Did it end?
[edit]The operations carried out after the lifting of the siege of Kuweires are written as 'final operations', but most sources agree now that the SAA wants to use the Kuweires offensive as a launch pad to take one or more of the following major IS-controlled areas: Tedef, Deir Haif, Al Bab.
Given that fighting is still happening in the area in January 2016 and that territory is changing hands, I don not think we can write 'Kuweires offensive (September-November 2015)'. I am proposing to change the titan to 'Kuweires offensive (September 2015 - present)'. What are your opinions on this? PutItOnAMap (talk) 20:35, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- The current offensive/operation is separate from the Kuweires one. The Kuweires offensive's objective was to break the siege of the airport. As soon as that was done, a second offensive/operation started, with the objective (as seen now in retrospective) being to reach the city of Al-Bab, north of the airport. So I would suggest creating a new article titled East Aleppo offensive (November 2015–present) or some-such. EkoGraf (talk) 10:56, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
I read here [1] that the objective might no longer be to capture Al Bab, Tedef or Deir Hafir yet - but clearly, they at least want to reach it, or get close to it. Personally, my opinion is that they were securing the surrounding villages to make it a secure area for Russia to use as an airbase. It is already known that Russian surveyors are now looking into seeing how capable Kuweires Airbase would be as a hub for Russian planes, so it's possible that the objective might just be to consolidate SAA control around Kuweires. Would that deserve another article of its own? If you think so, I can make one. PutItOnAMap (talk) 12:41, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
In any case, weather their objective is just securing the buffer zone around the airport or reaching Al-Bab or Deir Hafir, there is an ongoing offensive. But its clearly separate from the previous one which had the objective to break the base siege. Yeah @PutItOnAMap:, I think another article titled East Aleppo offensive (November 2015–present) is required. EkoGraf (talk) 17:28, 25 January 2016 (UTC) Making that article now. PutItOnAMap (talk) 12:55, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
It's done. I'm editing this page now because the final operations stage is actually part of the [2]. PutItOnAMap (talk) 13:18, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you @PutItOnAMap:. EkoGraf (talk) 13:59, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
