Hello, I saw that you had given a preliminary review of the article for GAN. I hope you don't mind me butting in, but I left further suggestions on the talk page. In short, I feel this article is not comprehensive enough in order to be promoted at this time, so I left various suggestions for expansion which should take a while to complete. However, since you are technically the reviewer, I'll leave it up for you to judge. There is a backlog for GA candidates, however, and this article has been sitting for two weeks now, so perhaps you'd like to make a decision sooner rather than later? If you need further help, just let me know. María (habla conmigo) 15:45, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply! I definitely believe there is a wiki-job for everyone, so don't be down on yourself. The more positive a reviewer is, the better they're liked, after all; I tend to be far too critical sometimes, which has got be in trouble before. :) The most important thing is that the article benefits from our suggestions, and you made an excellent start of it. I'm glad you agreed with my assessment, and hopefully this article will be ready for next time. Take care, María (habla conmigo) 16:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Unhappy, apparently

[edit]

Hey! Fuck you; you stupid prick. This is a shared IP and I don't need your queer recommendations on how to use the sandbox. I use Wikipedia frequently and in 5 years have never once vandalised a page until you can strolling along and forced me to defend my honour by saying, FUCK YOU ASSHOLE! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.35.171.197 (talk) 00:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Odd. I didn't force you to do anything. Actually, most people on a shared IP just ignore those messages, if they were misdirected. Try that next time. Joyous! | Talk 01:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi Joyous! I was passing through and saw the garbage above - interesting spelling for someone apparently in the Seattle area, don't you think? I do hope you feel the urge to lodge a formal complaint with QWEST. Accountability and all that. Hope the move went well and you're enjoying the new vista! AncientBrit (talk) 18:54, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I second that. You use the term faggot on your page but then go around acusing people of vandalism. Well you are a bigot and a hypocrit! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chadk77 (talkcontribs) 23:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry you're unhappy. I don't actually see where I've used the term anywhere on my userpage or talk page, though. Joyous! | Talk 00:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm not an admin (although I'm in coaching and shooting for a May RfA), or I would have done it myself - I jumped from a level 1 to 4 warning because of all the past activity. I probably could have even skipped the first, but WP:AGF blah blah. Tanthalas39 (talk) 23:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey. Try being a little more careful when reverting vandalism. While your revert here was technically right, you reverted the page to an attack state. Just pointing it out, since it probably would've been up there for some time had I not noticed it. Wizardman 22:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Upon looking for this band (Positive Chaos), I noticed that they had been deleted a few years ago by you. I came across them on the WCCC-FM page, and saw that they still don't have a page. I was wondering if someone could create a page about them, I'd be willing to do it, but I don't want to do it and then see it deleted.

Lynn of Tawa

[edit]

I've restored Lynn of Tawa to the List of fictional New Zealanders because she is rather well known (though mainly to New Zealanders who were adults in the 1970s), and she has an entry in the major New Zealand encyclopedia, Te Ara. I've added Te Ara as a source.

The list is marginal and might not survive an AfD; I split it from a very disorganised List of New Zealanders some time ago.-gadfium 20:16, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Bean musicals

[edit]

It looks very promotional to me. Many of the articles don't even make it clear where, or even if, these musicals have ever been produced. All the references are to Bean's own websites. If you AfD them, I'll vote to support. Let me know! -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:00, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Los Angeles Ovation Awards are legitimate awards given for theatre in Los Angeles (if he really got it), so I think that Wondrettes is OK if it checks out. If a play was produced by a blue-linked regional theatre company and got reviews from legitimate papers, then it is probably going to survive an AfD, especially if it received more than one such production. If not, then it should be AfD'd. However, these articles are extremely vaguely written: In each case, they should clearly state who wrote the book, lyrics and music; what previous material the work is based upon, if any; who directed and choreographed; when and where it was produced, and how long it ran; what major reviews it got, and what they said; what notable actors were in it. Obviously, all the promotional language must be deleted. Best regards! -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Newbery

[edit]

I have it down where I copy and paste such that it takes me between 30-45 seconds to create the main page and talk page for each article. I plan on doing them in batches by decade, with a break in betweeen them. I think I should be able to knock out all of the oldest books today. For some of the more recent ones I am likely going to try and create real pages which will no doubt slow me down. I noticed you added in a reference & category for the books and I will use that going forward. Thanks, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

(replied on your talk page) Joyous! | Talk 16:58, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

While doing my job as a new article patroller, I have noticed that you and Barkeep49 are creating several articles about Newbery winners. I am sure there are some in the Wikipedia community that would feel that the list of recipients in the Newbery Medal article is sufficient and that each book having its own article is overkill and not encyclopedic. For now, I am going to indicate that each new article has been patrolled, on the basis that each book article should be improved in the future to include at least a basic story line. That is the kind of information our Wikipedia users would be looking for, and that is why we are all here, isn't it. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 18:06, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
In the future, would you please use the {{Reflist}} template instead of the <References /> tag in the Reference section. Usage of the template is preferred and has several advantages. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 18:28, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Noticing your interest in Newbery winners, I wondered whether you might be interested in helping me clean up Robin McKinley's page. It looks as though it has been put together by fans a while ago and has had very little serious attention since then. I'm collecting a list of possible sources and references which I can paste into my talk page if you would like to collaborate. My interest is more to do with cleaning up unreferenced BLPs in the Children's Literature Project (am currently working on the Peter Sis page) than the Newbery Medal but it occurred to me that our interests might coincide on this page. Requesting information about a deleted article (2005 deletion)

[edit]

Hi,

I wanted to ask your help with something. In 2005 you deleted an article Abdulkarim Ghuraib. The deletion log is below. The reason I am asking your help is because I am involved in the editing of the article Algiers Accords. From the article Iran hostage crisis, I extracted this name. After a citation was requested (with good reason I might add), I searched to verify the existence and role of this person; my web searches have not turned up a person "Abdulkarim Ghuraib". I scanned the history of the Iran hostage crisis article, and saw that the name was added in this edit Iran hostage crisis, Revision as of 2005-02-07T20:18:25, with an edit summary pointing to the deleted article.

The deletion discussion Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Abdulkarim_Ghuraib only refers to notability and the fact that he did not turn up in Google. In the contents of the article were there any sort of references for this person and his role in the negotiations? Is is meaningful and possible for me to see the contents of the article before it was deleted?

Thanks for your reply.
Don't worry about the delay. It's fine. I had noticed in your contributions that your last edit at the time was a while back, so I wasn't expecting a quick response.
As for the substance, you're quite right. It doesn't help. I had hoped that maybe the article was a bit longer, offering a piece of information that could guide further "research".
But no...
Anyway, thanks again.
Cheers, --Atavi (talk) 17:43, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Carol Huston page reinstatement request

Hi, I just noticed your name as the admin who deleted the Carol Huston page 5 years ago. I think it is worth reinstating the page. She is the only star listed on the Matlock (TV series) page whose name is not a wikipedia page, and she has a substantial list of TV and film credits. [1] I neither know her nor have any conflict of interest, but I just think the page deserves to be reinstated. I figured you would be the right person to contact regarding this. Thanks for all the work you do! (P.S. If you do reinstate it, please leave a message on my page so I can work on bringing it up to standards.) Davemcarlson (talk) 07:01, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Articles deletion

[edit]

Dear Joyous,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but have no other way than appealing for administrators’ help recover a deleted article.

I published a film article entitled Drits (Derivas), a film by Portuguese director Ricardo Costa. It is the second film from an autobiographic trilogy, Faraways. The article was kept untouched by several months. To my surprise, it was recently eliminated and redirected to the director’s page with no discussion. I undid the redirection, but saw the article was proposed to deletion. Reason: independent, verifiable, secondary resources. I argued that the article couldn’t have but primary sources (the producer’s ones) as it is an upcoming film, like many others listed at upcoming films. A film that has not yet been premiered or distributed may not be commented. Besides, none of the films so listed has ever been deleted or even contested.

At last, in discussion, user User:reddogsix proposed that the article should be renamed to Drifts (film) or similar, and at the same time put at the disambiguation page of Dritf this reference «Drifs, unreleased film by Ricardo Costa (filmmaker). I created a new page for the same article entitled Drifts (Portuguese film). As the semantic root “drift” seemed to be the problem, I replaced the article name to Derivas (Drifts) and published it once more with some improvements. As a result, the article was fast deleted and I blocked for three days.

In the meantime, a new article about the trilogy was published: Faraways, which was proposed to fast deletion as well by the same user, User:reddogsix.

Although unreleased, although having no reliable secondary sources, Drifts is unquestionably an outstanding film for its uniqueness and characteristics: autobiography, comedy, docufiction, metafiction in one. I guess that “outstanding” may be a synonym for “notable” in such cases and that articles like this shouldn’t be deleted without previous cared analyses: important information may be lost.

This sequence of interventions is clearly a personal attack by User:reddogsix, supported by two or three user friend. It has no other explanation. It contributes in nothing to improve articles quality. Mists article, which I created on 10 September 2010, is the latest example. The article structure was unreasonably modified, loosing clarity and useful content.

NOTE: sent to 30 administrators.

Thanks for your attention, User:Tertulius 21:53, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

[edit]

Hello, Joyous!. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

[edit]

Hi Joyous!.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
