Tagging pages for deletion
[edit]Hello, Johnj1995,
Just a reminder that any time you tag any page for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/CFD/RFD/etc.), you need to post a notice on the talk page of the page creator informing them of the tagging. It can be helpful if you use Twinkle and set up your Preferences to "Notify page creator" and make sure all CSD criteria boxes are checked off. Then Twinkle will post these messages for you which is convenient. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:46, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
CSD U2s
[edit]Hello, Johnj1995,
Redirects from old user pages to new user pages are permitted when an editor changes their username. There are typically a lot of incoming links and even though the username isn't currently used by an active editor, they are not tagged for speedy deletion unless the editor deletes their main user page and the page becomes a broken redirect. But user talk pages are usually retained.
Thanks for all of your contributions, I come across your deletion taggings every day which makes things easier for admins patrolling CSD categories. Liz Read! Talk! 19:29, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I only tagged this page because the user moved their user page and then reverted the move, which triggered a "User self-renaming or moving user talk pages into article talk space" filter. Johnj1995 (talk) 19:33, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Johnj1995, I also wanted to add, "Thank you!" for all of the work you do. I think I come across your tagging and edits on a daily basis which is quite a commitment as a Wikipedia editor. Just today, you retagged some CSD G5 articles and drafts where you not only spotted the tagging mistake but spent time tracking down the original sockmaster and correcting the tag. It may seem like a minor matter but if there is a question about the page deletion, it really helps things to have a correct deletion summary.
- I hope you consider requesting some additional editor permissions and taking on some more responsibilities. Some of them can really making your editing easier and as such an active editor, they could come in handy. Thanks again! Liz Read! Talk! 21:05, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Johnj1995,
You are usually pretty accurate in your page tagging but I don't think you even looked at the page history on this page. The first clue that this wasn't a regular nonexistent user page is the fact that it looked like an article, not a User page. When there are pages that look like articles on an editor's main User page, it's better to move them to Draft space than tag them for deletion. It's an often a sign that the editor isn't aware that User pages are not the proper place for an article draft.
But in this case, if you had looked at the page history, you'd have seen two things. First, this page was 16 years old! It had a long history and wasn't just a User page for a nonexistent editor. It's been around longer than you or I have been editors. Secondly, you would have seen that a relatively new editor had moved it several times, from main space to Wikipedia space then to User space. The correct action to take was not to tag this page for deletion but to move it back to main space. And, by the way, the admin who deleted this page should have caught this error as well.
Try not to get so busy when you are patrolling that you start to act automatically without taking in all of the possibilities when you see a page that looks like it is in the wrong namespace. Thanks for all of your contributions to the project. Liz Read! Talk! 00:18, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Johnj1995,
Every day I see past and present incidents where you have corrected misapplied templates, frequently by new editors. These are not edits that get a lot of attention so I thought I'd award you a barnstar for catching these errors and straightening up draft pages and articles that might be infrequently viewed by others. Reverted edit on Teng (surname)
[edit]Why have you reverted my edit on this page? I provided a justification for it on the Talk page, and you have not, either there or in your edit summary; further I see here you have a long history of unproductive edits. I will be reinstating my edit, and if you disagree then please make your case on the talk page instead of edit warring. Mistaken deletion
[edit]Dear Johnj1995, I hope you are well. The image you deleted from the Ùr-Sgeul page is in fact a free image licensed by the publisher through Creative Commons, available from Flickr and I have also received permission from the publisher to use it. I will revert the deletion you undertook today, I hope you don't mind, as it is not true to say it is a non-free image. Many thanks and I hope this clarifies the situation. Kind regards, Rosgadair Rosgadair (talk) 17:43, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. Unfortunately, the publisher licensed the image with a non-commercial license, which is not valid for usage on Wikipedia. You will need to provide Wikipedia with the permission that you received from the publisher. Please see this page for information on how to do this. Johnj1995 (talk) 17:56, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you Johnj1995. I will ask the publisher to provide Wikipedia with the permission and will follow the guidelines on the page you highlight in your reply. Perhaps you can provide, if possible, guidance as to what Commons license they should have specified when uploading to Flickr: the publisher did so in good spirit in an attempt to make this available to Wiki et al, and have clearly chosen, according to your guidance, the wrong licence. The image is not for sale in any way, it is free, and they wanted to make this clear. But if you could provide advice, that will be useful. In the meantime, I will get them to email the permissions address. Kind regards. Rosgadair (talk) 18:48, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- Dear Johnj1995, I have received word from the publisher (owner of the image) who have confirmed they have changed and updated the license for the image to Attribution (CC By 2.0) which is acceptable to Wikipedia according to this page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Licensing#acceptable_licences Rosgadair (talk) 19:29, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

The two pic files you flagged to me
[edit]I uploaded "File:Crowbone.jpg" and "File:The Untold Tales of Little Crowbone.jpg" in order to have book-cover pics ready as I was creating the articles of the same names... which I saved not long afterward. Book covers are indeed "not free", but are acceptable for articles on those books. – •Raven .talk 01:19, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Non-free files must be used in an article or they will be deleted. Please also note that non-free files cannot be used in a draft. Johnj1995 (talk) 01:24, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Both Crowbone and The Untold Tales of Little Crowbone are mainspace, as the bluelinks indicate. While I was amid editing Crowbone, another editor tried moving that page (only) to Draft... but, not being aware of that, I saved my edit, retaining the mainspace position. Also, the draft page has just been redirected (by another editor) back to the mainspace version. So the short period between picfile creation and using article creation was the only time there was nothing using the picfiles. You happened to find and react to them during that short time. Points for swiftness then... please be as swift now. – •Raven .talk 03:14, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Changing CSD Tags
[edit]Please don’t change speedy deletion tags as you did here. It’s just annoying to deal with. Also read WP:R3 before putting R3 speedy deletion tags into redirects. That redirect wasn’t recently created and thus didn’t qualify for R3 speedy deletion. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 19:24, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Query
[edit]Hello, Johnj1995,
I'm not sure what about File:Wendy crane.jpeg and File:Wendy crane112.jpeg makes you think they are vandalism. They don't have the proper copyright information so a bot will tag them for deletion. I'm just wondering if there is something about the images that I'm missing. To be honest, I don't see many images tagged for speedy deletion. Liz Read! Talk! 02:43, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
I tagged the images because the user was blocked for disruptive editing. These images were only uploaded for use on pages that were deleted. Johnj1995 (talk) 03:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, please do not talk file talk pages for speedy deletion as WP:CSD#F2. This criterion only applies to file description pages, not their corresponding talk pages. Previous discussions, most recently Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 81#File talk pages which consist only of boilerplates, wikiproject tags, and/or text which has been copied to Commons, did not find support to delete local talk pages of files hosted on Commons. ✗plicit 13:34, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Jane Bowles.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Jane Bowles.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 19:13, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

Bosnian LGBT categories
[edit]Hello, Johnj1995,
Thanks for retagging these categories. On my patrols through CSD categories, I've noticed that you have done that a lot, fixing incorrectly tagged pages and marking them with the correct CSD criteria. This kind of work on the project, by and large, goes unseen so I just wanted to say that it is appreciated. It makes things much simpler for admins reviewing CSD-tagged pages if they are correctly tagged.
By the way, if it looks like the editor might be here for the long-term, these kind of tagging mix-ups might warrant a personal note on their talk page, letting them know that they should review WP:CSD so they understand the criteria better. Thanks again for all of your help! Liz Read! Talk! 01:28, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Blocked users
[edit]Hey - I don't know how you arrived at DidyouknowthattheresatunnelunderOceanBoulevard's talk page, but just a word of advice: blocked users aren't required to keep the block notices on their userpages. If I block a troll and they replace my notice with 'you're an asshole', I just leave them to it. If they're persistently posting racist/sexist/whateverist abuse, I'll revoke talk page access, but generally it's best just to ignore them. There's a reason for that - if whoever is behind their account gets email notifications of messages on their talk page (I think that's the default), they will just have gotten an email about a post on their talk. Maybe they will get pleasure from knowing that someone read their message. Maybe it will encourage them to come back and cause more trouble. Whatever the outcome, it can not be better than 'zero effect', and it might be worse. Better just to block them and ignore them.
Please don't think I'm telling you off or anything - just a bit of advice for future reference. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 18:49, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]I dispute that this is a 'better tag'. This is a long-term problem, as described at meta:NTSAMR. U5 is within administrator discretion and can easily be turned down – that's what the spammer relies upon. G5 indicates that further research is required. Please tell me you at least looked at meta:NTSAMR (as noted in the CSD template and the edit summary) before you changed the rationale? — Trey Maturin™ 16:17, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]I work for CAAC and I'm so glad that making the list of airports in China more standard and more professional with your help! But there are still some problems I can't solve: 1. The construction work of Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport has not started yet (this project just premitted by State Council and CMC on October 2022, and then it needs NDRC's premit to start constructing). Also the project of Nagqu Dagring Airport was abandoned already due to choosen location in a too-high elevation. Foshan Gaoming International Airport(Pearl River Delta International Airport) is not under construction too, there is 25 airports under construction formally, but I can't edit the Template:Airports in China; 2. I added the talks to Urumqi Airport and Wuxi Airport for moving the article to the correct name, but there is no effects, especially senior-editor refused my request for moving "Ürümqi Airport" to "Urumqi Airport" after I pasted the evidence of movement's feasibility. 二武是大猫 (talk) 14:28, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
airBaltic NS24 service changes
[edit]Good evening John,
I just wanted to remind you that you can not just remove all the services citing "Route will not be operated in NS24". These flights are still operating, almost each until end of October, thus they have an end date. Just totally removing them is not in accordance with WP:Airports.
Would be great if you could do some research about the end dates before removing and self-revert your recent edits.
E.g.: VNOHAM ends 27.10.23, RIXHAJ and RIXSTR both end 28.10.23 and so on.

[edit]Hello Johnj1995 -- I've declined a couple of your recent G11 speedy requests on old userspace article drafts. [edit]Hi
You're kindly required to not arbitrarly remove referenced flights/services as you did for BeOnd service from/to Malpensa. The arbitrary removal of contents is considered a vandalism. The missing of the exact date in the reference is NOT a valid argument to entirley remove the information. If you think that a different or more accurate reference is needed, feel free to add. Alternatively, consider the use of the Citation needed tools.

[edit]Hi there. While I'm sure it's not your intent, the actions you are taking on Miss Afghanistan are getting into edit war territory. - User:Drmies, sorry I didn't see this earlier. I re-removed with it because WP:UCSD don't apply to draftspace. I believe that is because WP:G13 results in automatic deletion eventually so it is seen as busywork to expand WP:U5 to cover draftspace as well though you could inquire more about the reasoning at WT:CSD. The Pages were created too early for WP:G5 to apply unless an older blocked account is found, and draftspace duplicates are explicitly covered by WP:NOTCSD point 16. We are allowed to redirect those to get rid of them under limited circumstances, and I have done so with Draft:Unrecognized countries. But unless both title and scope are a close match that will draw complaints, so I have left the rest for WP:G13. Apologies for the procedural tangle. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:9890:12E8:5E1F:8654 (talk) 18:47, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- As for Draft:Games I Been I think that is a test page, potentially WP:G2, or maybe a deliberately disruptive creation disguised as a test, potentially WP:G3. But if it turns out it does attempt to cover some actual sporting event then tagging will only result in delaying WP:G13 when the WP:G2 is removed so I am not going to touch it so it can be deleted in another three months when it will be indisputably eligible for G13. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:9890:12E8:5E1F:8654 (talk) 18:54, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- After reading their talk page, I would bet that this was subtle disruption, possibly intended to waste our time and tie us in procedural knots, but listing at WP:MFD or taking any further time on this would just be giving them what they want, all G13 requires is that we do nothing. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:9890:12E8:5E1F:8654 (talk) 19:00, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

CS1 error on Izumo Airport
[edit]Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Izumo Airport, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:
- A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 22:31, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
Your most recent change there was a revert with no edit summary. The anonymous user reverted you and I accepted it at pending changes because I don't know why you undid it. If you had left an explanation, what would it have been? City of Silver 00:08, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

This is with respect to that change which I can not see : https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Wisdood&diff=prev&oldid=1209468033

It was spam and was probably similar to this edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category_talk:2007_FIBA_Americas_Championship&oldid=1209468182 Johnj1995 (talk) 16:03, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
Question about an edit
[edit]Hey Johnj1995. I had a question regarding this edit. In it, you changed “Two Israelis are shot and killed in an attack at a gas station near Eli, West Bank” to be “Two Israelis are shot and killed in an attack at a gas station near Eli in the occupied West Bank
” (green bolding being the addition). I wanted to ask why you did that addition? Earlier in the day, I had removed it from the phrase due to it being irrelevant to the actual event being reported and seemed more POV. Since I removed it earlier, it would be a violation of 1RR to revert it. So, I wanted to ask your reasoning on that addition and maybe why you think it is relevant to the event? The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 06:31, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
I probably should not have added that, although the page was not subject to edit restrictions when I made my edit. I believe that the phrase "occupied West Bank" was used in current events listings before the war began. I have removed these words. Johnj1995 (talk) 19:32, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]thank you for trusting me to edit the article of chinese airports during this period. but now, i'm tired to discuss with some wiki managers, and follow their command that make me very confused. so i decided to quit every wiki editing, so please continue to maintaining the airports list in china. and many many thanks. 二武是大猫 (talk) 17:02, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Cleanup?
[edit]Hi! What made you think that my custom rationale for deleting this unambiguous UPE needed to be "cleaned up"? I know you are a valuable editor and significant asset to this project, but please ... don't do that again, if you don't mind? Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:08, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- And then you did the same thing again at Draft:Yash Shah. Does it not occur to you that if I write a custom deletion rationale instead of using the standard Twinkle options, it's probably for a reason (such as making it easier for my fellow admins to follow my reasoning)? You also removed a custom rationale at User:Jettmuu/sandbox, replacing it with a generic one that is not applicable (there's no text in the page). Please confirm, here in this thread, that you'll stop doing this. Many thanks, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:19, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Removing CSD tag
[edit]Hi @Johnj1995,
I saw you removed this CSD tag as "not valid" without reading the rationale or finding the reason. Same reason or the film disambiguator you've added was recently moved per Special:PermanentLink/1230815921#Requested move 17 June 2024, and maybe because it was closed and went through WP:RM/TR, there was a bit delay with the moving. As the DAB page stands, it's not necessary per Wikipedia:PTM, and should be removed as tagged earlier. Pls consider reverting your edit. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 14:43, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Removal of BSH info
[edit]I removed it, as that's a Hippa violation to mention patients names. I didn't know where I write that. I will remove it again, and add that if i can find where I add that. Ready2Edit73 (talk) 22:57, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
User talk pages not normally deleted?
[edit]You removed a speedy deletion request with the edit summary "User talk pages are not normally deleted". A quick look through my watchlist gives me three user talk pages that I successfully nominated for speedy deletion recently:
- User talk:2400:C600:462F:8312:1:0:8DE7:B3CE (G10)
- User talk:2600:1006:B065:70C8:92D9:D8DD:7A91:76B2 (G10)
- User talk:Baronsmith61 (G11)
Evidently they are deleted, including under G11 which was what you removed. It's not really necessary to delete it, blanking achieves basically the same effect, but it is done. And it does send a stronger message, I would say. So I think removing the tag was improper. I'm not going to re-request speedy deletion since you've now removed the promotional material, but I just wanted to let you know. --Un assiolo (talk) 20:55, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Per WP:DELTALK, user talk pages are generally not deleted as they are usually needed for reference by other users. Individual edits may be deleted or redacted for privacy reasons or because of harassment or other serious violations. Exceptions to this are occasionally made if there is a good reason for the deletion. Johnj1995 (talk) 21:05, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- A user talk page that has no history or content other than spam or abuse is not needed for reference by anyone. This is the case with the three listed above and with the one from which you removed the template. --Un assiolo (talk) 21:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Piarco International Airport
[edit]Hi,
I saw you undid my edit on the returning EWR-POS route with the reason "not a regularly scheduled flight." It's a seasonal route just like many others that is bookable as a regular flight unlike some other seasonal routes from POS. It's also a returning route. There is no reason to remove it from the destinations list on the basis that it's "not regularly scheduled," because for that seasonal period, it is, and it is bookable as such. If the route is not reinstated after that period, then obviously it can be removed.
Thanks. Randomusername0902 (talk) 02:00, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
PRODs
[edit]Hello, Johnj1995,
Just a reminder, if an editor has removed a PROD tag from an article or file, it shouldn't be added back, even if the editor who removed didn't offer an explanation for its removal. It looks likes you added back all of the PROD tags removed by User:108.49.49.128 which was incorrect and I, GB fan and Explicit reverted your edits. There might be an exception for sockpuppets but, to be honest, I haven't run into that yet on this platform. Basically, a PROD tag can only be added to an article or file once.
Thank you for all of your many, many helpful contributions while you are patrolling. It's appreciated! Liz Read! Talk! 20:01, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
I only reverted the removals because the IP had been replacing the prods with redirects and not removing any other content on the page. Three speedy templates (including a g7 that you later converted to a prod) were also removed by the IP. Johnj1995 (talk) 20:52, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Map of the 1891 Dutch elections
[edit]Hey I saw you deleted the map made for the 1891 Dutch elections calling it an invalid image. Would you mind expanding on that a bit? Why was the image invalid and why is it less valid than any other Dutch election map? Dees de Jong (talk) 02:06, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Pakistan gold medal
[edit]My bad on the removal there - got careless and saw they'd won gold at the Olympics before, so assumed it meant first of the 2024 games. Didn't realize all three of their previous golds were in field hockey, so it truly was their first-ever individual gold. The Kip (contribs) 22:39, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Deletion discussion about Improvolution
[edit]Hello Johnj1995, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Improvolution, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Improvolution.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|CFA}}
. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~

Southend airport
[edit]Hi and thanks for adding a reference. I'm trying to make up my mind on how explicit referencing should be on airline-destination tables in airport pages. Suppose airline X flies from airport A to 10 destinations and we have a reliable independent source which substantiates 4 of the destinations from airport A. Should that reference be added once next to the name of the airline X in the wikitable, or should it be added 4 times next to each destination. The former makes the wikitable easier to read and more attractive, but the latter makes it more explicit - ie you know exactly which URL to look at. I'm tending towards adding a reference just once, but wondered what you thought. Pmbma (talk) 19:55, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Would you like your user page protected from recreation? Per policy, I could do either ECP or full protection—your choice. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:13, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you but not necessary at this time. Protection would only be useful if the page was repeatedly created as vandalism. This was probably created accidentally after I edited a page that that user created. Johnj1995 (talk) 22:19, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Tagging unsubmitted drafts for CSD
[edit]Hi John, I've noticed a bunch of your CSD tags on draft articles - there's really no need to tag these most of the time, especially not for things like "test edit". If you put a CSD tag on them, you're asking an admin to come around and look at this one specifically kind of urgently. If you just leave it, Liz or Explicit or josh or whoever will just come by in six months and sweep it into a bin. Saves everyone some energy to just ignore them. -- asilvering (talk) 17:32, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi, Johnj1995! You recently nominated Draft:Chauhan sept of Rajput-Sikh lineage for speedy deletion because the page was created by a known sock puppet. In this case, the article was created by IP 180.229.33.160, and you linked to the SPI for Truthfindervert. However, I'm not seeing this IP address listed as one of the suspected or confirmed sock puppets. Can you provide more information as to why you connected this IP address to Truthfindervert? Thank you! Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:19, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Quick question - CSD on talkpage
[edit]Hi Johnj1995 - quick question because I'm inexperienced with page moves and deletions - I just moved Commend International to draftspace and inadvertently created a redirect from mainspace to draftspace - which you've put a CSD notice on, which makes sense. I just wanted to ask if the talk page (which is now a redirect to Draft talk) needs to get CSD'd as well, or if that just gets taken care of automatically due to the main redirect getting CSD'd. Sorry if this is a stupid question - I don't normally work on this kind of stuff BugGhost🦗👻 16:16, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Literally the minute I sent this message, both the article and the talk page got deleted - so I guess that answers my question! Thanks, and sorry for the bother! BugGhost🦗👻 16:18, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

CSDs for promotional edits
[edit]I declined three CSDs you requested in draft articles for promotional only articles. All three had only an infobox, which was not inherently promotional. They may be non-notable, but there's no reason right now to delete them as they're drafts. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 20:29, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
