United Airlines Flight 955

I've updated. LeadSongDog come howl 16:44, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

rubens charles article

Dude, I spent a long time on that article, too long for someone like you to just come along and just immediately request to delete it. No need to be so uptight. SuzukS (talkcontribs) 10:43, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

It's a blatant copyright violation from this website (biography section). So I doubt you worked too hard. APK coffee talk 10:43, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah but I still spent a lot of time restructuring the sentences and whatnot. I seriously don't see why you have to be so uptight about this. Looking at your page, you don't even appear to be a martial arts fan. Do you even know who Cobrinha is? What do you even have to gain by being so anal with all of this.. SuzukS (talkcontribs) 10:48, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
You just acknowledged that the content is a copyright violation. Wikipedia doesn't allow that. I'm not uptight and whether or not I'm a martial arts fan makes no difference. One doesn't have to "wax on, wax off" to follow this site's policies. G'day. APK coffee talk 10:51, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Muthukrishnan

Hi APK...Customer advocacy is a new phenomenon - which is not wide spread. I have stared this concept along with the concept of angels and advocates, a path breaking concept for managing customer base. this biography page is intented to be the first of the series which will inculcate the knowledge of customer advocacy. So, I started the series with me, the creator of this concept. I belive that therefore it should not be deleted - Muthukrishnan Capt muthukrishnan (talk) 10:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Please read our policy on creating autobiographical articles (it's a conflict of interest) The article also fails to show notability. I hope you don't take offense to the article being deleted. G'day. APK coffee talk 11:05, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Removed speedy deletion tag: Amy perez

Hi AgnosticPreachersKid! I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Amy perez- because: there is sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. decltype (talk) 11:30, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

The user created two articles (one with a capitalized 'p' in the last name; the second article is the one you are referring to). An administrator deleted one of them, hence the reason I left the tag on the second article. No worries though. If she's notable, she's notable. :-) G'day. APK coffee talk 11:41, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I moved it to the one with proper capitalization. You tagged here, but the creator added more afterwards. Oh, and for the record: I deleted Rubens Charles, which you correctly identified as a copyright violation. Regards, decltype (talk) 11:46, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. APK coffee talk 11:47, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Pictures

Hey, I noticed this diff:[1]. Could you take a look also at File:Zanthophylum americanum.jpg as well? (It was in the article, but for some reason the thumbnail wasn't working for me, and so I removed it when you posted the links to the other images. It would be nice for this to be at high resolution as well though. Maybe I can create a gallery or something to put these other images in the article.) LadyofShalott (talk) 04:15, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

It's no bother. Here it is. The article was named Custom blue, but I've moved it to the correct capitalization. That may have been the reason you had trouble locating the article. I think APK coffee talk 12:46, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

NRHP Page Name

Hi APK. I saw you added the seealso hatlink to National Register of Historic Places listings in the District of Columbia in the main Washington, D.C. article. Should this article name be changed to "National Register of Historic Place listings in Washington, D.C."? Note that the change would remove the seemingly unnecessary "s" and would bring the title in line with other articles about Washington, D.C. I thought I'd ask you because you're the NHRP guru! :-) Best always, -epicAdam(talk) 14:19, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey Adam. I prefer your suggestion, but there was a long discussion at WT:NRHP in regards to state/territory listings (a discussion I missed - darn end sarcasm). I also think 'Places listings' sounds odd, but the tribe has spoken. Replacing 'District of Columbia' with 'Washington, D.C.' might have a better shot. It might be a good idea to raise the question at Talk:National Register of Historic Places listings in the District of Columbia. If others disagree, then redirecting the hatlink title on Washington, D.C. (with the wording you suggested) would be the best option. Hope you're enjoying the holiday weekend!
P.S. I'll go ahead and change the hatlink title. It sticks out like a sore thumb. APK coffee talk 15:12, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Good stuff. I'll go ahead and bring it up for discussion. Looking at the issue further, I think the extra "s" is included because the official name of the registry is the "National Register of Historic Places", so Wikipedians are just using the official title, even though it seems strange in a title. Thanks for all your help! Happy Fourth! Best, epicAdam(talk) 15:29, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
On a related note, do you think Health in Washington, D.C. should be renamed "Healthcare in Washington, D.C."? (see Category:Healthcare by city of the United States) APK coffee talk 15:43, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, absolutely. I'll go ahead and make the change. -epicAdam(talk) 15:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

edit war

Thanks for reminding me. I did have it in the back of my head, but I thought they'd use the talk page to discuss. Clearly I was wrong. One article has already been protected to counter this, other related ones, however, haven't. I'd appreciate it if you have a look at my revisions, and the talk pages of the articles this has been going on with. Eik Corell (talk) 11:16, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

No problem. I was patrolling recent changes and noticed the situation. I'm not familiar with the subject, so my generic, but best suggestion is to reach a compromise on the talk page. If someone is adding questionable links, original research, or dubious claims, then it should be mentioned on the talk page (along with links to WP policies/guidlines to show why it's unacceptable; the other user may not be aware of those policies since he/she has only made 12 edits). You might want to try Wikipedia:Third opinion or Wikipedia:Dispute resolution if the situation continues. Cheers. APK coffee talk 11:50, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
It's actually an edit war that has spilled out over to other pages. The parties involved are me, and a band of forum members; apparently the game's community wants to keep the articles bloated, and as a result, a thread was made and now they're trying to shape the articles to their liking as opposed to Wikipedia's. The main parties involved on the other side of the argument are unresponsive and have flat-out stated that they don't care about the rules, and I've already involved one administrator, that is why the Starsiege:_Tribes article has been protected - When you're facing anonymous IPs and fans organized from the game's community, it seems best just to protect the page since they're unresponsive. To be honest, I can't keep the articles clean, I'm just one guy while they're lord knows how many scores of people. I don't want to edit war, but at the same time, these are people serving their own interests. Eik Corell (talk) 12:43, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your article updates. I'm watching, even if no one is talking :) I'm going to get busy with NC articles ... err ... sometime soon. - Dank (push to talk) 19:50, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. I've wondered if anyone watches the page. It's good to know someone does. :-) APK coffee talk 20:03, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

I need a third opinion

Fallen_Empire:_Legions has fallen victim to what I can only perceive as vandalism now. I have discussed the reasons for my edit on the talk-page, I have already summerize my reasons in the edit box, too. Basically, other editors want a seperate section for the fact that the movement system in the game is different from that of its predecessors, where I want to add this info to the gameplay section, too keep the article short. So, I need a third opinion. Eik Corell (talk) 07:15, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

It looks like someone semi-protected the article for two weeks. Hopefully that will improve the situation because you're clearly outnumbered. Wikipedia 1, SPA 0. APK coffee talk 21:33, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16

The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)

The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)

The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.

If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.

(You have received this posting because your user page indicates that you live in Maryland or DC. --EdwardsBot (talk) 04:10, 10 July 2009 (UTC))

No, if I click on the image from your link above, I see it, but I get a box with a red X in it on the article page. APK, needing serious help here..

Hi long time- I appreciate your assistance in uploading photos sometime back. Since then, I've used the Flickr Bryan uploading thing for hundreds of photos. However, on one page, both myself and User: Tvoz found it compelling to email (MY crappy Yahoo account: leah2saints@yahoo.com) and contact Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam's camp for multiple reasons, but two primary ones are the utter non-existance of any GFDL BY-CC-SA photos other than the couple I begged off people there already. (The other, is that a huge, huge website full of 1960s-70's interviews from magazines like Melody Maker and so forth that no longer exist but were once nearly as influential as Rolling Stone -photocopied in entirety- went down, with a lot of references for our GA- ranked article and it's crummy song and album pages on him.. they're working on bringing up the site..) Anyway, that's beside the point. The real question is this: if I can send you, email, postal mail some kind of mail the photos given to me in email from his publicists free and clear, with the email, I suppose (I live in Hyattsville, Maryland now.. heck, I could bring them to your door if needed)- or if you have any idea of how to go about all of this, we need to have the two photos uploaded into Wikimedia Commons and you are really the only one I can think of to ask right at this point. Aleta, last I asked was not knowledgeable in such matters, and most other Admins. tend to blow me off. What do you think? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:50, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Washington, D.C., and commas

In formal writing, commas usually come in pairs. See my style guide section User:Hlj/CWediting#Locations and follow it to the footnote #1, which has a reference to the Chicago Manual of Style. I think that it is likely you will frequently see singular commas in informal writing and magazines, but Chicago is the Bible for style and punctuation in serious writing such as academic papers, professional magazines, serious nonfiction books, and encyclopedias. Didja get my email? Pretty much I have maybe 6-10 wonderful photographers who will free up any photographs of stuff we need from their Flickr account. Sorry for saying GDFL, I was trying to quickly say images that are either "BY" or "BY-"CC" or "BY-"CC"-"SA" photos. When people with whom I have a good relationship with in that world don't have what a page here needs, I politely ask people there. For every single individual one. I am speaking now of going through all of that for like, hundreds of photos, you can see a bunch of them on my user page by name (the musicians' names whose pics I got and uploaded with the Flickr upload thing by Bryan, who no longer works with Commons and Wikipedia, so no wonder his Flickr to Commons uploader crashed for good. But I'm the type that can't even follow the instructions to set my alarm clock, so, now, I click, "It is another persons' work from Flickr after saving it to my computer, and after that, I have no clue what I am doing. Meanwhile, Cat Stevens' publicist mailed me two very needed photos and I don't know how to upload them. I'm obviously not a trusted user whatever that entails. So.. I need help! I know maybe 2 Admins counting Aleta who have ever really helped me, and my bi-Polar freaking out has probably come close to killing the other Admin by now. If I could upload a trout, I would beat EVERYBODY here with it, since I've been so frustrated over this BS! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 04:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you again for your support of the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Preliminary statistics indicate that 129 new articles were created, 203 other articles were improved, and 183 images were uploaded. Additionally, 41 articles were nominated for DYK, of which at least 2 have already been promoted. There are currently also 8 articles up for GA status and 3 up for FA/FL status. Though the campaign is technically over, please continue to update the log page at WP:NODRAMA/L with any articles which you worked during the campaign, and also to note any that receive commendation, such as DYK, GA or FA status. Did You Know question

Hello! Your submission of Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel (Washington, D.C.) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Art LaPella (talk) 03:28, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

So it was approved, but now not approved? Fun times. APK that's not my name 03:46, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Something like that. Even if a hook is on the Main Page, it can be removed if a serious problem is found. The green check approval process makes it easy to choose 7 good hooks for the next update. I let others choose those hooks, so if they agree with your verifiability argument (which strikes me as legalistic and missing the point of the rule), then they will promote the hook. Art LaPella (talk) 05:29, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
A WP policy is legalistic? Interesting. APK that's not my name 00:52, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Citing any rule in a way it wasn't intended is legalistic, but as I said, I'll leave the issue to others. Art LaPella (talk) 02:17, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
So you're basically calling my comment deceitful. The WP:V policy is referring to issues such as the one you mentioned. Citing the policy is in no way legalistic. It was an attempt to answer your rather open-ended question. APK that's not my name 02:23, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
WP:V is normally used to suppress an opinion that can't be cited. It is seldom used in reverse to report as fact an opinion that sounds so wrong it's almost a typo; ordinarily I would think we just wouldn't mention such a report. Suppose the National Academy of Sciences announced the world is flat; Wikipedia wouldn't report flatness as a fact, we would wonder what caused their lapse. But that disagreement is surely no reason to call you deceitful. I don't question your good faith at all. In fact, I'm not even sure you're wrong. Art LaPella (talk) 05:23, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
The Historic American Buildings Survey reported that the chapel is often called a "miniature Gothic gem". I don't understand why it's so hard to believe. It's not as if they're claiming something outrageous or highly disputed, like the earth being flat. I've removed the quotation marks at T:TDYK, but could change the wording to "has been described as a miniature Gothic gem" if that will put your mind at rest. APK that's not my name 05:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Sure, "has been described" sounds true; "has often been described" sounds impossible, unless it's a standard epithet like "the Big Apple" for New York City; otherwise, each commenter would describe the chapel in his own words. Either way, I am leaving the issue to others on the WT:DYK page. Art LaPella (talk) 20:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
That's swell. APK that's not my name 20:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I couldn't find a free photo. If you come across one, let me know so the fair use image can be deleted. APK that's not my name 11:55, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

File:Basilica of the National Shrine - exterior, east side.jpg

Hi, you have asked to delete File:Basilica of the National Shrine - exterior, east side.jpg because of a newly named commons replacement, however lots of articles are using the old name, so we need you to change them all to use the new name: File:Basilica of the National Shrine - exterior, east side.jpg so that there is no mess! Whoops!

Sorry about this edit: [3]. I clicked when I didn't yet have the pointer where I meant it to be. I've fixed it. LadyofShalott 15:37, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Whoops - sorry! I forgot to redo your line removal when I reverted. Apologies! Ravensfire2002 (talk) 22:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

No problemo. That makes two "whoops" in the same day (see above). ;-) APK that's not my name 22:22, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

UNCHerbarium

Doing research for the articles on the Duncans, I came across this interesting tidbit: "With approximately 10% of the UNC Herbarium's 750,000 specimens catalogued to date, we have found over 200 specimens collected by Wilbur Duncan...Duncan collected over 30,000 specimens, often in multiple sets, that he distributed to herbaria around the southeastern United States..."[4] LadyofShalott 02:09, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Something is wrong with this picture: French Wikipedia has an article aboutWilbur Duncan before we do, and Portugese WP even has a one-line stub before EnWp! LadyofShalott 02:27, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

For rizzle my Lizzle. I've never been to the North Carolina Botanical Garden (allergies suck). The next time I visit Raleighwood, I may hop on I-40 and check it out. APK that's not my name 10:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, do you think the photo on that page would be fair use for Wilbur Howard Duncan? LadyofShalott 18:13, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I think so, unless there's a free image somewhere. A quick Google search doesn't show any freely licensed images. APK that's not my name 20:58, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Cool beans, thanks! LadyofShalott 21:12, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you...

...OK, OK, I'm thinking of the puppies. Satisfied?

I may be a Republican, but I'm no puppy-murderer.

(I apologize for that joke...I promise you it's the closest I'll ever get to talking politics on Wikipedia. Until I run for president, that is...then it's every article for itself.) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 02:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Oooooo, a Republican in the D.C. metropolitan area. I heard they exist, but I've never seen one out in the wild. 8-p We can share our mutual disdain for Obama's socialist progressive agenda. (I was a member of this organization back in the day. Don't tell the other Wikipedians, though; and by others, I mean those who think He is wise and can do no wrong.) Gadzooks. this is what I did in Washington D.C. Not a Republican. (Sorry for butting in) Carptrash (talk) 14:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

No apology necessary. You'll probably dislike my next article. ;-) APK that's not my name 15:56, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Love the article. I've even added to it, in your sandbox. I'm a sculpture historian (non-professions) and like seeing this sort of thing. Carptrash (talk) 16:55, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

That's one advantage to living here; so many beautiful sculptures to admire (especially ones found in cemeteries). In case you haven't seen them already, dcmemorials and kittytours are great sites. (note to self: finish what's behind door #2) APK that's not my name 17:58, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Is User:RArt94 still spamming? There's a 99% chance it's the same user who I reported for spamming/user name violation. I'm hoping he/she can learn to contribute without adding the website to various articles. APK that's not my name 18:27, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I started a dialogue with User:RArt94 about what wikipedia was about and not about and I think that s/he got that edits that led back to (opinion) where s/he worked were very likely to be removed. He has not answered me yet. Meanwhile your poet statue Taras Shevchenko Memorial has got me interested. The artist Leo Mol studied at some Soviet school in Leningrad, then with Arno Breker . Do you know Arno? He was one of Adolph Hitler's favorite sculptors. That's quite a switch, from Stalin to Hitler. Then Mol studies in The Hague in 19943, which if I recall, was then under the Nazi's heel. Then he somehow gets to Canada. Quite a guy, or so it seems. Carptrash (talk) 14:07, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with Breker, but will head over to his article in just a few. In regards to Mol, that really is quite the switch. I noticed he passed away just a few weeks ago, but it appears he lived a full, interesting life. APK that's not my name 19:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

So the name Leo Mol has been bugging me for a couple of days now, nag, nag, nag, nag, so I finally went wandering through my famous (in a very small pond) collection of sculpture stuff and just discovered a booklet from the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Winnipeg. Have not looked at it yet but I going to predict that the biography section will move lightly and swiftly over the early years. Life. What a place to live. Gadzooks, I forgot you respond here. Yeah...I'm one of those people. If you want to see some of us in the wild, I can tell you where our watering holes are. By the way, I love the article on the Shevchenko memorial. Especially since I wrote the article on the building across the square... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:11, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
