I'm going to be busy for a while, ended up trying to do a bit too much this go around. If there's something I forgot to follow up on you have my apologies. If I made a mistake feel free to revert it. If I reverted you it was probably because I assessed your edit reduced the quality of the article. However, I'm not perfect so if you want solicit opinions from others go ahead; if you're new you should probably do that at the teahouse. I'll be back eventually, maybe not under this IP, but that's the way of things. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 19:14, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Most definitely not, being unregistered is kind of my thing. Anyway I'm glad you found it helpful. I've tried to help preserve some institutional knowledge, and tidbits of long-forgotten lore, and WP:PAYITFORWARD where I can, even if my editing activity over the last decade has been rather spotty. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 22:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much also for your antivandal work, @184.152.68.190. Clearly your positive contributions have been spotted by other users already - you are a pleasure to have around on Wikipedia. Account or not, we hope (I hope) you'll be an editor here for many more months and years to come. What cooler username is there than an IP that's unique to you?! That Coptic Guyping me! (talk) (contribs) 01:42, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm really only just dropping by for a few days right now. I am hoping at some point I'll have time for this again in quantity, but I've been saying that for many years now so we'll see. And thanks for your help as well, always nice to have a good team for RCP around, and I'm glad you're helping out. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 01:51, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:54, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AlphaBetaGammsh: here's the thing, a lot of the time when it's a one off from someone who hasn't created an account the warning isn't really helpful. The majority do not edit again and the message sits in the void until removed by bot years later. Repeat vandalism changes the calculus, and at worse they get in one more edit before being blocked. That said there is a lot of nuance involved including time elapsed, severity, evidence of abuse on other IPs or accounts etc. As with everything else in RCP, discretion and judgement are needed. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 01:59, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Thanks for keeping my talk page clean

No clue what the hell happened, just got notifications about something requiring oversight and things have moved fast from there.

No doubt whatever it was, you and @ToBeFree had good reason to act.

So thanks for that. ConcurrentState (talk) 01:55, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, one of the tools I was using to catch things on talk pages that are often missed by standard filtering flagged it, and thanks to ToBeFree's prompt action it was zapped before I even had a chance to pull up IRC. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 02:01, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration/Requests

I drew attention to your talk page post, noting that you had since self-reverted. Then I blew right through the word limit, and have now said my piece for good or ill, I hope. Yngvadottir (talk) 08:54, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looked like the arbs were already starting to trend the right direction, whereas when I wrote that I was quite shocked to see their preliminary statements leaning decline and felt I had to do something. Perhaps the pathos will inspire them to take a really close look at all the evidence and provide a series of findings that the the community can accept even if some of the particulars are disagreed with, and most importantly simply ensure the community's confidence in the process. Though admittedly I don't have a tenth the edits on this IP etiquette would counsel for even limited involvement in that drama. As for the word limit, the arbs/clerks are usually fairly liberal with extensions so long as the length isn't too far over and the content is germane. You can always collapse what you feel are the least important parts even if they don't grant an extension or the granted extension is insufficient.
Hopefully that's all that's needed because I was really only planning on dropping in for a few days to help out in small ways here and there, mostly with RCP since that can be done while multi-tasking, and somehow I've found myself assisting with some of the heavy lifting, and not just the arb stuff. Always foolish with my schedule and yet I still feel some sort of strange duty. I think I really just need to wrap things up and go cold turkey until at least May.
It's nice to see you're still around improving things where you can and impelling others to action, be well. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 17:27, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and thank you for assisting with RCP. IP editing is kind of my thing though, AGFWWRUP and all that. I'm not really all that active these years anyway so for practical purposes it doesn't matter much anyway. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 17:37, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
