Le Tallec

Just out of interest what makes you think that Le Tallec is a midfielder? When he played for Sunderland or France U21s he played upfront as far as I'm aware. The only reason he's not really played as a striker for Liverpool is more because of competition than his natural position. He's a Bergkamp-type player in my eyes. Bergkamp isn't a midfielder. aLii 00:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

I think he's more withdrawn than Bergkamp, a bit like Jari Litmanen who is also often considered a midfielder. I think it's debatable whether he's a midfielder or a forward - and I guess I am going on his appearances for Liverpool - but I think the term 'striker' is a misnomer, he's far from an out-and-out striker. I think in CM terms he'd be a AM/F C. 10:54, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

LFC Squad

Heh, sorry about the edit conflict just now that resulted in my overwriting some of your edit; I noticed that you had to restore Medjani to the squad list, so just wanted to let you know that it wasn't an attempt to revert your edit, but rather a simple oversight! Seb Patrick 15:00, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I thought as much. He hasn't been the most memorable player... ArtVandelay13 15:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Taller banner

I noticed that you changed the banner to the bordered one with the edit summary (taller banner as standard). I never realised that the banner was actually taller - this is a fault with Internet Explorer that can be fixed by removing the text cellpadding="0" from the second line. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I think the smaller banner (as intended) looks much better, and if there's no objection, it should be the standard version.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   14:03, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't realise it was a mistake. To be honest, I prefer the taller banner, it stands out more. I guess we'll see what people think. ArtVandelay13 15:25, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Liverpool F.C. Reserves

The article on Liverpool F.C. Reserves has recently been nominated for deletion. I note that you have in the past contributed to the article, and was wondering whether you might participate in the debate over whether to keep it. I personally think that it is a useful place to keep information about the Reserve team which is notable in its own right, but may not be notable enough to include in the main Liverpool F.C. article without bloating it too much. I hope you'll find your way to supporting its continued existance. Cheers. Robotforaday 12:12, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Seasons

Fair enough, I see your point about table width. If I were you and I wanted to reduce width I would abbreviate the entries in the "Division" column (like Arsenal F.C. seasons) and drop the Charity Shield column entirely, as it is not as important a competition as the rest. Qwghlm 23:04, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Also, you could also put a forced break between the words "Average" and "attendance" in the column header, to make that column narrower. Qwghlm 23:06, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I think it is a great idea but it will be quite big for some lines (eg: central) so a reduce in font size might be helpful but otherwise - go for it. Unisouth 08:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

AfD Nomination: Dino Maamria

An editor has nominated the article Dino Maamria for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Noureddine Maamria. Add four tildes like this ~~~~ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Dino Maamria during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. Stephan Fürstner

  • If you don't need a full name, why is it there to begin with?
  • Why add his career details for FC Bayern II? I don't think stats from the reserve side meets the notable criteria.
  • If fussballdaten.de does the job a lot better why not use it as a source then for the stats?
  • We both know that the youth system for Bayern contains more then just a reserve side. Kingjeff 17:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Bayern Munich has children as young as 8 or 9 in their youth system. You might want to look at Bayern Munich Junior Team. Why remove fussballdaten.de? It was under external links. Not under references. They play in the Regional Third Division, which is a high level of senior football. Well, this is still not a career for Bayern Reserves. We both know that every member of the reserves wants to play for the 1st team. For players with a middle name. Are you saying he doesn't have a middle name? Kingjeff 18:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, seeing you are interested in football I invite you to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 17:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Márcio dos Santos Gaia

An editor has nominated Márcio dos Santos Gaia, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Márcio dos Santos Gaia and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Hey, I suddenly realised that you took care of some comments in the Liverpool F.C. peer review. In general I think this is ready for WP:FA nomination. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Paul Jones (footballer born 1986), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Paul Jones (footballer born 1986) fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Non-notable footballer

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Paul Jones (footballer born 1986), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:42, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Liverpool v. Arsenal "rivalry"

I agree with your reversion on {{Liverpool F.C.}} and have done the same myself on {{Arsenal F.C.}} - though the two clubs have often fought for the same trophies there is little rivalry in the sense of Arsenal's against Tottenham or Chelsea, or Liverpool's against Everton or Man United. The whole Liverpool and Arsenal Football Rivalry is a pile of uncited POV and the comment on Talk:Liverpool and Arsenal Football Rivalry suggests the article creator is oblivious to WP:OWN, so I would suggest nominating for deletion. Your thoughts on the matter would be welcome. Qwghlm 20:07, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for suggesting this redirect be deleted. However, if you could make this mistake, it's likely others could too, and a redirect hardly costs anything in terms of server resources, so I've decided against deleting it. Thanks again! Johnleemk | Talk 14:57, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on 2006 European Super Cup Finall, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because 2006 European Super Cup Finall fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Created as a typo

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting 2006 European Super Cup Finall, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate 2006 European Super Cup Finall itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:51, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

If you could make this typo, so could someone else; redirects are normally quite harmless, so it's best to leave them be. :) Johnleemk | Talk 19:36, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Player categorisation

The issue isn't whether he's a professional or not, though. The issue is whether he should be included in a category that explicitly states that it is for "footballers who have played for Manchester United", when he has not yet played for them. As Hargreaves has never played a game for United, but undoubtedly will in the near future, I have commented out the category until such time. - PeeJay 22:04, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I am paying attention, but if you would just look at the category and read the writing at the top, you will see that, as I said, it is for "footballers who have played for Manchester United". To use your example, if Ben Collett never played a game for United, which I don't think he did, then he should be removed from the category. - PeeJay 22:13, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, let's hark back to the discussion they had at WP:FOOTY. Take Dietmar Hamann for example. He was at Bolton for less than a day before changing his mind and deciding that he wanted to join Manchester City. Should he be categorised as a Bolton player? (Yes, I know he's in the Bolton Wanderers F.C. players category, but let's be hypothetical here) Personally, I don't think Hamann should be categorised as a Bolton player, a) because he never played a game for them; and b) because he was only there for a day and, effectively, never wanted to be there in the first place.
Another example is the Premier League players category. There, they are much more specific about their qualification criteria. They say that, for a player to be included, they must have "appeared in at least one first-team league game in the English Premier League, which commenced play in 1992". So while the category may say "Premier League players", not every player who was contracted to a Premier League club is included. - PeeJay 22:30, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Well look, I see your point. I do disagree with you, but since I don't doubt that Hargreaves will make his United debut on Wednesday, I won't argue if you uncomment the category now. - PeeJay 22:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Criticism of pokémon, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thanks for uploading Image:University of Exeter new logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. York players FLC

Thanks for your comments on the York City players FLC, which I have now dealt with. But, I was just wondering about your thinking behind loans and permament spells. If Jones' loan was, for example, made from 1996-1997, instead of 1997-1998, merging loan and permament years wouldn't work. This would be counted as two spells, wouldn't it? Russian National Unity Day

Hello there, ArtVandelay13. Just popping in to wish you a well-deserved happy Russian National Unity Day! Love, Yeanold Viskersenn 14:24, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TonyTheTiger (talkcontribs) 18:57, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Well I'm sorry if that tipped that balance, you will be a loss to the taskforce and the project as a whole. I have to agree that the new rules are pretty stupid, but unfortunately that is what I have to work with, and I didn't want to appear biased towards LFC articles, especially as I had been accused of marking non notable Liverpool articles as supported by the project. I intend to resurrect them as soon as they meet whatever the rules will be. :( John Hayestalk 23:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Thomas Kraft

A tag has been placed on Thomas Kraft requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Teslim Fatusi

In the Teslim Fatusi article, his stats include a 2001 stint at 1. FC Magdeburg. May I ask where you got that from? I can't for the life of me remember this player as having played for my club... Madcynic (talk) 14:59, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Thing is, at the end of 2000/01 season 1. FC Magdeburg almost went bust, was relegated and so on, I have my doubts as to whether they would even have tried to sign a guy like him, you know? Madcynic (talk) 16:26, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Crud, you're right, of course it was the following season. I'll take him out nevertheless. Don't have a subscription there either...African players are very hard to keep track of, unfortunately. Madcynic (talk) 18:31, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Mura

Hi! He is Éric Mura, a defender. I've created an article about him and add a link at 1991 European Cup Final. I'm pleased you can find the squad lists for this final. Keep up the good work!--Latouffedisco (talk) 09:56, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome, but it was easier than finding these squad lists. Thanks.--Latouffedisco (talk) 10:36, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
He is midfielder Régis Castant. He had an amazing career, beginning as a professional with Bordeaux, and then joined amateur team from nearby FC Libourne-Saint-Seurin a team that reached Ligue 2 in 2006 after years and years in lower leagues. He is still playing for the team, by the way. I will create an article about him soon, but some datas are hard to find on the web: I need to use some old magazines I have! By the way, if you can find the 1976 European Cup Final squads, it would be very interesting, as this match has a special significance for French football fans, like me! Best regards.--Latouffedisco (talk) 13:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I hope so, would be great! What you have found so far is already excellent. Keep up the good work!--Latouffedisco (talk) 13:23, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Arsenal FC squad

Hi there - you recently contributed to this thread at WT:WPF. Could you possibly spare the time to contribute the same thoughts to Talk:Arsenal F.C.? I'm having to deal with one particularly zealous user there who is calling me a vandal (while themselves deleting the discussion) and more reasoned and measured contributions to the discussion would be very much welcome. Thanks. Qwghlm (talk) 22:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheers. Consensus on WT:WPF is very much in support of UEFA and there are only a couple of dissenters on the page but they're driving me mad, particularly as it means some younger players aren't getting recognition they deserve. Alas WP:3RR means I can't revert them again today. Qwghlm (talk) 08:45, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
*sigh* Not going to intervene on that one. Not totally happy with the resulting compromise on Talk:Arsenal F.C. (only players who have been in first-team squads) but to argue any further would have been ridiculous, so it was worth it just to let the topic rest. Qwghlm (talk) 12:49, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Not to worry - when the Carling Cup gets going in a couple of weeks I imagine a lot of this will be moot - especially as some of the more established reserve players like Barazite, Nordtveit and Lansbury are or will be out on loan, there'll be quite a few new faces I imagine. The list will end up being pretty similar to the UEFA list, I'll bet. Qwghlm (talk) 13:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

PFA Premier and Football League Players Records (1946-2005)

Hey man, I noticed that you are listed as having a copy of "PFA Premier and Football League Players Records (1946-2005)". I'm trying to get hold of a copy for myself, but the only ones I can find are over £30! Would you say it's worth the money? – PeeJay 16:39, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Any chance you have the 1888-1939 version by Michael Joyce too? I'm considering getting both, just to fill out the football reference section of my bookshelf, but £60 is a lot to spend on two books. – PeeJay 21:38, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. Cheers for the tip on the 1946-2005 edition anyway. Now to save up some cash! – PeeJay 22:25, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I thought that Lee Hodges had transferred to AFC Hornchurch from Billericay Town? He is shown in their team sheet against Saffron Waldon on Saturday 13th September. Winston Smiff (talk) 13:20, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. As you seem to be a Liverpool fan, I wonder if you might be able to help me find some biographical data about your former right-half, Matt Busby. His article is WP:MUFC's collaboration of the month, so I'll be trying to expand it to FA status over the next few weeks. However, since most of my sources are about Man Utd, most of the info about the man himself focuses on his time as United manager. Any info you can provide would be most helpful. – PeeJay 22:32, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Like I say, there's not much in my Man Utd books about Busby's time at Man City or Liverpool, other than numbers of appearances and goals. Whatever you can give me will be great. – PeeJay 08:43, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Category:1. FC Nuremburg matches

German Football Champions

Hi I noticed you have changed a number of edits I made on the list, especially the lead. Personally I feel my version was better as it was probably reference and explained the topic better for people who do not understans the german league, please feel free to discuss this. I think you should nkow I intend to nominate this at FLC later, so I hope we can come to an agreement. NapHit (talk) 20:00, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm I disagree, information about the structure of the league ad how it works is necessary, It doesn't really matter what place the war is mentioned it s fine where it is. The split with East Germany doesn't need to be in great detail either. I felt your lead was not particularly great and would require a lot of copy editing at FL, also my lead is properly referenced as opposed to yours, anyway I'm going to nominate the list now, your help with the nomination would be appreciated. I also changed some back that you changed Hamburger SV are known as Hamburg here and 1. FC Nuremberg are known as Nurnberg but I'll settle for FC Nuremberg. NapHit (talk) 20:17, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Image problem

I posted this note in reply to your comments at PR, but I wanted to make sure you saw it. Don't give up on the photo, Image:Joachim Löw.JPG. I think it's probably OK and that only the licensing page needs fixing. I poked around this morning and found a User:FlorianK, who is probably the Florian K mentioned on the image description page as the author. I'd suggest posting a note to FlorianK to ask about this. If my hunch is correct, the problem can be fixed by replacing the dead link to Florian K with a live one to User:FlorianK. Finetooth (talk) 19:47, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there

As this FLC appears to have stagnated a bit, and the original nominator seems to have stopped addressing comments, I have decided to step in, and have rectified what I perceived to be all the outstanding queries. I was wondering if you would be prepared to drop by and re-appraise it....?

re:SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen

Please have a look at my explanation for the sort. The rule in general use is sorting by city/town/village name, not by team nick. What you've applied would set up SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen as an exception. The Dynamo's, Eintracht's, SC's, FC's, VfB's, etc. are not all lumped together, but the Frankfurt's, Feurth's, Munich's, etc. are. Thx. Wiggy! (talk) 20:57, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Francisco Manuel Durán

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Francisco Manuel Durán, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ATHLETE. Never played a professional game

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Intercontinental Cup

Hi. Thanks. Yes, it's quite difficult to find information about unused substitutes and I don't know if there's a complete database online. I made researches in internet, trying to compare as many sources as possible. Fans' website can give some detailed data (e.g. http://www.myjuve.it/stagione-1985-juventus/coppa_intercontinentale-juventus-argentinos_juniors-2-2-2617.aspx , http://www.juventus.altervista.org/1996int.htm). For the 1996 Final I had also a newspaper of the day after, but still I could not find the jersey number of the River Plate subs. Moreover, I found out the number of the substitutes in the 1985 Final by watching videos from youtube. WTer (talk) 11:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

The article Football Weekly has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Little or no outside references or citations. Lack of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.

The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Jaellee (talk) 22:20, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Johann Gajda

Hi ArtVandelay13! I requested speedy deletion of the Johann Gajda article because User:Jaellee and I both came to the conclusion that Gajda wouldn't pass WP:N, seeing as he never played football for a professional club and that the teams he managed were in the lower German leagues. I created the stub over two years ago, unaware of the criteria, but in spite of this, I can't see how the article can stay. Even at Olympiacos F.C. he wasn't head coach. Would you mind if I request speedy deletion again, or can you find some references for inclusion? I'd appreciate your views. Jared Preston (talk) 11:30, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply on my page. I do agree with the benefit of the doubt and it seems petty to delete the article for the sake of exclusionists, however, the infobox is wrong – at Olympiacos he was an assistant manager and at Hertha BSC he apparently only played for the 2nd or 3rd string team. Unfortunately, I don't think we can get around this. Jared Preston (talk) 14:31, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. It's good to see that my idea for navboxes for clubs' matches seems to be catching on! Do you think it's worth doing them for a few other clubs? – PeeJay 13:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

What's your reasoning for undoing my additions of categories for Alaba? He is Filipino AND Nigerian. He just represents Austria at international level and should retain categories of being a Filipino and Nigerian footballer. Banana Fingers (talk) 06:55, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

I replied on my talk page... just in case you didn't put it on your watch list...
Fair enough about the "Filipino expatriate" category, but he is Filipino therefore the "Filipino footballer" category should stand. It's not as if one of his grandparents or some far distant grandparent was Filipino, it's his mother that's a Filipina which makes him Filipino regardless of him being Austrian born and representing Austria. Club names

Hi there ART, VASCO here,

Regarding Simon Jentzsch: OK there, you gave absolutely no chance at all, reverting immediately, and offering an explanation i did not understand (adjective?). Don't worry, i will not edit there anymore...

My tactics were made clear i think in my summary, but i'll make another attempt in this message: i think club names should be compressed in box, written in full in storyline. I don't see the point of having "Vfl Wolfsburg" in box (only club in THE WORLD with that name, at least professionally) but OK, as i said, don't worry, i won't make any more edits in his page.

Keep up the good work (was only trying to help!), VASCO, Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:06, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

I think it should be the other way around. The infobox should have the full club name, with maybe only the city name in the text. What I think Vasco doesn't understand is that Karlsruher SC is a team from Karlsruhe, and that Karlsruher is the adjective of the city. Jared Preston (talk) 21:08, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Thomas Muller/Gerd Muller

I reverted your revision to exclude the assertion that Thomas Muller is Gerd Muller's namesake. The wikipedia page, and any dictionary definition of "namesake" clearly states that it's when a person, place, thing, etc is named out of regard for another. That would be the case with Muller if his first name was Gerd in honor of Gerd Muller. Cristiano Ronaldo for instance, is named out of regard for Ronald Reagan, so it would be factual to say that Ronald Reagan is Cristiano Ronaldo's namesake. It is not factual to say that Gerd Muller is Thomas Muller's namesake. Simply sharing the same family name is a coincidence, not a situation where Thomas was given the last name Muller out of regard for Gerd. 208.40.242.41 (talk) 01:10, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Retract my last, I'm reviewing the Oxford English Dictionary and am seeing that they define the term more broadly than we do on this side of the ocean. Regards. 01:12, 25 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.40.242.41 (talk)

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Günter Schröter. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

You asserted that it was Chelsea's sixth consecutive appearance in the Community Shield, but they didn't appear in the 2008 shield. – PeeJay 16:53, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

You forgot to add a copyright tag to File:DFL-Supercup-Logo.jpg that you uploaded recently. The source is no use at it does not link to any other copy of this image. The "purpose for use" is a necessary requirement for to justify the use of any non-free image. Please fix these issues. Thanks. ww2censor (talk) 13:15, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

?!?!!?

Hi there ART, VASCO from Portugal here,

What on earth was that reply on Festus Agu, to my anon address?!!?!? Maybe i was a bit hysterical, but "fuck off"? I am waiting for a sincere apology, rest assured, why those manners?

Now, for the technical approach: i told you "this is not German wiki" because you once told me that is the way German clubs are addressed to, but this in English wiki, first thing. Second, about WP:COMMONNAME: i feel infoboxes should be compressed to the maximum, giving the idea to the reader on where did the player play, the fullnames appear in storyline. Really, why should the box read "1. FC St. Pauli" when "St. Pauli" is more than enough to inform people, then the fullname in storyline should comply with the common name rule.

Your answer was one of the most rude i have ever received, if not the MOST without doing NOTHING before that merited it. I sure would like some explanation, if you think an apology is too much. Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 13:22, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

No way at all was this appropriate. I echo the above; please do not do such a thing again. NW (Talk) 19:14, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for uploading this, but could you please upload such freely-licenced images to Wikimedia Commons? It would mean people don't need to transfer them over to sort out categorisation.

Also, I was wondering, do you happen to know the number of that 87 in the picture? I was at Willesden about a week later and it was still there, but I couldn't work out the number.

Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:41, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey there. You undid a correction of my own mistake upon creation of the Michael Woythe article. After World War II, Germany wasn't officially reunited until 1990. You are quite right, the Berlin Wall wasn't erected until 1961, but anyone born post-1949 in the western Bezirke of Berlin, or western Germany, was technically born in West Germany. Have a look at the West Germany article, I'm not a great historian myself, but Germany as it is today has only been a unified state since 3 October 1990. Please let me know if you have a different point of view. Jared Preston (talk) 17:54, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

WPFOOTY discussion

Hi there ART, VASCO here,

regarding your latest entry at the "German club names" discussion, in which i am again "under fire", i have replied there. Please re-reply if you like.

Compression or no compression aside, please check my work in Thomas Ernst, i think it will quickly show you what my intentions are. I may be a bit hysterical sometimes, but that's it. I am here to improve the site and work in harmony with the other well-intended users, and i know i don't own WP nor any of its articles.

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:28, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Mehmet Ekici

WP:MOSBIO

Opening paragraph

The opening paragraph should have:

  1. Name(s) and title(s), if any (see, for instance, also Wikipedia:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility));
  2. Dates of birth and death, if known (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates of birth and death);
  3. Context (location, nationality, or ethnicity);
    1. In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen or national (according to each nationality law of the countries), or was a citizen when the person became notable.
    2. Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability.

I have added the emphasis on 3.2, which is what I meant to reference in the article, not 3.1. We went through the same thing at Mesut Özil‎. There were several strong Turkish nationals who imposed their will to have his third-generation Turkish heritage emphasized in the opening paragraph and several footy people voiced strong objection to it on the talk page. I can't see this happening at Mehmet Ekici until FIFA recognizes him as playing for Turkey. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:29, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello, ArtVandelay13. You have new messages at Walter Görlitz's talk page.

Ekici is a German national until he makes his appearance for Turkey senoir team or at least named to the game roster. Raul17 (talk) 23:01, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Please change your recent change. I am at WP:3RR and don't want to be blocked for breaking that. Your changed the lede to read "Mehmet Ekici (born 25 March 1990 in Turkish-Munich) is a German" when I think you meant to have it read "Mehmet Ekici (born 25 March 1990 in Munich) is a Turkish-German". I think it would be better as "Mehmet Ekici (born 25 March 1990 in Munich) is a German-born footballer of Turkish heritage" and the section on Turkish media claiming that he has elected to play at the national level for Turkey would tie-in with that. I also think it would be better left-out altogether since the reference (http://www.fcn.de/team/spieler/profil/ekici/) doesn't mention his Turkish heritage. I will mention it at the footy project if it is left in since it should be discussed.

I see that while I was writing this you made the change, but please consider my suggestion. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't understand your rationale for retaining those redlinks. Sure, some of those players might become notable IN THE FUTURE, but they're not notable yet. Removing the links not only removes the suggestion that they might be notable, but also helps to dissuade users from creating articles for said non-notable players. – PeeJay 10:01, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

You forget that it is possible to search through Wikipedia for articles that contain certain text strings. Hence, if a biographical article is created, its creator can search for instances where that person's name is mentioned in other articles and introduce a link there. Furthermore, many of the players mentioned in the FA Youth Cup Finals articles have long since given up on football as a career and would likely never be sufficiently notable to deserve an article. According to WP:RED, such links should be removed. – PeeJay 02:56, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
