Further reading

[edit]

Hi, the entry in further reading has a pages parameter of 244, I guess this is the number of pages in the book but there is no parameter in the template for the number of pages in a book. Parameter page is used for a single page the item appears on & pages for multiple pages. Keith D (talk) 18:12, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit

Suggestions

[edit]
  • "Leeds does not have an Anglican cathedral, but the minster has close links with the Roman Catholic Cathedral Church of St Anne in Leeds."

There are two ideas in this sentence. They both revolve around the word "cathedral". But what on earth is meant? Does this mean that since there is no Anglican cathedral, the Catholic cathedral is in charge of this church? A person who has no understanding of the roles of the Church of England and the Catholic Church in England is likely to think that this is what is meant. Can I suggest that you say something like: Since there is no Anglican Cathedral in Leeds, Leeds MInster plays a major role in manner A, manner B and manner C within the city. Don't mention that Catholic cathedral specifically, because it isn't relevant. This is about "ecumenical outreach" (or some words like that), not about "links" (which can mean a thousand things) with the Catholic cathedral.

  • There is a statement about the church becoming a "minster". There needs to be a little more discussion of what this implies. Even a sentence like "At DATE the Church of England raised the church to the status of a minste" would help. Otherwise some of our readers are going to presume that the church suddenly became a monastic church, with a body of men or women in Holy Orders.
  • More referencing is needed. This shouldn't be hard as I presume most of the info comes from several readily available sources.
  • The window needs explanation. It is a very unusual and obviously heavily-restored window. You must put a rough date on it at the very least. Are there other windows in the church that are in the same style as that one, or are the others very different?
  • Move the long list of priests down near the bottom. Long lists are a serious distraction.. The list of organists needs to be moved to a page of Church organists which hasn't been created yet. We are still working on the List of musicians at English cathedrals.
