Quick question

Hey Nish, just wondering how I can get a cool signature instead of typing ~~~~. I have seen how to change it in my account settings under My Preferances, but how do I get one that is multicolored, has links to everything, different sizes, etc. Thanks! Sharkface217 01:14, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in the preferences you add all the fonts, colors and links. Then, it posts your signature plus the date and time. Nishkid64 02:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David Ruben RfA

Nishkid64/Archive 14, thank you for your support in my RfA which passed on 13th December 2006 with a tally of 49/10/5. I am delighted by the result and a little daunted by the scope of the additional tools; I shall be cautious in my use of them. I am well aware that becoming an Admin is not just about a successful nomination, but a continuing process of gaining further experience; for this I shall welcome your feedback. Again, many thanks for supporting my RfA, feel free to contact me if you need any assistance. :-) David Ruben 01:37, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guess what

Yep I have reached the good old mark of 5,000 edits! Just thought I would let you know since you are such a good friend =). — SeadogTalk 01:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Philosophy Portal

Hi, Nishkid64. Now that we have another of the Browsebar portals up to featured status (Science), I was thinking we should just get all of them on the list! :-)Since you're the honcho for the Philosophy Portal, what do you think of adding it to the Current portal improvement collaborations list? With all of the talented volunteers out there, I'm sure we could get the Philosophy Portal up to snuff without much trouble. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 03:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA. I decided to end it; more time is needed, and I probably need a bit more experience. From here, I think I'll look at community discussion, AfD and the like. I will try to improve in the areas of concern, and thanks to everyone who supplied feedback. -- Selmo (talk) 06:31, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question, and Congrats

First off, congrats on reaching 5000 edits. That's something to be proud of.

Second, I can't seem to get anything to link to my talk page. It's really weird. Try it yourself User talk:Sharkface217 Nevermind.

Nishkid

Hi Nishkid,

First off, and sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but you were really a great admin coaching partner during our recent coaching of Exir. I was really glad to have you along for the trip, and if Exir ever returns, I'd love to continue coaching with you. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all your work. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 05:54, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Congrats on 5K! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 05:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for kind words. You were a great admin coach too, and you really helped me out with Exir. I now have two students, and I am using many of the things you did with Exir to help me coach those two. Anyway, best of luck in your future endeavors. By the way, I have 18k edits, not 5k. Seadog just got 5k lol, and Sharkface misread that. =) Nishkid64 18:00, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then, happy 18K! :) That's much bigger! Firsfron of Ronchester 18:50, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Review of Portal:Disasters

Hey, I saw you were also on the list of portal reviewers, and I would appreciate it if you could give me some input on Portal:Disasters at the portal's talk page. Thanks for any help! =) Nishkid64 22:24, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: BSN article

Hi... wanted your advice, if you have a sec... someone who seems to want to promote a sports drink company first got his new page speedy deleted, and now is trying to monopolize the BSN disambiguation page.It is clear he is not a typical vandal per se... it would seem his motivation for continual edits is promotion of this company... what to do?Thanks...Katalaveno 02:40, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After doing a bit of research, I feel that the BSN sports company is not really notable, and the current disambiguation page is appropriate. The next course of action would be to tell him why he shouldn't do what he's doing, and then if he continues, get an admin involved (such as myself). If he continues, warn him, and he will be blocked for disrupting without discussion. Nishkid64 20:52, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nishkid. I am attempting to do to you what I did to Crzrussian! Blnguyen(bananabucket) 05:19, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I might consider going to weak support, but for now I'm sticking with oppose. I know that I sometimes support people with low project activity, but I only do so when I see diversified edits to AfD's, AIV, RfA's, policies, etc. My main concern with Agathoclea is the lack of AfD participation, and for this I really can't support. Deletion of page Dr. Swami Manohar

Hi Nishkid64,

Why did you delete the article "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swami_Manohar" ?. It was a wonderful article. It is growing can you please justify ?

Thank you, Shaji —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shajiindia (talkcontribs) 08:34, 18 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Shajiindia! I first deleted your article nearly a month and half ago because it was an article on a non-notable subject. Back then, I researched Swami Manohar on Google, and saw that there was no real evidence that supported his notability and it appeared the subject failed WP:BIO criteria. I was looking through my deletion log, and saw this article had been recreated so I went to check it out. It's a good article, but there are notability guidelines, and unfortunately, I had to delete the article. If you still feel Swami Manohar deserves an article, I can restore the article and then we can go to WP:AFD and we can get a community consensus on whether or not the article should be kept. Thanks. My RfA

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which I have chosen to withdraw early at a final count of (10/8/3) as it was unlikely to gain consensus. Most users wanted me to be more experienced, so I shall continue to contribute and reapply sometime in the future.I am grateful for the kind words I was given, and will do my best to improve in the areas that were cited as my weaknesses. Please always feel free to help me along with a suggestion on how I could improve, and if you ever need help, I am ever at your service.Best as always, Dar-Ape 23:19, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Hello Nishkid. Quick reply as I'm on a rare weekend session on a PC. Normally, I look for sources, decent length (>3kb) in the main text, and I don't really get too strict with the "interesting" bit unless it is almost a tautology. I normally try to go from the oldest to give everyone a chance, but sometimes keep things on hold if there is a problem in the hope that it is fixed in time. In April when I first started, Gurubrahma and Lar were a lot more strict with the "interesting" aspect. If it got really packed, I went for stuff with inline refs as well...Blnguyen(bananabucket) 04:58, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please restore the article of Dr. Swami Manohar

Hi Nishkid,

Kindly restore the article of Dr. Swami Manohar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swami_Manohar). He certainly deserve one. We can discuss this on WP:AFD.

Make this stop

You seem like a good admin. Young, eccentric, with unique qualities. I need your help, this user Martinp23 is giving me bother and accusing me of things. I'm just a new user with a 3 day old account, with 150 contributions and he's saying he's going to block me for being a sockpuppet, but I'm not, can you tell him to leave me alone. Because actually I don't know what he's on about because I don't recall vandalising anything Nitro calibur 22:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just give it up, man. I talked with Martin about this, and we suspected that you are Sunderland. You made your account right after you got blocked on Sheogarath, and you just coincidentally wandered upon my user page and decided to ask me for help. Nishkid64 22:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, if that was the case the Ip would be blocked wouldn't it. I'm certainly not this Sunderland guy. Nitro calibur 22:21, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your community center changed their IP. It's a rotating IP, and we knew this was bound to happen. Besides, you made like a dozen accounts after being blocked each time. Obviously, you got around the IP block somehow. Nishkid64 22:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict]But as you said on wikiyouth, your IP has suddenly changed - as BT sometimes do (I'e had 8 IPs in the last month, and I'm on BT). Martinp23 22:24, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Nishkid, I'm not admitting to be any sockpuppet. This is my first and only account on wikipedia. I don't understand how or why this is happening because, but if you look at my contributions, you will see, that I' am no vandal or enemy of this amazing masterpiece of a site. I have helped it a lot. Stop this, I' am not this vandal. Nitro calibur 22:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the hell you skilled admins are on, because I haven't done anything, plus what the hell are you saying about a community center, if I'm blocked, I will have to email this site explaining everything. Nitro calibur 22:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I demand answers to the following questions.

-What is going on???

-What have I done wrong???

-Who is Molag bal???

-Why am I the target???

-What do you plan to do???

Nitro calibur 22:40, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You fail to acknowledge WP policies. :: Colin Keigher (Talk) 22:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please, let's resolve this, I' am a 27 year old student from the university of Durham. I got Wikipedia 4 days ago, not knowing anything about it, and then suddenly all this comes up, sockpuppets, banned users, blocks, I need you to think straight in your head, and relise, I'am a friend and contributor to this website. I have made nearlly 200 already, sure, I've made mistakes, and warned a user by accident, but I've welcomed new users, caught vandals, created articles, and expanded other ones, and this refers me to a banned user? I have vandalised at all in my contributions, I've been nice, got help from other users, and helped them. If a banned user has possibly done this. Then why are they banned, and what's the big idea about all this. I ask you nicely, to leave me alone, because I'm not a sock, and I respect the admins of this site greatly, as they make thousands of edits, and keep this site knitted together, if it wasn't for you and such other admins, Wikipedia would fall apart by vandals in less than a day. But my main point is, I don't exactly know what's going on. Nitro calibur 15:59, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nishkid - you may find this diff interesting, if not amusing. Martinp23 22:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And that diff has nothing to do with me, look, let's close this now. I'm not this user and you're wasting your time including mine. Nitro calibur 21:45, 19 December 2006 (UTC

Your monobook.js

Hello, Nishkid! You probably don't remember me, but I was wondering what does your monobbok code do?No offence intended, but I hate trying to read the script and find it easier to just ask. Also, if I have your permission and I if I wish to use it, may I "borrow" the code? Thanks and since I can't remember your talk page rules, coul you respondd on my talk page? Thanks a bunch! My monobook lets me use Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool and Voice of All's Admin scripts. It gives me a whole new toolbox to help me with editing and quick admin functions. I only think the Lupin's tool would only work for you, but go ahead and use it. Nishkid64 20:27, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed, but you can't do anything

Martin may have it confirmed that I' am the one and only Molag bal. But he can't block me, why? Because you must assume good faith, and as I haven't made any personal attacks or vandalismanything. Infact I've went and turned myself round. This is my only account, with 200 edits, of helping society, look at my contributions, see what help I've been to Wikipedia. Nitro calibur 22:09, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have to follow AGF - it's not a policy! However most of us do, and have done up until now with you.We don't have to wait for you to do something wrong, as based on your past record, we can block as you're circumventing an earlier block (is it a ban? Nishkid?) using a sock account.I'll also look into filing an abuse report with BT. Martinp23 22:25, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've blocked him Nishkid (just beating me to it, after I blocked you accidentally!)Sorry! Martinp23 22:31, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of sprotect on Automobile

Your refusal to listen to reason and once AGAIN un-protecting Automobile against the wishes of it's editors has made me very, very angry indeed.Today - just one day after unprotecting it - it was blanked by a vandal and remained blanked for 30 minutes. This is not acceptable for pivotal articles such as this one.

I am planning to take action by encouraging editors of articles such as Automobile to refuse to fix vandalism unless the necessary 'sprotection' is provided.

I consider it your sole responsibility to patrol that article and keep it looking good - it'll be a 24 hour task though so you'd better find some other "non-sprotect" enthusiasts to help you.I doubt many of it's regular editors will be working on it anymore. SteveBaker 01:51, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Watch your tone there. Get your facts straight before venting your anger on some innocent bystander. See [1]. Don't try to use tactics such as "we'll stop vandal-fighting". That's complete b.s. and you know it.
Btw, do you know how fast it takes for me to revert? Less than a second. I just need to press one button and it's reverted back. That easy. Nishkid64 02:12, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can really do here. The user hasn't violated 3RR, but he has been confrontational, but that still wouldn't justify a block. Try reasoning with him; I know he's rude, but just find some common ground to discuss on. Nishkid64 23:36, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any reason you've left Lar's nom from the 20th out of the next update? Looks Ok to me (or are you saving it because it has a pic?) Yomanganitalk 00:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was watching Lar's edits because I was going to ask him how he did the credits, and I happened to see the note he left on your talk page. I went to Next Update, and I saw Bakasuprman already added a DYK with a picture, so Lar's was left out. Also, see my edit summary at T:DYKT: "2 moved to Next Update. Next time, Lar. :-p". I saw you removed it afterwards, thinking that someone hadn't updated Next Update, and I was going to message you, but I thought you would understand what happened. Ehh...whatever, we'll get Lar in later today. Nishkid64 00:44, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I missed your edit summary. I just didn't want it getting left behind next time because it is a solid DYK, and as it is now the lone nom left on the 20th people might be wondering why it was left and leave it again. Still, we have a fairly sensible bunch working on DYK, so I shouldn't worry. Cheers, Yomanganitalk 00:51, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IIPM Edit Protect

Hi Nish, I had put up a request to unprotect the IIPM article yesterday. I could not find the request out there so am messaging you out here. It'll be nice if you can kindly tell me whether you can unprotect it. Or at least put my user id along with the ids of others who're allowed to edit. You could bounce of my name to Deepak Shenoy, Makrand who're editing the page since long and who's version is what you have accepted before edit protecting the page. The problem I'm facing is that I've been editing this page since more than one year, but unfortunately was not using a loginid. It's only three days back that I've created a login id. With respect to the overall request for unprotection; the fact is that the current editors have kept reverting my move that if there's a separate project created called "IIPM Controversy" then details of that should not be repeated in the project page called "IIPM". Only summaries of the IIPM Controversy page should be given in the IIPM page. It'll be nice if you can visit the IIPM page and also the IIPM Controversy page and realise the situation. I had personally requested for mediation; and for information, it was I who had requested Ganesh to protect the page from vandalism (you could directly check from him too). My apologies for writing so much, but my requests are just two (1) Kindly put my login id as one that is allowed to edit (you could check from Deepak and Makrand if you want) (2) Kindly revert the unprotect after you have yourself checked the details that so many details on the page IIPM Controversy are being repeated on the page called IIPM. I'll await your reply, regards. Mrinal Pandey 07:07, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there's no way I could have a "whitelist" for people who could edit the page. You told your account was just created and according to the semi-protection policy, your account will be allowed to edit the page in about 3 days time. I'm not involved in this matter, but I'll try talking to Ganesh to see if protection should be removed. If he doesn't agree, you can just wait 3 days until you will be allowed to edit the page. Nishkid, Thanks for the protect. As I am involved in the reverts, it would be wrong for me to protect the article or block any users. That was the reason for my protect request. Mrinal had requested me to block other IPs, but never asked for protection. So whatever he said was not true. He was the first one to blank the contraversies section. And the rest of the gang continued it. I can see a lot of new accounts on the IIPM talk page. I am going to create a sock check request soon. Deepak and myself are trying to make them understand the non-negotiable NPOV policy. These people are bent on removing criticism and contraversy sections. I would say the protection should stay for some more time to stop these people vandalising the article. Thanks for your help. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 19:28, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Ganesh for the message to Nishkid. You perhaps conveniently forget that I was the one reverting back to "your" versions (that is Deepak Shenoy's versions) when the vandals starting attacking. I have also read the issue of your personal award to Deepak Shenoy and your personal affiliations with supporting the IIPM Controversy section. I quote from the person whom you gave the barnstar award for adhering to NPOV and for keeping the IIPM controversy alive. When I told Deepak Shenoy that people should not be reverting illogically, guess what he told me... The following is quoted from the trancripts of Deepak Shenoy's discussions with me when he attempted to steamroll me into consenting throwing off your admin powers to me:
  • """Mrinal, Reverting is not a right only to existing editors of an article, it can be exercised by anyone. Let's all work on the assumption that we are mature people, and that anyone who wants to edit or change can do so. Do not put arbitrary restrictions - I don't even know if you are Mrinal or you are someone pretending to be Mrinal because you do not login here. Ganesh is a Wikipedia admin, by the way. Deepakshenoy 13:02, 21 December 2006 (UTC)"""
Ganesh, if you are an administrator, who is also editing pages at IIPM, I do not believe that you should allow users like Deepak Shenoy to show off his personal closeness to you and to literally frighten other editors into acceptance. Kindly give the correct view to Nishkid. I'll be highly grateful if you also advise me on whether I'm wrong in assuming what I have assumed.
