We should remove the hat note

[edit]

I don't think we need the navigation link on top to List of Talmudic principles#Migo. First of all, this links to a 4-sentence section of a completely unsourced page. Second, traffic stats show it's completely useless, as the views of List of Talmudic principles over the last 60 days (443) are just 0.03% of the views of Migos (1,309,612). If we assume about 5% of the views of the list come from the hat note, that will mean 22 of the 1,309,612 visitors ( 0.00001% ) have actually used the hat note. 2Flows (talk) 14:44, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As no one opposed for a week, I'll go ahead and remove it. 2Flows (talk) 17:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is a duplicate sentence, once in the "2016: Signing to GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings" heading in the History section, and once in the "2016-present: Continued legal issues" heading in the Legal Issues section. I suggest removing it from the History section.

The sentence is "On March 17, 2016, Offset was arrested for driving with a suspended license but was released the next day without having charges filed.[29] Offset has since claimed his license was never suspended and the police detained him without just cause." 77.86.45.106 (talk) 09:28, 12 December 2016 (UTC)  Done - I removed the first version - Arjayay (talk) 10:11, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Include Takeoff's real name in the article in parentheses, after his stage name: Kirshnik Ball. Meaning of migos

[edit]

In the first paragraph it cites a video of an interview where they explain what migos means, although the explanation is a little vague, it certainly is not explained to be the same thing as a 'bando' or 'traphouse' which is what an actual abandoned house might be referring to. The real definition of migos has more to do with hispanic influences with the drug trade and the pipeline of drugs that come through their home county where Lawrenceville is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fishmcctf (talkcontribs) 07:30, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. When pressed if "Migos" actually referred to the Spanish word "amigos," which means friends, Quavo said "Yeah, yeah, but actually, it's the hub of drugs out there, so everything that comes to Georgia got to touch Gwinnett first, so we just call it Migos." — he was agreeing to the fact that Migos means 'friends' and that the hub of drugs is his friends. — Zawl 17:16, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MEANING OF MIGOS

[edit]

"Migos" does not refer to an abandoned house used for production or consumption of drugs, that is a "bando." Not sure who wrote that or where they got that from but, no... Migos just means friends, like Amigos... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.124.16.77 (talk) 17:01, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed changes:

- Change "Migos is an American hip hop trio from Augusta, Georgia" to Migos is an American hip hop trio from Lawrenceville, Georgia

- Change the origin to Lawrenceville, Georgia, United States

- Change "originally known as Polo Richmond Academt Club and from Augusta, Georgia" to originally known as Polo Club and are from Lawrenceville, Georgia

- Change "the three of them grew up together in Richmond County, a mostly suburban area two hour southeast of Atlanta" to the three of them grew up together in Gwinnett County, a mostly suburban area one hour northeast of Atlanta

Reason for changes: If you go to any of the pages for the individual members it states that they are all from Lawrenceville, GA in Gwinnett County. People from Augusta, Georgia have been essentially trying to steal the Migos from Gwinnett County by claiming that they are from Richmond County.

The Migos often talk about the "nawf" and being from there. The nawf is a region of metro Atlanta that typically includes regions of Gwinnett County, not Richmond County. Links below detail sources containing drawn maps of the region and an ajc article stating that the Migos are from "Lawrenceville in Gwinnett County"

Location of Birth

[edit]
The Migos (Offset, Quavo,& Takeoff) are originally from Oconee County, Georgia. "Since birth they have been the hardest trappers on god bruh" -Cardigan Backyardigan They soon moved to Atlanta city where they came together and created the Migos a 2008 rap group who produced many billboard albums like their 2017 hit album "Culture" Which Skyrocketed with their number 1 song "Bad and Boujee" Featuring hit artist Lil Uzi Vert.Their little cousin Taleyiah Renee Fosque was born August First 2007. She goes by the name sxpreme rich kidd.

The founding of Migos the trio

[edit]

Quavo had an idea he form hip hop trio and in to do that he approached his nephew Take-off about the idea and agrees to join Quavo on this new journey..and the two were promoting music as their previous the "Polo band" Quavo and Take-off approached asked him to join band..and tested his rap skills.. therefore they became a trio and changed "Polo band" to Migos because they felt a strong bond Between them .as they were related and Great friends."Migos" the trio name was chosen because it meant friends in an Mexican translation Futsek (talk) 07:07, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely, so since 2022 migos hasn't been active. Even Quavo mentions that Migos died when the day Takeoff was shot since he was the foundation of the trio.

Duo, trio, or group

[edit]

Are the Migos now classified as a group, duo, or still a trio? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JuanBoss105 (talkcontribs) 18:17, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Offset is not a Current Member

[edit]

I would make the arguememt that Quavo is the only Current member, as Unc & Phew became the successor to the Migos after Offset departed from the Migos in early 2022. Migos is either defunct or a Quavo-only group. 2601:240:CB00:60E0:2CED:9B50:DC1F:FFEB (talk) 16:25, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Change "Years active 2008–present" to "Years active 2008–2023"

Reasoning: On February 22, 2023, Quavo posted a music video for his song "Greatness". A song written in dedication to Takeoff, Quavo confirmed in the song that the group was no more. Icxshot (talk) 02:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. This interpretation of the song requires attribution to a reliable source. Actualcpscm (talk) 07:06, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Correction: The song is frequently interpreted that way, but there is a lack of an official statement. Until an announcement is made and reported on in credible sources, the years active should not be changed. Actualcpscm (talk) 07:16, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Breakup

[edit]

An edit request. I'm hereby also pinging User:1Sire, because of this edit. This article currently has 2 issues. The first issue is that Migos § 2023–present: Tributes To Takeoff still says "[...] frequently interpreted as confirmation that the group has broken up. However, as of today, no official statement has been made." even though sources confirm they have broken up. The second issue is related to our use of (these) sources. I'll explain. In the lead, 3 sources are used to substantiate our claim that Migos "were" (and not "is"). And in the section I linked above, 2 sources are used for our claim that "no official statement has been made". Of these 5 sources, we should remove the 3 that merely speculate. This includes billboard.com, that says (emphasis mine) "[...] hinting that the group is no more." This includes xxlmag.com, that says (emphasis mine) "Quavo Appears to Say [...]" and "seemingly ending all speculation" and "doesn't appear to be the case." This even includes latimes.com, whose title says "Quavo declares end of Migos" but whose body says "appears to have declared the end of the rap group". See the references in Clickbait, where we explain that "Clickbait headlines often add an element of dishonesty, using enticements that do not accurately reflect the content being delivered." Of the 5 sources, we should keep the 2 that actually state the group is no more. These are musictimes.com, that says "confirming that they are now a duo as Offset is no longer part of the rap group"; and particularly vibe.com, that says "Quavo And Takeoff Clarify Why Migos Broke Up" and indeed explains why they broke up. (Of these 2, the former is a mediocre source, because one could argue it says Migos still exists but with just two members.) By fixing the article as I just outlined, we also clarify when exactly they broke up. Not after Takeoff died. He died 1 November 2022. The 2 reliable articles we should use for their breakup are dated 4 October 2022, in other words from before Takeoff died. The 3 publications that speculate, and we should not use, are the ones dated 23 February 2023, that merely discuss and interpret the song "Greatness". --2001:1C06:19CA:D600:7BB1:ECF5:7FBE:B5A1 (talk) 06:59, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, this also means the end year of parameter years_active in the infobox should be changed from 2023 to 2022. And some heading level 3 changes are required, because instead of 2016–2022 and 2023–present, with the former heading currently including "Takeoff's death", the breakup was 2022, and his death thereafter. In other words, we could use "2016–2021: Culture trilogy" and "2022: Breakup and Takeoff's death". (And then obviously move some body text around.) --2001:1C06:19CA:D600:7BB1:ECF5:7FBE:B5A1 (talk) 07:23, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: Near as I can tell, this is multiple requests in one. For clarity, please submit an edit request for each. This will facilitate discussion of each edit on its own, should there be a concern about consensus.
For any submitted requests, please use the 'change X to Y' format to make it clear, and provide reliable sources to support each request. I suggest you state the 'X to Y' form of a request, then afterward explain the rationale if needed (and it would probably be best to use paragraphs as well). As it is right now, it is very difficult to tell what all exactly this edit request is suggesting should be changed, since the requested edits are intertwined with rationales.

Come on, User:M.Bitton. You could have rejected the edit request but still done something about the broken link. Edit requests do not disallow you from using your own brain and making an edit on your own accord. You've ran into dead links before, and you are aware of options to improve articles with such links. Nothing stopped you from taking two actions, 1. rejecting with WP:EDITXY, and 2. doing something about the dead link. And then instead of just punching me in the face, you could have also thanked me for pointing out the dead link and together we would have improved Wikipedia. --2001:1C06:19CA:D600:7BB1:ECF5:7FBE:B5A1 (talk) 15:30, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
