Village

[edit]

I hope nobody is too offended that I changed the description from "village " to "urban development". I looked the place up on Google to verify its location and, based on the housing type and integration with surrounding areas, it doesn't look much like a village to me. Furthermore, the 1923 map shows a single building there, so it isn't a historic village. If it is officially classified as a village then please feel free to change it back. --DanielRigal (talk) 21:48, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge

[edit]

I propose that Tannochside be merged into Viewpark. The Tannochside article is fairly short and unreferenced, and can be dealt with in the context of a neighbouring settlement. While Tannochside is sometimes described – as in the article at present – as part of Uddingston, it is actually classed as part of the Viewpark locality for census purposes, so I would take that to be a better candidate for merging to, by official definition. Concur with this, and would suggest the same for Birkenshaw, North Lanarkshire? Similar article length and (lack of) importance. Also, I would consider the water tower in the image for the Tannochside article to come under the side of the road belonging to Birkenshaw. However, as has been commented in the article, the boundaries are not well defined. Crowsus (talk) 14:05, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose merge, on the grounds that Tannochside seems to have a significant independent history. For example, the Tannochside history section from St John Baptist describe Tannochsides and Uddingston as separate areas in the 19th century, and of comparable (parish) sizes. Viewpark was formed as a mid-20th century housing estate for miners. So, I'd keep it separate in support of its independent history rather than its current size. Notable People

[edit]

Shipsview, thanks for hunting down a citation for the information you reverted back in [1], and I won't remove it again now it is sourced. However I also made the point it was undue. This is just a single snapshot fan poll (self selected sample) of a player mentioned in the notable people section of an article about a place. The player's bio consumes nearly 15% of the prose on this page. That looks undue to me. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 10:37, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
