Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Someone must have been lazy, as you have not been welcomed yet. Thank you for your contributions. Since you have been here for a while, we can pretty much assume you are not a troll, vandal, or clueless newbie. I hope you continue to like the place and don't get all grumpy and leave over nothing. Here are a few good links for newcomers, even though you aren't one:

I hope you still enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian, and won't get mad over something stupid and leave! By the way, please be sure to continue to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome, and sorry for your not being welcomed in the past! Thanks for uploading Image:Mmc1-con-wcache.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 16:38, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AMD Userboxes

[edit]

A friend of mine on Wikipedia, has suggested that we put all of the AMD Userboxes into one template and then let it's user, customize it to their needs, since you are the creator of the AMD XP userbox, ( I hope ! ) I would ask you if you wanted to be a part of this ? Don't worry if you don't want to do any of it, I shall take care of everything. Please respond as soon as possible ! Rugby471 17:28, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Silly question...=

[edit]

I'm looking for the phrase "This page intentionally left blank" translated into various languages, so as I stumble on native speakers of various languages, I will ask. It used to be common in manuals reflecting pages deleted by revision, or provison for more pages in a section in future. User:Alex Law/This page intentionally left blank. Cacofiend

[edit]

The article refered to is currently on Afd but has been previously speedied twice. Deletion edit summary is sometimes automatically in the edit summary box and sometimes a copy and paste part of the text into it. In this case the entire body of the text was included in as it stood. I assure you I didn't include that manually. Thanks.--Dakota ~ ° 14:47, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't either because deletion takes it all out. Think it may have been vandalized. Thanks--Dakota ~ ° 23:49, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. If you need any help let me know. Cheers.--Dakota ~ ° 00:00, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A revised version of the proposed policy against censorship is now open for voting. Will you kindly review the policy and make your opinions known? Thank you very much. Loom91 11:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why RfD?

[edit]

I have put a prod insert for the Chrome_programming_language that is a spam because it is a commercial compiler and not a language, and you suggest RfD. Why, please? I plan AfD instead! Spankman 14:30, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Research survey invitation

[edit]

Greetings Arny-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon — Preceding unsigned comment added by UOJComm (talkcontribs) 03:34, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I'm always glad to participate in surveys :) Arny (talk) 13:26, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HDD Regenerator?

[edit]

Hey, Arny.

I see that you added a HDD Regenerator to List of data recovery software but it has no corresponding article. May be you just misspelled it? Or did you know that red links are not allowed in list articles? (Red links are not allowed in categories and navboxes too.)

Anyway, thought you'd better know.

Piece. Fleet Command (talk) 10:34, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your notification, actually I didn't know the no-red-links rule. The name is correct though, the program just doesn't have an entry on Wikipedia; I thought of creating a stub article for it, but I wasn't sure it is notable enough for it... Perhaps it would be better to create an entry with the external link to the software (or no link at all). What do you think? Cheers, Arny (talk) 11:34, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't want to be a killjoy, so it's sort of hard to say it: Lists are meant to have Wikipedia article only. (They are an organized way of presenting them; compare with categories which are raw.) And I personally hate seeing external links in the standalone lists; it seems like a cheat to me. Sometimes I turn a blind eye, but someone else may not. And there are exceptions too, but not in this case.
However, if there is any consolation, there are many other wikis on the Internet. For instance, I have found a software development wiki which accepts (and specializes in accepting) a lot of things that I cannot contribute to Wikipedia. You may find a system administration or data recovery wiki which lists every single data recovery software item.
Since I love to have an option too, I will download this HDD Regenerator and will give it a whirl. If it managed to impress me, I'll write a blog post about it. Fleet Command (talk) 11:59, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's something similar to the SpinRite, but simpler with less (better said, no) options; I found it useful sometimes though, for somewhat (yet usually not much) improving quality of the rescued data from damaged drives (mostly when damage was limited to a few bad sectors)... Concerning the articles, I guess it might be best to leave the state of matter as it is :) Arny (talk) 12:27, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Acronis True Image, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Seagate (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Translator needed to identify a person's titles

[edit]

We're having trouble verifying the information on Hidajet Repovac in Semir_Osmanagić#Ph.D._thesis which was added here. The talk page discussion is here. The machine translations are unclear. You're listed as a translator at Wikipedia:Translators_available#Bosnian-to-English, so I was hoping you can help. Below is the source and Repovac's profile at his university:

I hope you might be able to help! --Ronz (talk) 21:50, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian help needed!

[edit]

Hello Arny, I'm contacting you because we need some Croatian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on hr.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Croatian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 23:01, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

[edit]

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Wikipedia:Translators available list.

Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:13, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unicode chart translation request

[edit]

Hello. I maintain multilingual Wikimedia charts showing roadmaps to the various planes of the Unicode Standard.
I'm hoping you will provide Croatian translations for me.
The specifics are at User:Drmccreedy/roadmap_multilingual.
The current Croatian page for Unicode has some of the colors translated in the article but I'd like to move it all the the legend of the charts.
Thank you for any help you can offer. DRMcCreedy (talk) 22:45, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Arny,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translation for page "Porto Montenegro"

[edit]
