General Comments

[edit]

I restored the section on early history, which was deleted (probably by accident) by an anon account. Grandmaster 12:59, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the sentence "Cutting off the oil supply considerably weakened Japan in the latter part of the Pacific war." should be removed as totally irrelevant. I don't see how oil from Azerbaijan could have reached Japan at that time.

There is nothing in the Baku Oil Fields article that couldn't be here. It's an unsourced stub that doesn't assert any importance apart from this article. 24.4.253.249 04:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Acg 180x144.jpg

[edit]

Image:Acg 180x144.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Taking it to GA?

[edit]

There's already enough material in the article, a little expansion on the personae of the industry and inline refs from English and Russian sources (ones that I comprehend and have on hand), proofreading and it's a GA. However, the article must not beat the bush about the events of August 1905 (right now it does, leaving the reader guessing as to what did wreck the industry). Oil Production statistics: clarity and citation needed

[edit]

I'm skeptical of the following numbers: "By 1901, Baku produced more than half of the world's oil (11 million tons or 212,000 barrels (33,700 m3) of oil per day), and 55 percent of all Russian oil." If Baku was responsible half of the world's oil production and 55% of Russia's production, that implies that Russia was responsible for about 90% of the world's production. Surely not, particularly if, as stated in the previous sentence, Russia's 8 million tons just exceeded US production three years earlier. Finally, does the 11 million tons represent Baku production or world production? In sum, statement needs verification, citation, and clarification.
