Orphaned non-free media (Image:London Olympics 2012 logo.svg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:London Olympics 2012 logo.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:14, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Gnuzilla logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gnuzilla logo.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two public domain images mix together is not automatically in the public domain (it's sad but it is like that). Did you have any clear evidence that this logo is PD ? Canada site seem telling it's not PD. Moreover, the authors has to be more accurate than Likely a member or members of the Government of Canada. You can see further with DoubleBlue (talk · contribs) who propose this file to deletion. I just found the file on Commons Category:Copyright violations and logo are usually not PD that why I delete it (maybe too fast, sorry). I hope my english is good enough. You're welcome. Just one thing I didn't understand, why use www1.servicecanada.gc.ca/eforms/forms/2006/nas2120e.pdf as the source ? This is a black and white form and the logo is black and red. Why not simply use http://www.canada.gc.ca/ instead ? VIGNERON * discut. 16:39, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA

[edit]

Best of you on your RFA -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 02:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tkgd2007. Your RfA, although still fresh, might not be going the way you might have thought it would. I'm here to suggest you withdraw it. If you do this, and notify me on my talk page, I can close it. But it is extremely likely to be closed per snow, like so many have done so before. Best regards. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 02:41, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its closed. I hope you do return and try again given time and more experience in admin related areas. Keep up the good work. Best regards from SynergeticMaggot (talk) 02:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The admin related area's are: WP:AN, WP:ANI, WP:XfD, and this is just to start. I suggest anything at WP:ARL for reading, and possibly admin coaching if you're interested. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 03:07, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your revision of Metal Gear Solid

[edit]

I know you acted in the best of interests, but you failed to notice one crucial point: Yes, the editor blanked a reception section; but the reception section was vandalism - copied word-by-word from the Super Smash Bros. Brawl article. (You'll notice that these two games aren't the same) See for yourself - [1]. Next time, please pay a little more careful attention to what you revert. --haha169 (talk) 00:43, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Everything is fine – and I think the person who blanked the ‘’edit summary’’, not the page, is new, so you can’t exactly blame him for not leaving one. I found out who did it though – the GA nominator for that article. And I’m the assessor…how awkward. I still can’t believe he did that… --haha169 (talk) 04:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism question

[edit]

Yes, usually I'll give them a {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism2}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism3}}, and {{subst:uw-vandalism4}}. If they vandalize after that 4th warning, I'll block them. However, if all of their edits are vandalism, they can be blocked before getting all the warnings. In this case, he's definitely not here to help the encyclopedia, take a look at his userpage, and it appears to be a vandalism-only account. I'll block him. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. For future reference, once an editor has received the four warnings (or is a vandalism-only account) you can report them at WP:AIV. Useight (talk) 22:08, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where did this page have to go to?

[edit]

I have no idea what to do with this page: All your base are belong to us/Sandbox. I assume this had to be a user subpage, but i have no idea where to move this(This does not belong into the article space, does it?). Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Talk:All your base are belong to us/sandbox, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Talk:All your base are belong to us/sandbox provides no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Talk:All your base are belong to us/sandbox, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 22:31, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was contemplating which images to put back when I accidentally hit the revert button. But I don't see why you want to remove almost half the images, most of which have something important to say. What standards are you trying to comply with? Dicklyon (talk) 22:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rock_Band_Icons.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rock_Band_Icons.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Editor review

[edit]

Hello Tom, I see where you had requested adminship. I see a lot of good wikignome edits, which is good. You may find the following advice helpful. If you have not done so already, please read

  • Generally, It has been my experience that it takes at least 3,000 edits in a variety of areas to learn policy and guidelines well enough to attempt adminship. Also, nominees returning after an unsuccessful RfA should wait at least another 3,000 edits and 3 months before trying again. Nominees need to show the ability to contribute a number of significant edits to build the encyclopedia.
  • The Admin tools allow the user to block and unblock other editors, delete and undelete pages and protect and unprotect pages. It's a good idea to gain experience and familiarity with such areas as WP:AIV, WP:AFD, WP:CSD, Wikipedia:Protection policy, and WP:BLOCK to learn when to do these things.
  • Adminship inevitably leads one to 1) need to explain clearly the reasons for one's decisions, 2) need to review one's decisions and change one's mind when it is reasonable to do so, 3) need to review one's decisions and stand firm when it is reasonable to do so, 4) need to negotiate a compromise. You should have a familiarity with dispute resolution. The ability to communicate clearly is essential.
  • Article building is the raison d'être of Wikipedia. I recommend significant participation in WP:GA or WP:FA as the surest way to gain article building experience. You can create new articles, expand stubs and wikify articles.
  • After you've increased your experience and knowledge of the policies and guidelines, you can try try again in another 3 months and 3000 edits. I recommend taking part in RfA discussions to help learn from the experiences of others. You may find it helpful to obtain an other Editor Review or to receive Admin coaching before submitting their RfA. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy editing. Hope this helps, Dlohcierekim 00:33, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Accessibility template icon.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:49, 11 July 2008 (UTC). Thanks for uploading Image:Milton Bradley Company logo.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Speedy deletion of Image:Java logo.svg

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Java logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Java logo.svg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
