USCGC Edisto (WAGB-284)
[edit]Greetings and Welcome !
Thank you for your recent edit of USCGC Edisto (WAGB-284). There is a error where you replaced "There" with "It". There is a newer Edisto (not an icebreaker) currently in service which is named after the former Edisto. The sentence is a bit confusing I reckon, so I will change it a bit. My late father sailed in USCGC Northwind (WAGB-282) on expeditions with Edisto (the icebreaker) and had some shipmates in Edisto as well. Do you have a relative who sailed in Edisto ? If so, write more ! Thank you for your interest in, and efforts to preserve our U.S. Coast Guard history. Bravo Zulu and Semper Paratus Tjlynnjr (talk) 17:02, 29 August 2014 (UTC) .

Speedy deletion nomination of Mary Helen Clark
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mary Helen Clark requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. - You need to find, and add, material from published sources that describe her life and work.ShulMaven (talk) 03:09, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- I doubled the number of sources for the article that speak to her historical significance. Because of her position as a career missionary in Brazil, most of the sources are in Portuguese. Nikilada (talk) 15:09, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]Hallo Nikilada, I see that you some categories to Hossein Maleki.
Category:Living people was fine. The rest are all a bit problematic: there's actually a category Category:Iranian footballers, which is perfect for this man. Of those you added, Category:Iranians and Category:Soccer would have been useful if there wasn't anything more specific - though I think there's a "Fooian sportspeople" category for every country "Foo", for use where there isn't a "Fooian [players of sport X]" category. We don't need "Iran" as well as "Iranians", nor "Sports teams": he's a person, not a team.
There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia, but it's an interesting journey! Happy Editing.
(Incidentally, the message at the top of this talk page says "She is completely new to the world of Wikipedia editing", but at three months in you might want to modify that now? Glad you've stuck around!) PamD 15:31, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hey PamD! Thanks for the heads-up! And I took your advice and adjusted my level of "newness" to Wikipedia Nikilada (talk) 21:02, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi Nikilada, I'd like to make sure you don't place articles about albums into categories for musical groups. Most topics have well-defined category trees so perhaps if you take some time to learn those, you will do a better job at putting articles in their most appropriate categories. This will be a great benefit to the project because instead of two or more people adding and correcting categories to new articles, it will only take one. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Not a problem. I will be more careful in the future. Thanks for letting me know! Nikilada (talk) 02:25, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Not sure that you quite get it still. You categorized Ojas in both Category:India and Category:Festivals in India. Placing articles in such broad level categories is not beneficial or else there would be thousands of articles just in the India category which have no other real connection to one another. The "Festivals in India" is more appropriate because it puts together all articles about festivals in India together and because helpful for users interested in that topic find other similar articles. Avoid broad categorization unless there is no more specific category it can go in. I recommend doing further research into categorization schemes before blindly placing articles into categories that seem to make sense. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:32, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Questions waiting for a response at Talk:Mary Helen Clark
[edit]- There is still a question about some references you added. They look unreliable to me. Aren't they? Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:52, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
No, they are not unreliable. Nikilada (talk) 18:15, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Can you prove that they are reliable? What are Freewebs.com and Webpoa.com? Are they not blogs?Zigzig20s (talk) 19:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
No, not blogs-- just websites in Portuguese; Freewebs is simply a reference to the software used to create the page. Webpoa.com is the name of the site (stands for Web Porto Alegre). Nikilada (talk) 19:20, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- Who created those websites? Anybody can create a website; that does not make them reliable. (By the same token, self-published books are not reliable sources, if that makes it easier to understand).Zigzig20s (talk) 19:26, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Pictures
[edit]If you are on the Vanderbilt campus, there are quite a few pictures I could ask you to take which would greatly improve quite a few articles. You would have to upload them on Wikimedia Commons, which is a useful skill to learn as well if you don't already know. Let me know if you are interested in this work. It wouldn't take you long, and you wouldn't have to take them all at the same time.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:58, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sure…on one condition; you must use your Wikipedia powers from now on to beneficently aid this Wiki-newbie instead of knocking her around six ways from Sunday. Deal? :) Nikilada (talk) 18:24, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I only followed normal procedures of scrutiny, but the article is very likely to be re-suggested for AFD, as the first attempt was not conclusive. The reason I wanted to get votes is that if lots of editors had voted "keep", fine whatever. Right now it is in limbo. The trick is not to take article creations personally. I am still annoyed that my article on the Belle Meade Country Club was deleted as it is a very significant place for business, philanthropy and politics in Tennessee and the South as a whole, but I know it was not deleted for personal reasons; it was deleted because I was unable to find sufficient sources which showed why it was notable (most sources focused on their exclusionary practises). So it's really not personal. Will you take some pictures then?Zigzig20s (talk) 18:57, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
