Article title

[edit]

Why is there " - Canada East" as part of the article title? Schwede66 03:01, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fair question. It's because there will eventually be an article with the same name for an electoral district in Canada West. The Ottawa region was divided between Canada West and Canada East, and the same name was used for electoral districts in both regions. I appreciate it's a long title, but necessary for disambiguatuon eventually. My plan is to do an article for all of the ridings for Canada East and Canada West from 1841 to 1866, and I'm thinking long-term. :) Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 04:49, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Party colours

[edit]

Party colours are given for each member. In doing so, care must be taken to avoid anachronistic use of modern party colours. Party affiliation was a fluid and dynamic concept, and changed throughout the 26 years of the existence of the Province of Canada. Wikipedia:WikiProject Political parties and politicians in Canada/list of parties does not have colours assigned to pre-Confederation parties, so colours have been assigned to each party or group from the range of colours available.

In the table of members for Ottawa County, the following colours have been used:

  • Purple: Unionist
  • Mauve: Government Tory / "British" Tory
  • Green: French-Canadian Group
  • Dark Grey: Members who changed their affiliation during their term
  • Light Green: "English" Moderate
  • Red: Parti rouge
  • Mauve: Conservative
  • Yellow: Confederation
