Contract extension
[edit]@U-Mos: you have been removing reference to Cowden having a contract extension. Cowden states the following: "I was a little bit later to soften the blow. But of course all the contracts come up at the same time, because we were all employed at the same time, so I got a little bit longer-er-er." What was the issue with me stating she had a contract extension?Rain the 1 20:25, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have watched the video too and I can't see an issue with it either DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 20:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's synthesis. Cowden says the contracts all expired in the same period, and says she "got a little bit longer". That could mean her contract was extended, or it could mean it expired a little later (which considering she started the reboot later - pretty much a year to the day she'll be leaving - is entirely plausible). We can't make that interpretation either way. U-Mos (talk) 21:25, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- I do not understand how it could mean it expired a little later? She said the contracts expired at the same time but she got a little bit longer. That is what she said. Here you are making interpretations based on when you think Cowden was employed. I am going off Cowden's quote. You also discounted the fact that Cowden also appeared in the first episode back in 2023.Rain the 1 21:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- The difference is that while I'm noting here on a talk page that that is a possibility, I'm not suggesting it should be in the article. She's speaking extemporaneously, and there's ellipsis within "we were all employed at the same time, so I got a little bit longer" (because them all being employed "at the same time" doesn't explain why she "got a little bit longer") and we shouldn't be guessing what joins those dots. - She stated she left later to "soften the blow" of the multiple cast departures do that explains why she "got a little bit longer". I just think this has become over complicated and below a solution was offered up. Are you okay with it now?Rain the 1 00:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think I would remove the word 'extension' since it's not explicitly used, but include the "all the contracts come up at the same time..." quote, adding that Cowden said she also "got a little bit longer" and later filmed a guest appearance? I assume she means that she stayed on past the other departing actors to film Mel's exit and guest appearance. Hopefully she'll explain it a bit more in future interviews. - JuneGloom07 Talk 23:39, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
On 29 October 2024, Cowden announced her departure from Neighbours via the NeighBens podcast, describing the decision to write out the character as "a bitter old pill to swallow".[1] Producers informed Cowden that her contract would not be renewed in December 2023, and her departure occurred during a time four other characters were written out.[1] Cowden explained that "all the contracts come up at the same time because we were all employed at the same time", however, she got to stay on "a little bit later to soften the blow" of the multiple departures.[2] Cowden recalled that fellow cast members were "shocked to their socks" that she had been written out.[1] She soon discovered Moloney was also leaving his role, which helped her make sense of the producer's decision to write Melanie out of the show. She believed that without Toadie and his family, writers were not sure what they could do with Melanie.[1] Melanie's exit involves a leaving party, before she departs in her truck.[1] Cowden revealed that she fell down a step and broke her nose whilst filming Melanie's exit scenes, which necessitated scenes to be remounted with the Neighbours location manager standing in for Cowden and, when Cowden was available, doubles for other unavailable cast members.[2] Cowden subsequently filmed a short guest appearance, and expressed willingness to reprise the role again.[1]
- Thank you for finding a solution JuneGloom07. I used your suggestion entirely.Rain the 1 00:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

- It is also worth mentioning WP:CONSECUTIVECITE, which states: Avoid cluttering text with redundant citations like this: and then exampled: Elephants are large[1] land[2] mammals[3] ... Elephants' teeth[4] are very different[4] from those of most other mammals.[3][4] Unlike most mammals,[3] which grow baby teeth[5] and then replace them with a permanent set of adult teeth,[4] elephants have cycles of tooth[5] rotation throughout their entire[6] lives.[4] So the sequential citings of "[1] above could just be mentioned at the end of the sentence structures. livelikemusic (TALK!) 00:35, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
