Response to History of Breakfast

Hi Jeremy, thanks so much for reaching out!!! I'm actually having some trouble finding information for Non-European 'Middle History' Periods. It seems that most of the information on breakfast in the Middle Ages focuses on Europe, but I'm trying to dig up some more information at our university library. Any tips?Jpac731 —Preceding undated comment added 19:32, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jeremy! It was SO nice to hear from you! As a Junior at Cornell, this whole Wikipedia editing project is completely new to me. I see that you have been awarded for a whole slew of things, so your help would be MUCH appreciated, as you said you would like to do. We are doing a class project on Bread With your interest in Food and Drink (as stated in your WikiProject), I feel like you have a lot of expertise in this field. Has the gluten free craze affected the food and drink industry in a negative way? We are doing a segment on the decline of the bread culture in France, and wondering if this is related to the gluten free phenomenon (another segment we are including). I would love to collaborate more with you! I also noticed that you are going back to school so your time spent on Wikipedia will be reduced, but any spare time you have would be much appreciated. Congrats on going back, though! Talk soon, Bthuglas (talk) 18:47, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Hey Jeremy. I'm working with Bthuglas. Would it be wise to post on the Food and Drink talk page about the changes we are making so that we can get more users to discuss the article? Atl48 (talk) 05:38, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

History of Burger King GAN on the horizon?

Amazing work with the Burger King article series. Any chance you might be nominating the history article in the next little while? It looks ready, during a cursory glance. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:44, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

I thank you for the compliment! The History of BK article has a big blank in the middle of it from the mid 1980s the to mid 1990s. I will get around to kicking it to good article status, it is in pretty good shape as it stands now. I am slowly working on the Burger King franchises article then will move on to the Burger King advertising article. After that, it is on to the List of Burger King ad programs and List of countries with Burger King franchises to bring them to featured list status. The goal is to get them all to being a good topic, then the whole thing starts over to get them to featured topic status. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 05:56, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Interesting. I guess I do see spans of years missed "re-glancing" at it, but I don't think it would have screamed out as such if you hadn't told me. Exciting to know that there is more, though. Yes, I saw your good topic box somewhere around when I was reviewing all of the work you've been doing. Best of luck! -- Zanimum (talk) 19:06, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Regarding your revert of my edit, I was wondering why you undid the change. As I understand it, 30em is the preferable setting for reflists as it accommodates browsers that can't handle three columns. However, I must apologize for this edit summary, which is unnecessarily rude. I've been a little edgy here of late due to some other problems, but taking it out on you was uncalled for. Nice to meet you, first of all I would like to say good job for serving Wikipedia for more than 6 years. I can respect you as a senior. However, there is something I would like to discuss about first regarding the subject. I found out that within your edit summary after mine, you stated "Spam". Can you define your meaning and then explain my wrong-doings? Thank you.--Bumblezellio (talk) 19:42, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

The addition you made was overly promotional in tone and sole source was from the company that developed the app. Additionally, this sort of application is colloquially called "A dime a dozen" - that is there is nothing special about the product, as most restaurant chains now employ them regularly. The addition employed what we on WP as peacock terms and other problematic wording that indicated it was not encyclopedic in nature but an advertisement for the company that created it. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 20:37, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Now that you mention it, the paragraph that I written seems to carry too much weight as an advertisement and I have unintentionally ignore its neutrality. Would you allow me to rewrite the paragraph in a more encyclopedic tone rather than removing it if possible? Also, regarding the app, it seems unlikely as a "dime in a dozen" as it identifies that Domino's Japan is involved in the music industry. The songs in the app are originally composed by the young staffs of Domino's Japan. So if I do see any shop, restaurant, retail or etc. use something as innovative as the app for promotion, then I wouldn't be surprised. In short, I will rewrite the paragraph and I just want to state that this app is not too unnoticeable within the world's view. Thank you for your reply.--Bumblezellio (talk) 14:44, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Typo on your user page

Hi there, I happened upon a typo on your user page I thought you'd want to fix. I was going to do it myself as a friendly gesture, but your template threatened to report me with attempted vandalism so...I'll let you take care of this:

Your big red banner reads: "...I am checking up daily, but cannot devote allot of time to it." It should read: "I am checking up daily, but cannot devote a lot of time to it." The word "allot" is a verb. You want "a lot" which is a quantity. Christine Bush in Mountain View, CA 20:58, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Portal:Coffee

I cant answer "why" as i didnt create the portal, i just fixed it from a completely useless state. I agree its related to the drink portal, I dont even know if they want to link to this portal. I just want interested people to know it exists (its been around for a year or so, but was not linked anywhere of importance)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:33, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey, these pages are NOT duplicates of Portal:Drink, the portal is specifically for coffee. we have portals for Los Angeles, a subset of California. We CAN have a portal for Coffee. if you feel this is a moribund or inherently useless portal, you can take the pages to WP:Miscellany for deletion. I didnt create this portal, just rescued it.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:43, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
I get what you just said about this portal being not previously discussed. I figure thats a no no. it was an SPA, as the original text included mention of the wikiproject on coffee being a consortium of coffee businesspeople. If portals need just as much vetting as projects, i understand the reasoning. however, arent portals a little less strict in their creation? anyway, i recognize what you are doing as good faith, and i sort of feel bad that i just did about an hours worth of work fixing it up, only to see it speedily deleted, based on MY assuming good faith in the portals creation. sigh.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:51, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed between 12-14 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the initial messages I sent out went to only WikiProject members and users that had over 15 reviews).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. Now, one of the most important criteria is that you have at least 15 independent reviews. If you are reading this, you are likely 3 (or less) reviews short, so if you review another couple nominations, you can become a recruiter! If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".

NOTE: If you are interested in becoming a recruiter but do not meet the 15 review requirement, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters and put your status as "Not Available" until you have reviewed enough nominations.

  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Wikiproject Food and Drink Newsletter - September 2013

Drastic changes

The changes you made to WP Food and Drink are quite drastic, orphaned some links in the newsletter I took the time to compose and send to 97 members, and rendered the newsletter obsolete before most people have had time to view it. Can we please hold off on a mass unilateral page change, to 1) allow time for people to utilize the newsletter, and 2) discuss changes per BRD. I would really appreciate it. Otherwise, all of the work I put into the newsletter and notifying members is going to waste. The newsletter is based upon the current page layout, rather than the revision you posted. I'm not against change, just so you know. I've also posted at the project's talk page. Northamerica1000(talk) 08:48, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

  1. Passive-aggressive behavior, read up on it.
  2. The change is part of an RfC on a possible idea, not a unilateral redo of the front page. If you would read my posts instead of reverting everything I do you would know that.
  3. As you know, I have filed a 3R report on you. This behavior is unacceptable. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 11:48, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
  1. WP:BRD, please read up on it.
  2. Use the sandbox pages to formulate and the talk page to propose ideas, rather than entirely changing the project's main page and removing most of its content. This was unfair to the majority of users who utilize the page (check views)
  3. Another editor at your post at WP:ANEW has agreed with my reversions of your layout changes, stating (in part), "Jerem43 The layout doesn't need changing, If it did you'd first seek consensus!, Northamerica1000 was indeed correct to revert your actions."

Good effort on the work, but that still doesn't lessen the fact that your behavior is less than stellar. You could have done this from the start instead of acting in a less than appropriate manner. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 11:45, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
I'm not psychic, please state ideas first on the project's talk page and use sandboxes, rather than your repeated drastic changes to the project's main page without first obtaining consensus to do so. Let's move forward from here, and await other's to respond, rather than your changing the main page's layout repeatedly. From a behavioral standpoint, your unilateral changes to the project's main page to the degree you performed is much more problematic than my reversions to them. Compromise and working together is the answer here. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:39, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

WP:FOOD Layouts and Commons sister project

Hi! I hope that you aren't upset, but I probably shook everything up over at the discussions on WP:FOOD. It took me over 12 hours to complete, but I have broken down the two front runner proposals into sub-components, made screen captures of each one, and enabled Project members to critique each component of layout individually and compare and contrast them with each other. I have tried to remove all ego (I know that's an impossible task) and any animosity or ruffled feathers that may have bubbled to the surface in past discussions. I have tried very hard to focus the discussion onto the much more productive goals of putting together all the elements that we like and eliminating the ones we don't, and coming up with a combination of the two ideas, while also allowing for other good ideas to be incorporated into the final result. I also set a tentative time frame to complete all of this. It may seem rather slow (especially in Wiki-time), but that will allow for plenty of input. Also, I'm a full-time caregiver and a part-time student this semester, and that allows me to stay involved without worrying about having to check in every half out to be sure that something didn't go thermonuclear while I was off dong school stuff. :-) I hope that you are not upset by my bold actions. I also hope that you realize that I am completely impartial in all of this, and I am trying to keep the discussion and actions that way, too. I just want to see the WikiProject end up with the best possible outcome from it. The new discussion page is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Food and drink/Main page layout discussion.

In the process of creating and uploading the screen captures, I also created a sister WikiProject over on Wikimedia Commons. It's called "WikiProject Food and Beverage" since "Beverages" are already well-established over there, and "Drinks" is not. I would really appreciate it if you would join in there, too. Actually, I already put your name down as a participant, since they require 4 participants initially to get a WikiProject started on Commons. I hope you don't mind me, once again, being bold in my actions.

If you are not very familiar with Commons, you should be aware that they do things a bit differently over there. First of all, it's a much more leisurely paced environment, but they still take policies seriously (some of them much more seriously than en.wiki does). There are very few WikiProjects, and there are a lot fewer editors over there. Instead of dealing with articles and pages, we work on media (photos, illustrations, audio, etc.) and maintain galleries (the equivalent of an article here). Categories are very similar, but tend to be organized a little differently. Finally, it's a very international and multilingual place. That makes things like templates and layouts even more complicated than here. On en.wiki, you might have one template for a header and another for the body of an infobox. On Commons, each of those templates may require a minimum of 4 templates just do do the same thing (meaning a total of 8 to display the header and body). It's quirky, but fun. At the very least, joining the Commons WikiProject should help you locate and organize images within WP:FOOD a little better and easier.

Thanks for considering my request and also for not getting upset by my (probably unexpected) interaction in your long-running discussions. Have a great day! —Willscrlt “Talk” ) 08:53, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Dunkin Donuts

Hi Jeremy, my group and I have begun to edit the Dunkin Donuts page for a university project. I noticed that you were a contributor. How was your experience? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onlinecommedits (talkcontribs) 01:04, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jeremy, my name is Brendan Sanok and I'm currently in the group for the project on Dunkin Donuts. It says in the talk page that the history of Dunkin Donuts needs editing, specifically to make it so that it's not biased or a "Corporate PR" mission. I'm wondering if you had any significant leads in the past in which I can find more information on this subject. They mentioned in the talk page that there were several controversies surrounding Dunkin Donuts, whether it be through e-coli scandal, coffee bean labor or their bankruptcy. I will be researching those aspects as well. Thanks for the help. BrendanSanok (talk) 02:50, 1 October 2013 (UTC)talk

Cornell French Toast Project

Hi Jeremy!

Thank you for reaching out to us, we appreciate the help! We are now beginning to edit this page, and noticed that a lot of the information previously on the French Toast page was cut, and we were curious as to why, so we do not make similar mistakes. If you have any advice on where we should begin that would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Hi Jeremy! It was SO nice to hear from you! As a Junior at Cornell, this whole Wikipedia editing project is completely new to me. I see that you have been awarded for a whole slew of things, so your help would be MUCH appreciated, as you said you would like to do. We are doing a class project on [[1]] With your interest in Food and Drink (as stated in your WikiProject), I feel like you have a lot of expertise in this field. Talk soon, Bthuglas (talk) 18:49, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Helping students in the Online Communities class

I saw your section on the Online Communities course page. Thank you so much for offering help, I am sure the students will be very appreciative. If you can go to the talk pages of the corresponding articles that they are working on and respond to the proposals they put together to work on the article, that would be very useful for them:

Ways to improve History of Breakfast

Hi Jeremy! Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia. So I am currently in a class that requires myself and my group members to improve a Wikipedia page. We have chosen to work on History of breakfast. On the talk page, we have listed some future plans we have to change the site. We would greatly appreciate it if you could provide us with some input about our plans, and what you think would be good changes to the page.

Thanks, Ksb93 (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm on a semi-wikibreak, so keeping this short. Regarding the changes to the newsletter, please feel free to apply those to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and Drink/Newsletter template page and Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and Drink/Newsletter October 2013 newsletter. I may update the October newsletter relatively soon, and then send them out, so feel free to apply the changes there first, if you have the time, initiative, etc. Thanks for the notification on my talk page about this matter. Wikiproject Food and Drink Newsletter - October 2013

Newsletters delivered today

Hello Jerem43: the F&D October 2013 newsletter was sent to all active members (except for the one that has opted out). Due to the formatting of the new newsletter page, it posted incorrectly on a few pages, due to the formatting on those respective pages. See:

Do you know of a quick fix regarding correcting the posts on the above pages? Input and assistance is appreciated. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 21:17, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

One more matter

Also, at Category:WikiProject Food and drink newsletters, recipients of the newsletter are listed, despite that I've temporarily removed the categories from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Newsletter October 2013 and Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Newsletters/template pages.

Despite the categories not being displayed on the user talk pages themselves (e.g. see below, where there are currently no cats listed on your talk page), recipients are still listed on the category page. Any ideas and action to fix this are appreciated. Northamerica1000(talk) 21:36, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

The hamburger image at Template:American cuisine

After this really exhausting discussion Template talk:American cuisine/Archive 1#Images in regional cuisine food templates: inclusion vs. exclusion you just waited a while and restored the image with this edit. I think that's very poor conduct. Please explain. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:32, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

BK Veggie

Just got sidetracked while reading BK grilled chicken sandwiches... a few years ago, Mills Business Group, Inc. (top franchiser for Canada, 2011, and I'm sure other years too) was celebrating the anniversary of its Queen St East location in Brampton. They ran a multi-page advertorial about the history of that particular location, in which the claim was made (if I remember correctly) that the BK Veggie was apparently first created by their location, a result of the high South Asian population in the area. A local food business was solisited to develop their patty, and this company later won the national contract for Canada. Would you like me to try and locate this section? -- Zanimum (talk) 21:38, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
