Request for addition of Discography entries
[edit]TheClarinetGuy talk 14:09, 4 April 2021 (UTC) -
Untitled
[edit]Could someone please add the following two entries to the bottom of my Discography section:
- 2020 Cohler plays and conducts Mozart with Jonathan Cohler (conductor/clarinetist), Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra,[1] including Clarinet Concerto in A Major, KV 622, Symphony No. 35 in D Major, KV 385 ("Haffner") , and the overtures to Don Giovanni, KV 527 and The Magic Flute, KV 620 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Ongaku Records CD 024-128[2]
- 2020 Rasa Vitkauskaite plays Mozart & Beethoven Concertos with Rasa Vitkauskaite (pianist), Jonathan Cohler (conductor), Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra,[1] including Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, KV 466 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Ongaku Records CD 024-129[3]
- @Cohler: Mr. Cohler, do you think it would be possible to find WP:IS that are publicly available, about these 2 releases? The fanfarearchive cannot be accessed without a paid subscription, which I understand people interested in reading this article may already have, but Wikipedia editors in general may not. I did a cursory search for additional sources, but in the first 10min. I couldn’t find any. Thank you. Ferkjl (talk) 17:29, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Unfortunately, that's the nature of classical music. Fanfare is the leading publication for classical music reviews, however, and its issues are all available in print and online through the archive. And it absolutely does qualify as WP:IS and is often cited on WP without even a link. It also is the most authoritative source. There are very few reputable, independent review journals of classical music these days. Fanfare is the best possible source. Indeed, that issue actually contains 7 or 8 reviews of the CD by different reviewers. There is a review of the first disc on MusicWeb International here that does not require subscription which you could also list, but given that the Fanfare reference is the better source, I would ask that you at least list that one first. The second CD was released just a couple of months ago, and there are 7 or 8 reviews of it in, and it is on the cover of, the current issue of Fanfare. I don't know of any other online reviews of that CD at the moment. TheClarinetGuy talk 17:48, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Cohler: I’ve browsed the available literature further, and can’t but agree with you. I have added both citations, the Fanfare paywalled content, and the MusicWeb review. Ferkjl (talk) 18:07, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Thank you! TheClarinetGuy talk 20:58, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Request for addition of teacher information
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
@Ferkjl: Would you be so kind as to add the following education/teacher information somewhere near the top of my page. Perhaps an "Education" subsection?
- Jonathan Cohler graduated from Harvard University in 1980 with a degree in physics. His clarinet teachers include Pasquale Cardillo,[4][5] Harold Wright, Karl Leister, Charles Neidich and Frank Martin.[4]
TheClarinetGuy talk 12:54, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Cohler: Hi Jonathan. As soon as you find a published independent source for your Harvard studies (e.g. even from the Harvard Alumni site, such as this: https://www.physics.harvard.edu/people/graduates), I’ll add it. I don’t want to go about adding uncited statements. Ferkjl (talk) 17:09, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Hi Ferkjl. Thanks for the quick response. I don't believe Harvard publishes that stuff online. Can I send you a page from the 2010 Harvard Alumni Directory published by Harvard? TheClarinetGuy talk 17:15, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Ah wait! I spoke to soon. Here is an online alumni page. It shows my graduation date, degree, the house I lived in etc but doesn't seem to mention my major. Is that good enough? TheClarinetGuy talk 17:28, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Cohler: Absolutely. Per WP:OFFLINE, references do not have to be online exclusively. But don’t worry, I found one that we can use at https://longy.edu/team/jonathan-cohler/. It’s already implemented. Ferkjl (talk) 17:36, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Thank you! Will you update the edit request template, or do I do that? TheClarinetGuy talk 17:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Cohler: Oooops, done.
Request to add citation and remove {{citation needed|date=January 2017}} tag
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
@Ferkjl: Here is a source from the Library of Congress for the reference to me playing under conductor Carl Topilow at the end of the first paragraph. That's a performance from 1979 when I was in the orchestra. Can you use this to remove the tag? I'm also listed as notable alumnus on the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra page where Carl Topilow is also mentioned. TheClarinetGuy talk 21:57, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- Certainly. Also, thanks to the extensive editing of references, I have removed the “Primary sources” banner. Ferkjl (talk) 18:10, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferkjl: Thank you! TheClarinetGuy talk 02:44, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Request to add citation for birth date and remove {{citation needed|date=January 2017}}
[edit]Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
@Ferkjl: Here is a source for my birth date.[6]
- The reference doesn’t work, I’m afraid. Unless you’re logged in, the link is redirected to a “Join us” page. In the meantime, I used a different one which I found after some digging around. Ferkjl (talk) 08:02, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! If the reference you used works, that's great. You can sign up for a free trial of Ancestry.com and access the page. Ancestry sources its data to official birth records from the state of Massachusetts, which are hard-copy records, by the way. TheClarinetGuy talk 11:32, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Request for addition to Discography Section
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
@Ferkjl: Can you please add the following new CD to my discography section? TheClarinetGuy talk 15:10, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- 2021 Latin Journey with Rasa Vitkauskaite (piano), recital of works by Carlos Guastavino, Arturo Márquez, Paquito D'Rivera,
and Alberto Ginastera. Ongaku Records CD 024-130[7] [8]
Request to add OCLC link
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
@Ferkjl: Can you please add the following OCLC link in the discography section for my 2016 CD Cohler plays and conducts Weber. Following the format that previous editors have used, it should be inserted just before the catalog listing at the end where it says "Ongaku Records CD 024-126". @Ferkjl: Would you be so kind as to add the following new CD to my discography section?
Also, if you could remove the following two long outdated flags from 2017 at the top of the page, that would be wonderful and most appreciated.

This page has, in fact, been extensively edited by numerous editors and bots for many years now with no edits of any kind by me since January of 2017, and it is neither anything even vaguely resembling an autobiography nor a resume.
Thank you for your consideration and your work!
TheClarinetGuy talk 03:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- 2023 Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E Minor; Double Concerto in D Minor; Capriccio Brillant in B Minor with Ilya Kaler (violin), Rasa Vitkauskaite (piano), Jonathan Cohler (conductor), and Budapest Ferenc Erkel Chamber Orchestra. Works by Felix Mendelssohn. Ongaku Records CD 024-132[9]
TheClarinetGuy talk 03:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- NEw CD is Done. As for the tags, while there have been many edits since 2017, the vast majority of them, notably excluding the section on climate denial, have been minor, and the majority of the text in the article still resembles the 2017 version. (Also, just as a note, User:Ferkjl hasn't edited for about a year.) Rusalkii (talk) 03:59, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you User:Rusalkii for adding the CD reference, and thank you for the update on User:Ferkjl. As for the autobiography tag, it was actually first added in 2008, the day after the article was created here about 16 years ago; the dating of 2017 is erroneous. There have indeed been copious substantive and organizational edits since it was first tagged, and as you can see for yourself, it looks nothing like it did when it was first tagged. Request for reevaluation of article 'Class'
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
This article was tagged as 'Start Class' when it was created in 2008: {{WikiProject banner shell|class=Start}} The article seems to be far beyond 'Start Class' at this point with copious editing, references, organization, and bot cleanup since then. I would suggest, based on the listed criteria for class definitions, that this article could be rated 'GA' or 'B'?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Cohler (talk • contribs)
- Not done: Looks more like a C to me, given the warning template on the article. You should address that first. ⸺(Random)staplers 23:20, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Note: nowiking template by User:Cohler.⸺(Random)staplers 23:21, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- @(Random)staplers: Thank you for updating to C class! At least that's a step in the right direction.
- As for the autobiography tag, it was first added in 2008, the day after I created the article and authorized its use 16 years ago. Since then — as you can see from the diff here — (1) there have been copious substantive and organizational edits by numerous authors and bots, (2) it looks nothing like it did when it was first tagged, and (3) it looks nothing like an 'autobiography' or a 'resume'.
- It would be great if you can remove those tags! Thank you for your help in improving the article. TheClarinetGuy talk 16:13, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
