Its own album/not a reissue now?

[edit]

In now-deleted tweets, SZA claimed that she would be redoing Lana all over again because three of her songs (I assume they were "Joni", "Work It", and "Protect My Heart" but I don't see RS talking about it) were leaked, but a day later she said: "Will be dropping the leaks and outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap. Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before. Seems fair. Bless." Now, I assume she was being very particular with her words here and said the actual deluxe will not consist of new material, which implies Lana is an entirely new project. This tracks with what she previously said about Lana evolving into its new album. Thoughts? ‍  Elias 🪐  (dreaming of Saturn; talk here) 05:19, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Your Power I believe due to SZA's words, she now wants Lana to be its new seperate work. The intended songs for the original Lana reissue will likely be repurposed into SOS' new deluxe album. She hasn't made a statement on whether Saturn will remain part of Lana or will instead become part of the SOS deluxe. 𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘦𝘭'𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺, 05:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AskeeaeWiki I agree with the first and last bits...but secondary sources are currently reporting "Saturn" is intended for Lana right now, so I am ambivalent to changing it. Further, while "DTM" is likely staying on Lana because it was made after SOS and nobody technically leaked it, that might mean songs like "Boy from South Detroit", previewed back in 2021; "PSA", previewed in 2022 before the official SOS teaser; and "Joni", dropped in 2021 and has since had its verse with Don Toliver leaked, will be for the actual deluxe instead because they probably are outtakes. We should keep an eye out for that deluxe soon so the article for Lana, as well as SOS, can be updated accordingly. ‍  Elias 🪐  (dreaming of Saturn; talk here) 05:49, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging other frequent contemporary music editors @Flabshoe1 @Dylx for their input. ‍  Elias 🪐  (dreaming of Saturn; talk here) 05:29, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with waiting for the SOS Deluxe drop to make any changes. Artists change their plans a lot, so we’ll have to wait and see what makes it onto the deluxe to be sure what is intended for Lana and what is not. Flabshoe1 (talk) 09:55, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Flabshoe1, I know you said to wait for changes, but jfyi, Rolling Stone just reported on the topic and came to the same conclusion: "Last night, SZA further addressed the issue in a series of tweets, confirming the deluxe edition of SOS will now feature 'the leaks and outtakes' and Lana will be its own thing." If a reliable source makes this interpretation, is it at the very least safe to edit the article to signify Lana is now SZA's third studio album? We can edit the rest of the article such that it doesn't explicitly say "DTM" etc. will be on Lana. ‍  Elias 🪐  (dreaming of Saturn; talk here) 13:09, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since it's been reported by a secondary source, I think it is fair to include that in the article for Lana, explaining that it was initially intended to be the deluxe but has now become its own project/release (instead of studio album, because I don't think SZA or any secondary source has confirmed the length of the new project). Likewise, the other songs can be edited to say they are intended for the deluxe of SOS, originally entitled Lana before that became a separate project. Hey @Your Power, thanks for thinking of me! To be honest, I've been refraining from adding content to SZA-related articles recently because, as we all know, news with her changes so often. Her releases have been too chaotic for me to keep up with past being a casual listener, and her career has been all over the place. I haven't been keeping up with much SOS/Lana news, but IMO, the Rolling Stone piece is convincing enough for me to consider this her third studio album. I don't understand how a project originally intended to be a deluxe edition for an album becomes a new project, a reissue, then a new body of work unrelated to the album it was created to be a deluxe for? It's just too confusing for me. Dylx 15:58, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dylx: Yeah I fear there's a lot going on. I saw on Twitter (and my SoundCloud account) her label's been taking down three songs ("Potting Season" / "PSA", "Nightbird", "Take You Down") from the platform since a few hours ago, so I think we're way past the point that we remain confused on whether the deluxe and Lana are the same thing --- the songs are getting copyright striked, which means their official release is soon. ‍  Elias 🪐  (dreaming of Saturn; talk here) 03:42, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
