Should the engine spec like its bore and stroke be stated in SI metric system?

(since 1. Toyota uses SI metric system in engineering;

2. the imperial system stated when converted back to SI system can have a slight variation like for 2AR engine: bore s/b 9.0cm not 8.99cm; stroke s/b 9.8cm not 9.79cm; for 1AR engine: stroke s/b 10.5cm;

3. it has to be accurate because in later years people may need accurate info to rebore their engine, or find the right size piston etc;

4. for consistency, I sampled a few other article about Toyota engines in Wiki, the bore and stroke are all stated in metric system.)

The usual way is to use a template to convert between the more precisely known measurement to the other measurement. E.g. {{convert|80|mm|in|2|abbr=on}} gives "80 mm (3.15 in)" with 2 decimal place accuracy. Stepho-wrs (talk) 06:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Knowing that Toyota love using 0.1mm steps for bore and stroke, I tried different combinations until I found 90x98=2494cc and 90x105=2672cc to within 0.5cc. (bore in mm, stroke in mm, giving displacement in cc). Then used {{convert}} to give back imperial measurement that agree with the original references. The 1AR engine has a higher output for Highlander. Is it possible to present the info neatly in the table format?

Picture of 2AR-FE engine

I have a picture of the 2AR-FE engine installed in a 2011 Camry. I took the picture, so I own it, and would like to have it posted in the 2AR-FE section. Apparently, I don't hold sufficient rights to upload a picture to Wikipedia. 8AR-FTS?

According to some sources (http://news.drom.ru/Lexus-IS-NX-28136.html), Lexus NX and forthcoming Lexus IS turbocharged are equipped with 8AR-FTS engine (googling for "8AR-FTS" also yields references to toyota.co.jp sources -- e.g. http://newsroom.toyota.co.jp/en/detail/2039119).

So, 1. 8AR-FTS deserves mentioning. 2. A big fat question: what are other engines between 2AR and 8AR -- 3,4,5,6,7? 84.237.43.230 (talk) 03:27, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, the article should be expanded. Since everyone is allowed to edit WP articles, you can have a go. Don't worry about mistakes, more experienced editors will clean it up.

Toyota does like to do weird things with it's engine/vehicle codes. My guess is that the 3..7AR will never exist. But was released in China, so it might come from the same TianJin factory as the 8A engine.  Stepho  talk  07:14, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Otto or Atkinson?

Which model Crown, which calendar year? If the engine code has an X (eg 2AR-FXE) in it then it is Atkinson cycle. Most Toyota hybrids use the Atkinson cycle.  Stepho  talk  08:15, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive oil consumption?
