Renewed semi McCaw

Another PG addition at Patrick McCaw almost as soon as the first semi ended. One week semi maybe? DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:26, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Semi-protect for Camila (album)

Can you semi-protect for the page to persistent block evasion by User:MariaJaydHicky. 183.171.114.110 (talk) 10:20, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

I took a quick look. It looks like a content dispute, so follow dispute resolution. Feel free to post a more detailed request at WP:RPP if I missed something. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 10:41, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

NBA - Lakers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Basketball_Association, you know finding sources for the Lakers dominance in the 1950s isn't hard to find, there's sources in the talk page article website — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Speller (talkcontribs) 19:37, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) WP:STICK. - BilCat (talk) 19:52, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
@The Speller: My comments from before at User_talk:Bagumba/Archive_18#NBA,_Lakers still stand. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 01:35, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

I think we should explore adding fields to Infobox basketball biography ...

... that adds coaching info and then just convert all basketball-only (from a coaching standpoint) coaches - assuming a consensus can be reached of course. There is too much inertia on college coach from the standards set by the CFB project to think about changing it IMO and frankly doing this would bring better consistency across basketball articles. The only real issue that some have had is that basketball biography doesn’t include things like coaching record, which could be added. Just a thought. Rikster2 (talk) 13:29, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Following existing player stats design where they are only displayed once their career ends, I would propose the same for coaching stats. That being said, there's only one objecter so far in that other thread, so let's see how it plays out.—Bagumba (talk) 14:33, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
@Rikster2: I've done a mockup. Take a look at two examples: Phil Jackson (Template:Infobox_basketball_biography/testcases#Retired_NBA_player_and_coach), who played and coached in NBA, and Jerry Tarkanian (Template:Infobox_basketball_biography/testcases#Retired_college_and_pro_coach), who didn't play but coached in college and NBA. If they played and coached in same league, I thought it's less kludgey to just have one section of stats (similar to baseball e.g. Bruce Bochy). Also, coaching stats will only appear once a coach retires. If you like, take a look at the wikitext to see if you have any feedback on the parameters.—Bagumba (talk) 10:11, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
@Rikster2: Also added example for John Thompson (Template:Infobox_basketball_biography/testcases#Retired_NBA_player_and_college_coach), former NBA player and college coach.—Bagumba (talk) 11:11, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Timeout for user

I think this user might need a timeout. They have had many warnings in the past and have now uploaded three dubious images. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

I'll give them some leeway, as they had not been explicitly warned about copyrightvios before. I placed Template:Welcome-image on their talk page.—Bagumba (talk) 05:29, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
1) do you want to delete File:Damian Jones.jpeg as well? 2) that user has now interfered with a commons file (see here). DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:42, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Blocked. I couldn't find the original for the Jones pic to speedy delete it, so will just let the normal deletion process play out.—Bagumba (talk) 10:14, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Over the last week, in the lead-up to the big game, this article has been subject to repeated efforts by IP users to insert inaccurate information and NPOV material. I would protect, but I am probably considered involved. Could you take a look and, if you agree, semi-protect for the next week to alleviate the problem? Cbl62 (talk) 00:19, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Done.—Bagumba (talk) 01:26, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

2018–19 Cairns Taipans season delete

Any chance 2018–19 Cairns Taipans season could be deleted? It was randomly created in August as a redirect to Cairns Taipans. An IP has just added the link to the infobox at Cairns Taipans and it now redirects back to itself. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:50, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Same goes for 2018–19 Sydney Kings season. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:51, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
It doesn't qualify for speedy delete, so you'd have to nominate them at WP:RFD. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 07:21, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Template:Milton Wildcats football coach navbox

Bagumba, your continued vote to delete on the discussion regarding Template:Milton Wildcats football coach navbox is working directly against long-standing cooperation and consensus at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football and related projects. Do you need List of Milton Wildcats head football coaches to be created to strike your delete? Jweiss11 (talk) 01:08, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

@Jweiss11: I'd be satisfied if WP:LISTN is demonstrated.—Bagumba (talk) 02:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
You are aware that we have hundreds of parallel navboxes for similar college football programs, correct? See: Category:American college football coach navigational boxes. And that we have many coach lists for sub-major football programs at Category:Lists of college football head coaches? Jweiss11 (talk) 02:27, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
I doubt I'll ever go on a campaign to nominate them. But someone bothered to open a TfD, so I !voted. I think they are fine for "major" programs where the respective lists can meet LISTN (whether or not an actual article exists). I don't agree that all programs merit one, but such is life in cookie-cutter WP.—Bagumba (talk) 04:01, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
As for the coaching lists, I agree that for minor programs they could probably be rolled back up into a main article for the program. But the navboxes should stay. They are a product of a decade of consensus and collaboration between multiple WikiProjects. An uninformed editor opened that TfD with an invalid rationale ("The school no longer exists"), and you have taken that opportunity to undermine broader consensus and collaboration with an inaptly rigid reading of the WP:NAVBOX. Wikipedia is cookie-cutter only the extent that we make it so. Jweiss11 (talk) 16:42, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Let's just agree to disagree on this one. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 22:59, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
That's one of my least favorite sayings. It's carries no meaning. It would be nice if you would take some responsibility for you own actions instead of shirking them and chalking them up to wiki-ether ("such is life"). My hope is that you can do better in the future. Happy editing. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:27, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – November 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2018).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
  • A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
  • The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. The results of this survey will determine what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year. Voting on the proposals will take place from November 16 to November 30, 2018. Specifically, there is a proposal category for admins and stewards that may be of interest.

Arbitration

  • Eligible editors will be invited to nominate themselves as candidates in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 4 until November 13. Voting will begin on November 19 and last until December 2.
  • The Arbitration Committee's email address has changed to arbcom-en@wikimedia.org. Other email lists, such as functionaries-en and clerks-l, remain unchanged.

Protect Tyson Chandler?

It will take a few days before what is being reported actually happens Rikster2 (talk) 22:17, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Done.—Bagumba (talk) 23:04, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

User timeout

Take a look at the user/IP on the Jahii Carson article. Can you please take care of this - changing height from current team, adding unsourced POB, changing DOB from sources, etc. Rikster2 (talk) 13:14, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

I erred on the side of WP:BLPKIND and WP:BLPSELF, and protected the page and directed the user to either WP:BLPN or have Carson contact oversight. Let me know if there are further issues.—Bagumba (talk) 14:52, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Omri Casspi semi

Could Omri Casspi please be semi'd. After Casspi received a championship ring, the page is getting the Anderson Varejão champion treatment. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:45, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Procedurally, can you put a note about past consensus on article talk page first? Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 13:00, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Done. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:15, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Ok, I'll watchlist it for a bit, but feel free to let me know if it happens again.—Bagumba (talk) 17:29, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Jimmy Butler

Can you protect Jimmy Butler, Dario Saric and Robert Covington? Maybe the roster templates too? Rikster2 (talk) 18:41, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Justin Patton and Jerryd Bayless too Rikster2 (talk) 20:20, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
OK. Butler was actually already protected, so bumped it up to extended.—Bagumba (talk) 01:11, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Reporting a cut-and-paste move

Hello. I see you posted on my IP’s talk page, so I’ll come to you first: I seem to notice a cut-and-paste page move was made at Garda Regional Support Unit. I’d revert the move, but I am using a mobile device running Desktop Wikipedia (personal preference of the user on this IP at the moment), and the small screen makes my experience a bit limiting. Thanks in advance. 66.87.148.231 (talk) 01:31, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Seems like someone already undid it and warned the user.—Bagumba (talk) 13:26, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Jalen Adams/Jaylen Adams

There is a actually a star player for UConn named “Jalen Adams.” It’s one I have considered creating, but haven’t and probably won’t soon. But the article will be created at some point (he may be an NBA player). I think the redirect to the NBA player is going to cause some confusion. Rikster2 (talk) 20:01, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

I get your point. However, in many ways this is like searching for someone who doesn't have an article and ending up at a page for a person with the same name and same profession. The difference here is that it's a misspelling. Nothing at WP:RFD#DELETE makes this an obvious delete. What do you propose be done?—Bagumba (talk) 03:23, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
I have it on my To Do list and at some point I will create it and overwrite the redirect (with hatnotes). My guess is someone will beat me to it and create some weird DAB to get around the redirect already in use. I’m not interested in shifting the UConn Adams up in my priority list right now, but he’s a pretty prominent college player Rikster2 (talk) 03:41, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Bagumba. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Repeat abbreviation

If one is going to repeat a link, shouldn't one also repeat the abbreviation? I could swear that's in MOS somewhere... Maybe I'm mistaken. Seems odd to present "NFL" as the linked text. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:34, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

@Muboshgu: Apologies, as I was borderline myself on starting a discussion vs the 2nd revert. It's how I've always undertood it and typically do in bios for NBA, NFL, MLB, etc. I'm open if guidelines are found to say otherwise.—Bagumba (talk) 15:40, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
No harm done. I can't recall if it's in guidelines anywhere or if I'm imagining it. And I'm about to board a plane so I'm not gonna dig too deep into it right now. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:43, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Redirects to other language Wikis

I am assuming that cases like Luke Evans (basketball) where a redirect is created to a non-English WP article (presumably because the subject isn’t notable) is frowned upon - at least it feels like it should be. Can we get the ones created by User:Ntsctalk mass deleted if so? These aren’t useful IMO and are misleading to readers. Rikster2 (talk) 12:34, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Discospinster seems to have deleted them already. While it follows my common sense, it could be argued that CSD R2 does not apply because an inter-language redirect is not the same as a cross-namespace redirect. FWIW an earlier proposal for a CSD R4 to handle interlanguage redirs did not pass. On the other hand, it seems bureaucratic to take this type to WP:RFD.—Bagumba (talk) 17:10, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

a few things

I appreciate you giving the offer to talk on your page. I hope you are stand up enough of a person to accept constructive criticism.

I would love to donate to you, but a few things.

you say you "humbly ask"

yet the guy who started wikipedia has a wiki page that is about as long as Elvis' humble? spare me, please

the other thing is that you refuse to acknowledge any kind of help that Max Gerson gave to the world thru nutrition. I wanted to put a quote from none other than Albert Schweitzer regarding him, he said "I see in him one of the most emminent geniuses in history of medicine. and you guys don't have the GUTS to put this in.

you make feeble excuses. I have been in the business a long time, I have seen what holistic can do.

your loved ones are dying because this truth is being suppressed.

and NO, I am not a crackpot, my friend. I have a masters degree in math, I do not do drugs, I am the city treasurer, I don't hit my wife, I dont get in fights, etc.

I would probably donate a few hundred dollars if things were different.

but not this time around.

PS- not looking for an argument. simply being forthright.

sincerely

Dubious user

Is this user vioalting WP:MISLEADNAME? They are even claiming to be Tiago Splitter at my talk page. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:48, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

It could be their WP:REALNAME too. I've asked them to prove their identity.—Bagumba (talk) 07:33, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

I'd say a sockpuppet is back adding info on Tiago Splitter, this time citing a reference that had nothing to do with the content being added i.e. a misleading citation. Perhaps a block for the new account and semi for the Tiago Splitter page? DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:41, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

They were told to create a new account if they weren't Splitter, so they are not technically a sock. I've warned the new account about WP:OR. It's premature at this point to protect page from the public because of actions of probably one user. Let's deal with the individual. Let me know if things don't progress.—Bagumba (talk) 03:03, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
  • A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
  • A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
  • A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.

Technical news

Miscellaneous

  • In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
  • Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.

There is an IP who insists on deleting the “American” from “Lithuanian / American.” I don’t pretend to be a citizenship expert, but the info is double sourced (the IP deletes these too) and Sabonis was born in Portland so he should have birthright citizenship in the US (I think). Interest in creating another UCLA article?

I realized there are only a total of 12 total redlinks for All-American articles in the 1950s (individual consensus teams). One, in 1959, is Walt Torrence of UCLA who was also on the 1963 FIBA World Cup team. Would you be interested in creating it? All players on individual AA teams (except honorable mention) from 1960 on are done. I’d like to finish these up, but would love a little help. Rikster2 (talk) 23:24, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Maybe. Let me see what's there.—Bagumba (talk) 05:11, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm mostly done, but might be a while before I get back to it and finalize and publish. Never knew back then that so many college players went to military after and then put on US national team. How times have changed.—Bagumba (talk) 03:47, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

Unreliable source on mckinnie

Everyone in the entire world, except for Wikipedia editors, knows that Alfonzo McKinnie was not discovered by a security guard. The cited article is totally unreliable. The entire fabrication is based on an indirect reference from a non-verified and unreliable tweet. Mnaiditch (talk) 04:18, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

@Mnaiditch: Thanks for the explanation. I haven't researched it beyond what was in the existing source. Perhaps you can consider just removing that part about the guard then (while leaving an edit summary). If you are going to write about "speculation" in the article, though, you will need to provide a citation for that. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 14:16, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Merry

Happy Christmas!
Hello Bagumba,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 08:01, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).

Guideline and policy news

  1. G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
  2. R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
  3. G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.

Technical news

  • Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
  1. At least 8 characters in length
  2. Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
  3. Different from their username
User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
  • Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
  • {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.

Arbitration

Miscellaneous

  • Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
  • Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

Done.—Bagumba (talk) 16:42, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
@Rikster2: On separate note, sometimes it's best to ignore claims of "consensus by one", and just use noticeboards if someone wants to go against the crowd and 3RR.—Bagumba (talk) 08:57, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Citing a program

Do you happen to know which template would be used to cite an event program? Ive been adding rosters to Final Four teams using Final Four programs, but am unsure what template to use. Many of the magazine or book parameters don’t apply, but these are certainly reliable sources. Thanks for your help. Rikster2 (talk) 15:15, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Try {{cite magazine}}. The important thing is to capture the key info to identify the source, whether or not it's technically a magazine.—Bagumba (talk) 00:46, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Bagumba. There is a constant edit war at this article and I was wondering if you could lock it into an indefinite protection? It's been locked and unlocked numerous times. The official score according to the NCAA is 258–141. A bunch of "truthers" out there think that some website's blog writer, who happened to watch a replay of the whole game and thinks it should be 253–141, keep changing it. Not only does that constitute WP:OR, but it goes against WP:V and WP:RS. Permanently locking the article from IP and newly-registered users' ability to edit seems to be the reasonable solution (to me, anyway), because once it unlocks, the edit-warring will begin again. 198.199.134.100 (talk) 18:22, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

I've semi-protected for 1 yr.—Bagumba (talk) 18:33, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

If you enjoyed creating Walt Torrence ...

... might I suggest Dick Linthicum? Two-time UCLA All-American (1931 and 1932) as well as an all-conference performer?  ;-) Rikster2 (talk) 19:57, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

Will keep it in mind.—Bagumba (talk) 13:39, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Block evasion

IP 82.14.210.218 is clearly IP 82.21.91.204, who is blocked. These are vandals on the Domantas Sabonis article. Sounds like block evasion. Rikster2 (talk) 20:46, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Probably. I had already protected Sabonis, and this is probably a single-purpose editor, so I didnt think of going to Whac-a-mole blocking mode yet with dynamic IP.—Bagumba (talk) 00:07, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
  • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

Technical news

  • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

Miscellaneous

  • Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
  • A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

An Interesting Question Relating to the Rising Stars Challenge and a Potential Trade on Display

Hey, I know this is just a talk going around purely on speculation alone, but considering that there's plenty of talks revolving around Anthony Davis and the potential link involving the Los Angeles Lakers offering both Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma (with talks from Ball's camp stating his interest is more in a team like the Phoenix Suns (a.k.a., a team with a lack of quality point guards right now) than the New Orleans Pelicans being in mind should a trade be confirmed), it does bring up an interesting question at hand that I think should be best left to you. Basically, in the event any trades revolving around a Rising Star or two come up during the trade deadline, should there be a note signifying a trade went down before the game began, but was previously on the team during the roster announcements? You know, something similar to the injured list of players from recent years there. I'm not 100% sure if such an occurrence ever happened beforehand during the very existence of the Rising Stars Challenge back in the 1990's (if there was, I clearly missed it somewhere), but it should be something that needs to be answered in the event something revolving around a rookie or sophomore player in the NBA gets caught up in a trade before the Rising Stars game begins for future reference. (I hope I wasn't rambling a whole lot on this one.) – AGreatPhoenixSunsFan (talk) 01:33, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Bagumba, can you also protect the Mike Scott (basketball) page? He is also involved in the multi-player Tobias Harris trade that was "reported" yesterday. Natg 19 (talk) 17:46, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

@Natg 19: Sorry, I only got to this now. Looks like the trade is completed. Thanks for the effort.—Bagumba (talk) 23:40, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Why won't you allow the FIBA Intercontinental Cup top scorer of finals award even in the article?

Is there a justification for this other than personal opinion? Also, it's not original research. Several sources, including official and independent and from large trusted media state the lead scorers of those games. No original research at all. And even the argument it isn't an award (it is) is not a justification to remove it from the article itself. That was used for your argument about a separate article. Statistics are allowed on sports articles, one way or the other. And if you won't agree to it being called an "award", then it should be called a "statistic".Bluesangrel (talk) 21:57, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

@Bluesangrel: I thought my edit summary was clear. If you have a specific question about it, please ask it. If you don't agree, that's your prerogative. However, arguing that it's my "personal opinion" isn't constructive. That would just be your "personal opinion" too. Finally, please see the guideline WP:ONUS. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 23:58, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Walt Torrence

On 7 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Walt Torrence, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Walt Torrence (pictured) was an All-American college basketball player for UCLA before joining the US Army and winning a gold medal at the Pan American Games? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Walt Torrence. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Walt Torrence), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Trade just reported, both teams playing right now and usually don’t anno7nce during a game Rikster2 (talk) 01:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Done.—Bagumba (talk) 01:13, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Well, I just added/reverted on Otto Porter: there's plenty of sources that say it's a done deal. I don't know about what's usual, but what I do know is there's a ton of reliable sources that state it as a fact. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 03:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
I'm not getting blocked for edit warring, so I will leave this to fellow basketball-based editors to back me up if they wish. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:12, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @Drmies: WP:RSBREAKING first and foremost. WP:SPORTSTRANS gets into the tricks or the trade sources (some not so reliable) employ. Comments are welcome, especially if you have specific sources you want to discuss. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 03:14, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Meh thanks, but it's not really worth my time: I'll go with what you know. Take it easy, and thanks for all the good work you do around here. Drmies (talk) 03:17, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
@Drmies: Likewise. FWIW, it's sad when even the Washington Post states this unconditionally without citing their source.[1]Bagumba (talk) 03:23, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Hmm I think it's sad if some mediocre team scores 142 points on you and there's still 4 minutes to go. But maybe the WaPo just knows this really well! Drmies (talk) 03:25, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Harrison Barnes and Justin Jackson also need protecting. There may be other people involved, but I’m going to bed. Rikster2 (talk) 04:04, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Got Randolph too.—Bagumba (talk) 04:24, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Clyde Drexler page

Why did you delete my revision to the Personal Life section of Clyde Drexler's page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robinohanlon (talkcontribs) 15:56, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

@Robinohanlon: Apologies if the edit summary that I had left was unclear. The sources that you cited are about Clyde Austin, the Harlem Globetrotter, and is not the same person as Clyde Austin Drexler, the former NBA player. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 17:05, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Tre Jones

Hello, can you please move Draft:Tre Jones to its own article. I am not allowed to do so, because the article was previously deleted for lack of notability, but administrators can. The subject is clearly notable now. Wisestork (talk) 22:26, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

@Wisestork: Can you try contacting the last deleting admin, Ivanvector? Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 12:07, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
Bagumba, this user was blocked as a sock but IMO Jones easily meets GNG and now I am concerned the AFC for this article will be declined because of it. Can I do anything to help get the article promoted? It’s well sourced and IMO Jones will win some major awards this year (May be front runner for national defensive player of the year). Rikster2 (talk) 01:44, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
You can review it: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation#How_to_get_involved.—Bagumba (talk) 02:36, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
The article name is protected, I can’t accept it from AFC Rikster2 (talk) 04:52, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
I went and accepted it. It needs categories added; I'm limited to mobile access right now and never really remember all the relevant cats.—Bagumba (talk) 08:30, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

Can’t undo it, seems ridiculous. Talk page seems to have disappeared Rikster2 (talk) 02:36, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Move's don't have undo's. You just have to do another move. I moved it back.—Bagumba (talk) 03:27, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't really have a lot of time to fight with it. Rikster2 (talk) 13:00, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Warning for user

Hey. Could you perhaps consider warning this user for personal attacks and/or directing statements towards me i.e. here and here. They also made an odd edit to Daniel Kickert with a dubious change then "reverted" as if it wasn't them. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 01:32, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Warned on PA, and redacted one of the edit summaries.—Bagumba (talk) 06:20, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Newspaper sources

They are, yes. I usually read the OCR transcript but I did not know it was possible to apply for a subscription through Wikipedia – thanks for the advice, I'll consider it. Thank you for improving the article about Richardson, too! --Triple 8~enwiki (talk) 17:24, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
