"Holidays"

Just want to check (probably better places for this but I'm pretty sure you know) am I right that Manila has basically been on "holiday" from Wednesday to Sunday because of Typhoon Sepat? Nil Einne 15:10, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, Manila and much of Luzon has been on holiday (schools and government offices) since Wednesday. Not to mention, Monday is a regular holiday, too. --Howard the Duck 15:11, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Nil Einne 15:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Chinese Taipei flag template

Hi Howard, why do you think the "ROC" variant is needed in Template:Country data Chinese Taipei? Now that you can add alternate links to Template:Country data Republic of China, there shouldn't be a need for the ROC flag in another template. Andrwsc 07:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

I just used it on 1954 FIBA World Championship... --Howard the Duck 07:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
I just saw that and changed it. You can use {{bk|ROC}} to get  Republic of China, and the wikilink points to the Chinese Taipei article automatically. Hope this helps! Andrwsc 07:26, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

hiya mr howard. I just want to say "Ang galing mo sir!" =D

you've worked on so many Philippine related articles! And Ive read most of them and I think they're great! anyway I just wanted to show my support for you by giving you a list of sites which could help you in writing your articles. =D IBON Foundation Inc. Id try to write an article myself but im still too busy with school. by the way I wonder if you know about WikiPilipinas I saw it on the news on television and checked it out. its just starting out so there arent many articles yet. maybe you can contribute there also if you like. =D

thats all. I hope I helped you in any way. more power to you! ingat po =D Matikas 0805 21:01, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Since WikiPilipinas has ads, I may only contribute there as heavily as here if I'm paid. Wikipedia is non-commercial and completely voluntary so it's all right (and in fact encouraged) if the contributors aren't paid. Otherwise, I'll just be duplicating my effort. --Howard the Duck 14:15, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Religion in the Philippines

Would you care to meet on the articles talk page and discuss the numbers? I've crunched them and come up with different percentages than you did. Pairadox 09:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I just followed what's on the press release. --Howard the Duck 09:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Then how did you arrive at a figure of 2% protestant when evangelicals alone make up 3%? Add in the other protestants, and you're looking at a minimum of 6% (assuming you count Aglipayan as a form of catholic). Pairadox 09:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm taking data from the table, BTW. Pairadox 09:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I'd suggest to group them as follows: Roman Catholics: 81%, local Christian churches (Aglipay+INC): 4.3%, Protestant and other Christians 4.2%, Muslims 5.1%, others 4.9. --Howard the Duck 09:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, christian won't work because catholics are considered christian. They are all local to the Philippines (one even has Phillipines in the name) so that distinction isn't clear either. "Protestant and other christians" is self redundant because protestants are considered christian. About the only thing we agree on so far is Muslims. Pairadox 09:47, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
It's a set and subset: for example, there are 8 varsity teams in a school; basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, track and field, and swimming. Basketball and football are grouped by themselves, other ballgames (volleyball and tennis) are grouped into one while "others" are grouped into "Others." Christians = (Roman Catholics + (local churches (INC+Aglipay) + Protestant and other Christians (Protestants + Evangelicals + others)) +Muslims. The World Almanac uses groupings such as this. --Howard the Duck 09:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Howard.

This is frnndzr. I understand blogs are not an accepted source. However, please note that the original input was also from the very blog that I had cited.

I was a member of Lance. I was there during the riot. I knew what had happened back in 1980-81 season.

All that I had pointed out was shown on television and splashed all over the newspapers, including the defunct Daily Express and other local dailies. However, to be fair, if my citing of said blog which happens to be greenarcher.net, why not remove it all together?

Sorry, I don't really know how to get in touch with you to clarify things better.

Sorry if I had caused you a headache. But we have a common interest- TRUTH.

Thanks for your patience and hope to hear from you soon.

If you were a member of the lance, then can you use your own report? I wonder if it still exists... that can the best reference, IMHO. --Howard the Duck 14:37, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again Howard,

Again these happened way back in 1981. I was the Distribution Manager way back then.

Am not sure we'll be able to get the back issues. As you may as well know by now, most of the newspapers that had brought up the story doesn't anymore exist since most were owned by Marcos and his cronies back then.

How I wish we could to clear this things out.

Again, please consider that the original inputs in Wikipedia came from greenarcher.net, same one I use to bring in the true story.

http://www.greenarcher.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-13510.html

If you feel that my inputs are unfair and unverified, then the original input is also in the same shoe. Most of the inputs regarding both UAAP and NCAA have quoted blogs too.

My interest is still the TRUTH, am sure it is your interest too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.127.192.118 (talk) 15:44, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I think that GA.net source was a featured article on their website - hence not on the web forums per se - so it can stay. If you can at least remember the news title and/or the issue, we can use that as a source. If you can contact people from LC and they can look up at the archives to check it out it'll be fine. 15:47, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Whew, that's a tall order but will try to look around. Of course, you know that greenarcher.net is handled by La Salle and it will only cite their side of the story no matter how "unfair" it is for the rival school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.127.192.118 (talk) 15:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I know. However, I don't know if the GA.net link is still "live" since it shut down and then came back, so the only way I can check out the neutrality of that source is via the wayback machine. With that said, the GA.net article was rather short, and Letran wasn't maligned. (BTW, add four tildes at the end of your post so I'd know who you are.) --Howard the Duck 15:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

You my try the link that I had provide earlier for GA.net

Letran wasn't maligned? It's a matter of opinion. For me, it was. The picture painted was we started the fight. We're rather "reactionary" at that point.

Clarification, not picking a fight. Am too old for that. frnndzr

BTW, I don't know how to identify myself using your system. Part of old age I guess-frnndzr —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.127.192.118 (talk) 16:04, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, certainly we'd need to find LC's side on that riot. It would be okay for me if you'd remove what could be the maligning statements. Until we find a source to balance GA.net, the maligning statements should remain hidden. Is that a fair compromise? As for identification, just add ~~~~ at the end of your post and it will automatically show your IP address. --Howard the Duck 16:09, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

That would be fine with me, Howard.

Am grateful. I just hope I can still look up those news even if it comes from a 3rd party. Cheez, they don't microfilm the old newspaper here like they do in the libraries in the US.

For starters had emailed the Alumni Office and seek their help. If not, will go to the National Library and photo copy the original news if needed.

Again, thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.127.192.118 (talk) 16:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Howard,

Just posted a "verbatim" news article about that riot. Source was Philippine Sunday Express August 17, 1980 Sports Sunday Page 9-La Salle Against Letran-Trouble-makers disrupt game By Virgilio Manuel Jr.

At least that article is not written by and for any one of the protagonist.

There are more articles about this which I will try to retrieve within this week. Hopefully, I can also find the picture of the actual mauling of the Letran student by the "goons" which was splashed all over some dailies during that time.

Let me know if you wish to get a photo-copy of the article. Will gladly send it to you.

Too bad, YOU TUBE doesn't exist that time.

Have a nice week end. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frnndzr (talkcontribs) 04:53, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Done! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frnndzr (talkcontribs) 05:41, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

BTW, thanks for your patience.

Ok, I'm working on it now. Please do not add <nowiki> at your posts since it screws up the page. Just add 4 tildes at the end. --Howard the Duck 05:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
As for the xerox copy, if you can scan it and post it imageshack then we can perhaps even post it here, if fair use permits. --Howard the Duck 06:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Can you at least rewrite the whole thing? Wikipedia can't publish newspaper articles verbatim. Just make sure it's neutral and add the article title, author, newspaper and page number at the end and I'll do the rest. --Howard the Duck 04:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
