Nandesuka's RfA

Thanks for supporting my RfA. I'll try my level best to live up to the faith you're showing in me. Nandesuka 00:56, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just a compliment

Just complimenting your work on the Zelda Link to the Past article, brang back memories. Do you play the newer Zeldas? I bought Wind Waker, but was pretty disgruntled about the graphical theme, cel-shading is too childish. I mean, aren't all Zelda fans supposed to be old and decrepit by now :P? I guess we'll never understand Nintendo's logic. I saw you advocate Open Source, what Linux distro/s do you use? I put Debian sarge on an old computer recently and it worked a dream. Thinking of putting it on this one too, since I attempted to upgrade to SP2 XP has begun crashing, as well as it being a total RAM hog. -- D-Katana

I thank you for your support in my successful RfA. I hope I can live up to the expectations of the community. I will surely look forward to you for suggestions, and I shall free to come to you to have the benefit of your experience. --Bhadani 10:50, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct: I goofed up

I saw your post at this diff, and you posted to a locked page, using your Admin privileges, so when I tried to reply, I found an unpleasant surprise: It as locked.

However, you were correct: I didn't know what a sysop was: I thought it was some really high position.

That being said, we all make mistakes, and my minor “vocabulary” gaffe (which is easily fixed with 1 minute + El Dictionary) -was minor compared to these serious revert wars, involving no less than seven Admins, on the Main Page no less!

So, when you and other extraterrestrials keep silent and pretend you can't speak Earth-language, we all know it is a double standard: Admins can do all kinds of things that would raise shouts of criticism from a "small, little" RfA applicant.

Is there a double standard --a major cause in editors quitting Wikipedia left and right?

If so, is not the right thing to do simply oppose it vocally? You can speak up.--GordonWatts 21:46, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From my page, you wrote:
As for those revert wars, they would not be grounds to deny someone adminship, nor are they very serious. Revert wars are discouraged but not outright banned. By bringing them up and claiming they show a double standard, you merely highlight your own insuitability for adminship.
What a sysop is can be discovered by merely reading the admin's reading list. Did you, in fact, read it? Andre (talk) 02:44, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
"By bringing them up and claiming they show a double standard, you merely highlight your own insuitability for adminship." I don't see how: I'm not saying that revert wars are right, and trying to make an excuse to make mistakes myself; I try to avoid revert wars unless absolutely necessary to ensure accuracy or quality for our readers. "What a sysop is can be discovered by merely reading the admin's reading list. Did you, in fact, read it?" Dude. Of course I did, but I didn't study it with the same scrutiny as one who is going to take a test, and you know why? In the past, I've prioritized and not wasted time on the petty details, and it has served me well as an editor, as a student, and in life, so why change now? Detail is good, but not for every little thing; I get the big picture: I try to use my current (and very powerful) editor tools to help out my community -with great success, I might add -even if I don't have as much time to devote to it as some. Is this not the same theme for an Admin?--GordonWatts 10:01, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • from my page:

Look, Gordon. I don't think you're a bad guy, but you clearly don't understand that adminship is a grant from the community. By arguing against the community's clear wishes, you are slowly but surely dooming your future chances. Nobody likes "rules-lawyering" about admin & bureaucrat nominations -- I learned this myself the hard way about a year ago. Andre (talk) 14:09, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there is some merit to "rules-lawyering" if it helps the next guy; All this will blow over. Oh, thanks for the cool red-border idea on your page; I borrowed the border idea for my page..--GordonWatts 14:15, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Ganon picture

I apologize about changing the name tag so suddenly. I just took slight offense, being it's fictional and all. Like, by saying King of Evil, wouldn't it probably say that he is the embodiment, when, obviously, he isn't. It doesn't matter though, you can ignore what I'm saying. I was just curious what your say was, etc. Sorry once again on changing without your immediate notice.

Esperanza made less bureaucratical

Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Please look at the amended charter, and I would love a comment. Redwolf24 (talk) 23:47, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The last time I'm spamming you all with Esperanza stuff

Hello Andrevan. As you may or may not know, there have been some troubles with Esperanza. So now, as a last ditch to save the community, please vote at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Reform on all neccisary polls. P.S. I'm very sorry for spamming you all with these messages, and this will be the last time. I recommend putting ESP on your watchlist. Cheers and please look at that, let's stop the civil war then. My RfA

Thanks for your support in my RfA. I'm glad you understood the "cry me a river" comment better than some seemed to. Though I guess I can see, without the explanation, how it could be seen as a bit harsh. Well, anyway, thanks. -R. fiend 18:35, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More palaver

Perhaps my meaning was somewhat misconstrued, by childish I meant the difficulty of the game, its lighter plot (compared to Ocarina) and general boss difficulty, as opposed to the art style/character rendering. But then, Zelda has always been light hearted...with the exception of Ocarina, so perhaps some pedantry was present in my point. The next Zelda; Twilight Princess, seems more inclined to Ocarina of Time and therefore perhaps possessing a heavier overtone and theme. It also borrows many concepts from Link to the Past. For instance, morphing into an animal upon entry to the Dark World, a wolf specifically. A good omen perhaps is that Nintendo delayed it till next March to add more content, a similar situation occurred back in 97/98' with Ocarina. That isn't to say that outright anticipation warrants further delays, however! :) -- D-Katana 23:54 23 September 2005 (UTC)

MedCom

Hello, you are one of the 7 remaining active medcom members. I have immensely decluttered the WP:RFM page. Now I would like to start assigning people to cases. If you do not have the time for this, please remove yourself from the active listings. I hope that we can become active again, and we won't need WP:TINMC to cover for us as they have. Please check RfM frequently as I may be assigning you. And of course you can always turn down cases and choose your own, its not some kind of the-leaders-make-you-do-what-they-say deal... anywho, just saying I'm trying to revive the medcom. Thanks, Redwolf24 (talk) 00:35, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of which, I am assigning you to a case. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation#.5B.5BUser:Researcher99.5D.5D_in_dispute_with_.5B.5BUser:Nereocystis.5D.5D_and_others. Thanks Andre :) Redwolf24 (talk) 00:54, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of Australians in International prisons

Dear Sir/Madam

My name is Kate Gibbons and I run an organisation Prisoners Overseas. We have been assisting the family of an Australian man imprisoned in Argentina. He is listed under List of Australian in International prisons. The websites we have listed by his name are www.stephensutton.com and www.prisonersoverseas.

The family have been extremely upset that somebody has been going in and entering incorrect information. When I checked this morning there was a personal attack on myself, from what appears to be a non-existent organisation. The information is incorrect and it could well damage this man's appeal which is in approx. 4 months. These are wanton attacks of vandalism. This is the latest message.

Stephen John Sutton, 40, arrested February 5, [[2003],(under appeal) http://www.stephensutton.com Update from OSE Prisoner Dispute Resulution U.K - The above mentioned website has not been set up with permission from the Stephen Sutton himself and he has requested that NONE of his personal information be made public. The domain www.stephensutton,com is registered to one Kate Gibbons who is not a family member and has no permission from Stephen himself to campaign on his behalf. Our organisation has attempted to contact Kate Gibbons however we have received no responce to our request to remove all information on Stephen - Information posted by Robert Frost from OSE Prisoners Dispute Services U.K. The OSE Prionser Dispute Services and Robert Frost do not exist.

We feel that this article needs to be frozen, so people are unable to edit. You can contact this man's family directly at ann@stephensutton.com www.stephensutton.com They can clarify in writing what Stephen has requested. This is a man's life and future. Is there anyway of tracing who is leaving the articles.

Regards Kate Gibbons

Interesting Ayyavazhi Family

Hai Andrevan, there are interesting articles about Ayyavazhi, a new religion on both mythology and religiosity. Wikipedia is rich with this topic in English, but poor in other languages. Since french is a leading language in Wikipedia it is better to translate the contents on this AYYAVAZHI family to french. - Paul Raj

My RfA!

My dear Andre, I simply wanted to drop by now that my RfA is closed to give you a big THANK YOU! for your kind support. It came at a very important time to me, when I felt I was being somewhat distrusted, and your confidence gave me strength. I hope that we continue to be in contact in the future, and you have in me a new friend. Hugs! Shauri Yes babe? 20:08, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

People, including me, have been searching from time to time about the baby mario game on the old nintendo system.

While looking at the mario entry nothing is said about it.

I really think more precise information should be added that explains the situation.

In this case, that the mario game on the nes wasn't actually a mario game but Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa. It took a lot of contacts and searching to actually clear that out since wikipedia wasn't mentionning it anywhere.
