Understood, I did not know that the talk pages were also for serious discussion. I will not start topics that are not necessary, such as the one I have made in the Elephant's Foot Talk Page. I will still have some humor in my discussions, however they will still be related and respectful.
I am sorry and I will quit this behavior. understood, and thank you. Taffy boeing b 17 (talk) 16:32, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wing loading

[edit]

Hi Taffy! I saw your question about Wing loading. (I am like you - I like airplanes!)

The designers of most airplanes are keen to reduce drag, especially in cruise. They do this by keeping the wing area as small as possible so long as stalling speed is not too high. Designers can keep the stalling speed low enough during take-off by using large wing flaps that increase the wing area but can be retracted after take-off to reduce the wing area. As the wing area is reduced as the flaps retract, the wing loading increases to its maximum value for the cruise phase.

There are some other advantages to a higher wing loading, and some disadvantages, but for most airplane designs the most important consideration is drag during the cruise and the desire to keep cruise drag low so the airplane can cruise at the fastest speed, and travel the maximum distance for the fuel carried. Thank you! so they can have more range and less drag, but they can't turn as well, which is fine for an airliner. thx for the info! <3 Taffy boeing b 17 (talk) 15:31, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
