DYK for Neerja

On 10 July 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Neerja, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the film Neerja is about Neerja Bhanot, who gave her life to help save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Neerja. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Neerja), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Copyright problem icon Your addition to CID Vs Adaalat – Karmyudh has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Further copyright violations will result in you being blocked from editing.Diannaa (talk) 19:03, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Response to warning above re: copyright, and also a note on cherrypicking reviews to suit a POV

Dude, Smart Lion, with regard to the warning left by Diannaa above, what is so difficult about the concept of "do not copy content from sources, then add them at Wikipedia"? You're not making the encyclopedia stronger, you're needlessly creating a copyright liability mess. Plot summaries and all other prose must be written from scratch, not copied or even closely paraphrased from other sources. Copying is theft. Cut it out already. Now I have to go through your other recent edits and remove copyrighted content, like here at Khaufnak Haveli, where you copied content presumably from the video description here.

Not to mention your assertion that an episode got "mixed to positive reviews from the viewers" is not adequately sourced. Whose voice are you quoting? Surely you don't think it's okay to decide in your own head that the response was X, then support that viewpoint with cherrypicked reviews, do you? In case you do, please stop that. Also, the phrase "mixed to ____" is widely shunned at Wikipedia, as it is derived from repeated instances of faulty synthesis between Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes ratings, typically in film articles. Some editors erroneously believe that if Metacritic says "mixed", and if Rotten Tomatoes indicates a positive score, that the summary should be "mixed to positive". That's nonsensical, but you didn't even make that mistake--you just pulled it out of thin air. Please don't do that. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:26, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Standalone notability for episodes

Re: your creation of various articles for CID episodes like Khaufnak Haveli and Dongara Ki Wapasi, I strongly encourage you to open a discussion at WikiProject Television to get input from the community on whether or not the articles you've created should be standalone articles. The reason why I suggest you open this discussion is so you can have people other than me tell you that like anything else at Wikipedia, only if a television episode is independently notable should it have a unique article on it. That would typically include groundbreaking episodes like "Edith's 50th Birthday", which was one of the first American television episodes to depict an attempted rape, or the Seinfeld episode "The Contest", which received significant critical acclaim and which has information about production, etc. These subjects naturally have received sufficient attention from reliable published sources, and would meet our general notability guideline. Articles that have no real-world context and that are basically just glorified plot summaries are targets for deletion. Again, given all the notes I'm giving you today, I strongly recommend you open the discussion at WT:TV. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

@Diannaa and Cyphoidbomb: OK, I will take care of the copyright material before adding it to the articles. And for making discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television before making articles on any special episodes of any Hindi TV series, I will do that. Mr. Smart ℒION☎️04:28, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
I want to clarify because your response sounds like you do not understand: please do not add copyrighted content to articles. Changing around a few words doesn't solve the problem. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:35, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:57, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

For about a week, a single-purpose IP (122.163.51.108) has been reverting and otherwise editing—not improving—the page without edit summaries; I've notified them, but can't roll back to the better version because a constructive edit by another user was made in between. Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

You will notice that I archived one of the article’s citations (#1). I suggest that you archive the rest of the article’s URLs as time allows. This ensures that the article's references are available "forever" and that it doesn’t develop “dead links” over time. The site I use is https://archive.org/web/. Simply copy the URL in the citation and paste it in the “Save Page Now” box on the archive.org site and click save. This creates a copy of the original page and provides you with a new URL to add to the original citation. If you look at the URL I've archived you'll see the syntax. You add the new URL to the end of the original citation like this: |archiveurl=http etc|archivedate=28 August 2016}}. Not all websites allow archiving - CBS TV news and the NY Times are two I've come across, so there's not much you can do about that unless there is an alternate citation you could use.

If I could also make a suggestion - the article would be clearer and more interesting if you included some examples of the people who appeared on the show and what they accomplished. There are several mentioned here:http://www.livemint.com/Opinion/RBbVSvDYsRphsxmKJBKhoL/Review--Aaj-Ki-Raat-Hai-Zindagi-has-its-heart-in-the-righ.html

Page mover granted

Hello, Mr. Smart LION. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, post here, or just let me know. Thank you, and happy editing! Widr (talk) 18:48, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Help

Hi Mr. LION, Thanks for replying my previous post. I've a question about the notability criteria. I'm not too sure about the consistent use of notability criteria and that's why I'm afraid to create a new page. Can you please help me answer the below question? There is a producer named "Manish Mundra, he has produced many successful films and the below IMDB link is the proof. Does he meet the notability criteria to create a page on Wiki? Is IMDB website is considered reliable and authentic? Thanks for your help.

@Albertan2014: Hello, the IMDb link that you have given is not of Manish Mundra. For creating articles about filmmakers, you should first read the guidelines given at WP:FILMMAKER. Mr. Smart ℒION☎️05:19, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Albertan2014: Looking the IMDb link of Manish Mundra, it seems that he is notable, so article on him can be created. But you should also make the article verifiable by adding reliable sources to it so that the article passes WP:N. Mr. Smart ℒION☎️05:07, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Mr. Smart LION, your creation of Naagin (season 2) in June 2016 was grossly premature and I'm a little confused by your thought process. Television series are not films. We don't create articles for second seasons as though they were film sequels. Only when there is sufficient content to justify a new television article be created should we do so. Nothing that was found in this version you created or this version four months later was so bulky that it could not have been easily incorporated into the main Naagin article.

Typically, television articles work like this:

  • We have a main article about a television series. Say, Naagin (TV series). This article presents an overview of the series, what it's about, who's in it, general ratings info, reception, etc. See SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • When a show is new, a list of episodes is built at the main page. Once that gets too large (i.e. if the series has begun a second season) then we might create a List of Episodes article. See List of SpongeBob SquarePants episodes.
      • Once that article gets too large, and if we have ample real-world content to warrant it, we might branch off into unique season-specific articles. See SpongeBob SquarePants (season 1). We typically transclude portions of the episode tables (minus episode summaries) to the List of Episodes article, to present an overview of the series' episodes.

What you did is not consistent with this normal structure. We had a main article at Naagin (TV series), then a Naagin (season 2) article, but we are missing everything in between. There simply isn't enough information to warrant the in-between articles anyway. By normal standards this should have gone:

[[Naagin (TV series)]]
Is there sufficient information (i.e. have we started a second season of episode tables) to warrant a List of Episodes article?
If no, do nothing.
If yes, create [[List of Naagin episodes]]
[[List of Naagin episodes]]
Is there sufficient information (i.e. 2 seasons of episode tables, comprehensive episode summaries, real-world information about casting, production, reception, etc.) to warrant individual episode articles?
If no, do nothing.
If yes, create [[Naagin (TV series) (season 1)]] and [[Naagin (TV series) (season 2)]]

I hope you please keep this in mind going forward, and if you have questions, asking experienced users is the best approach, rather than boldly creating new, but problematic, articles. The Naagin (season 2) article has been a nightmare because of sockpuppets and ignorant users who kept trying to force a prematurely created article into something that would never have met community muster. If you plan to edit television articles, please familiarize yourself with our Manual of Style for Television, because even Indian television articles have to adhere to it. Thank you. Hi!

Sorry I didn't add the reference on the edits I made. Actually I added "Navjot Singh Sidhu" as a judge and Comedy Nights with Kapil as related show, and these were also mentioned below on the article in Format section. Then I changed "SDTV" into "PAL", which I saw here, as it says, "Do not use SDTV as it is ambiguous." After that I added "International broadcast" section, in which I added its broadcast in Pakistan by ARY Zindagi,[1] and now the reference will be provided. But there is a problem of timings, I added 12:00am PST, but schedule has other timings. Actually in Pakistan, the show is premiered on Sunday and Monday at 12:00am PST, but the timings on schedule are of regular airing.

I think that the content should be re-added. Also I think that the name of show should be mentioned here. But if you would permit me, then I shall add.
