"Lochiel" = "Loch Eil" ?

[edit]

In an 1888 issue of "The Celtic Magazine," it says the Barony of Lochiel was originally "bounded by [the lands of] Clanranald on the west, by the waters of Lochy and Lochiel on the south, and by [the lands of Clan] Mackintosh on the east and north." (See http://books.google.com/books?id=SRoJAQAAIAAJ&q=lochiel#v=snippet&q=%22lochy%20and%20lochiel%22&f=false )

I take this to mean that the word "Lochiel" was once synonymous with Loch Eil. Can anyone confirm or refute this? 174.24.50.139 (talk) 14:16, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
