, I agree with your decision in all three cases, but I wasn't sure that there was a consensus yet to delete. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 15:40, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub?

[edit]

Dear Blnguyen, if you care to cast your eye over the history of Roger Morrice, you will see that it's slightly unusual. I wished to nominate the recent expansion for DYK, in order to encourage further mainspace contributions by Clio the Muse:

But, on second thoughts, I decided that it still looks stubby. I'd like to know your opinion whether it could eventually qualify. --Ghirla-трёп- 20:05, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ghirla, I looked at the three articles and do not see which one that Clio had written. But anything goes as long as it is expanded 4-5x. I let a 10k thing on DYK after it went to 40k. Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 04:02, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to have bothered you in vain. It is Roger Morrice, and I was too sleepy to type it correctly yesterday. I see that, with the current deluge of nominations, the requirements are very stringent. We'll have to expand the article before nominating it. --Ghirla-трёп- 14:15, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We'll see how it goes. Its position in the queue depends on the backlog I guess. Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 02:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

With regard to my self-nom of Robert Alexander Inch, I have to say that in a year now on Wikipedia, this is the first time I've ever been told that anything I wrote was too short. (Normally, I get the opposite complaint; I once asked a wiki-friend if he'd seen my !vote yet on Mackensen's RfB, and his response was "yes, I read your book.") Regards, Newyorkbrad 03:48, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(I saw your response on the DYK talkpage) I must have missed the minor wheel war of January 15—I wasn't paying attention to DYK back then (actually my RfA was going on that week, so I was definitely focused elsewhere). Please tell me there wasn't an edit-war over DYK selections. Newyorkbrad 04:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I must be a really cranky guy these days....:(.....but these days we have a lot of supply and sometimes when there is one less update per day than we are, that buts us on the back foot...although....if things swap over real quick, we could catch it up....but 2100 chars is not so big....these days I don't self-nom anything less than 3k, and a lot of my recent ones User:Blnguyen/DYK....as well as that when I am not looking, some guys let through tautological hooks like "...that the Scientology Centre does research on Scientology" etc, etc..... But then I guess after the minor wheel war on January 15, we don't want to talk too much about subjective interestingness do we? Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 03:55, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Already responded on your talk (I was responding there while you were cross-posting here). Oh, and happy anniversary. :) Regards, Newyorkbrad 04:02, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Violetriga wheel-warred his stuff onto T:DYK over the objections about his tautological hook...about bad safety -> deaths and injuries despite me dissenting on the suggestions page and two further admins ignoring it on earlier occasions. Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 04:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Violetriga? Frankly, I didn't know there were active admins I've still never heard of! The only previous controversy I had seen about a DYK item that actually made the mainpage was when Essjay controversy was listed in March for I believe it was 9 minutes. Oh, and of course if you don't fit Robert A. Inch in I will have to reserve and pursue all of my rights and remedies ... as you know, I have connections on the Arbitration Committee ... wait, never mind.... :) Regards, Newyorkbrad 04:10, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or you could stick the DYK clock on your page and update it when it goes red, and when it speeds up, there will be more opportunities for everyone. Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 04:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newsletter

[edit]

Hi Blnguyen, how are you doing? If you are active, can you create the May newsletter? I will distribute it.. Thanks — Lost(talk) 02:29, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I think I need a bit of a rest from India related events for a while for rather obvious reasons. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well the image is really neat! The politics warrants that a non Indian do the reporting ;). And yeah, your prediction may indeed come true soon enough:)... Well, I guess we will have to forgo this edition then... Hope sanity prevails soon — Lost(talk) 10:57, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]

Hi., i was working on the List of Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh wikipage and removed the earlier reference to caste/community of the CM. I checked with the other CM list for reference - List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu (FL) and there is no mention of the caste/community of the CM. An anom. editor (59.93.77.103) added the detail back and left this message on the talk page of the article - "no. caste is relevent. ap politics without caste is a joke - 59.93.77.103". I am wondering if we need to semi-protect this page. Let me know. Kalyan 18:14, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, unfortunately you can't sprotect a page to disable an anon opponent, but I disagree that it should not be there. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The main page says waterfowl pictured and shows the image of a kite (not a waterfowl) from the Flight feather article. A suitable waterfowl image can be picked from almost any Duck article instead. Cheers Shyamal 06:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry ! It has been noted in the right place on the main page error reports. Shyamal 06:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it has been fixed. Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 02:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Hi: Thanks very much for your comments on my flight feather article. I worked hard on it, so it's certainly nice to have it recognized! And I'll add my congratulations to those listed above; you do a lot of work here, and we certainly appreciate it! MeegsC | Talk 08:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mass DYKs

[edit]

I'll try and keep them down now. I just had a productive day that day. I was supposed to be covering the last two days of the Intercontinental Cup final for CricketEurope, but it finished early, leaving me with two whole days off work. I put my efforts into Wikipedia! Sajjida Shah is, as you said a remarkable woman. The thing I find most remarkable, but didn't use as the hook as non-cricket people might not understand it, is that despite having the best bowling figures in ODIs, she's only bowled one over in her two Tests! Andrew nixon 09:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok. If ALoan is willing to pick one on European day shift and I pick one on Australian day shift we can manage two....and then wait for the transatlantic knockers. :). Wow you work as a cricket journo...could you get us some pics? :) Blnguyen (cranky admin anniversary) 02:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
