Ninetology Sdn. Bhd. is an ASEAN mobile device technology company with its headquarters based in Malaysia. The company designs, develops and sells Android based smart mobile devices based on its unique 'Smart Communication System' business model that integrates mobile network communications, mobile operating systems, cloud storage system and mobile smart devices[1]. The framework of this system encompasses connectivity with ASEAN telecommunication providers and mobile partners while opening content sources and device applications to customization, providing a better user interface and experience[2]. According to Sean Ng, CEO of Ninetology, they have managed to capture 5.2% of the Malaysian mobile device market share as of February 2013 since emerging in the market the previous year. [3]

History

[edit]

2012

[edit]

It was founded in August 2012 and had made its presence known by debuting a line up of affordable Android based smartphones and tablets in November 2012[4].

On August 29 2012, Ninetology had made a RM360 million attempt to take over Ingeuinty Solutions BHD (ISB), a company listed under Bursa Malaysia's Ace Market,[5] by making a formal offer to buy 39.44% of its shares from four of Ingeuinty's major shareholders (Chin Boon Long, Firstwide Success Sdn Bhd, Landasan Simfoni Sdn Bhd and Titanium Hallmark Sdn Bhd) at 55 cents per share[6], with the condition all the mentioned shareholders must agree to sell their shares and at the same price[7].

The attempt was halted after Chin Boon Long had came forward at a press conference on September 5th 2012 to reject the offer by Ninetology[8].

2013 to Present

[edit]

During the month of April 2013, Ninetology announced a new strategic collaboration with Tune Talk (an ASEAN Mobile Virtual Network Operator) and Qualcomm titled "Synergistic Strategic Alliance" in a bid to strengthen Ninetology's offerings and to address the demands of the Malaysian youth market[9]. A campaign themed 'Experiencing Differences with The Youth’s Spirit' was launched under this new collaboration [10].

Smart Ecology

[edit]

The Smart Ecology Campaign is a CSR program initiated by Ninetology with the Malaysian Nature Society(MNS) in support of MNS's "Recycle for Nature" campaign. Under this program, Ninetology will collect old or obsolete mobile devices and pass it on to MNS for recycling[11]. Ninetology also encouraged consumers to participate in the initiative by offering a lower price when consumers trade in their old phones while purchasing a Ninetology Palette[12]. The first batch of 10,000 old phones collected by Ninetology was received by the MNS on May 17 2013[13].

VOX G.O.L.D

[edit]

The VOX G.O.L.D Program is a donation fund set up by Ninetology to raise funds for Yayasan Maha Karuna. Ninetology had committed to donate a percentage of its accumulated sales from its Ninetology Vox model to the fund[14].
