Dating the Huai Nan Tzu

[edit]

The sourced article (Ernest McClain) states: "The complete cycle of 12 tones (lü) is given first in the Huai Nan Tzu, the book composed for Liu An, Prince of Huai Nan, ca. -122, both in 6-digit precise values and...". If you (66.8.129.46) would like to suggest a different date for inclusion in the article, please provide a source. - Rainwarrior 03:15, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That information which relates to Jing's biography should definitely be included, as long as we are positive that these are the same person. Is there anything in the Ernest McClain to corroborate that? Also, I suspect this page should be moved to Jing Fang, as that's the pinyin which is preferred usage per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese), unless another usage is much more common. Since this isn't a well-known figure, I wouldn't think that is the case. Rigadoun (talk) 21:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The move is a good idea, so I've done that. I was unfamiliar with Chinese naming conventions, and Ching Fang was just the name I had come across, myself. I'm reasonably certain they are the same person, as the dates line up and Jing Fang is known to have read the Huainanzi. (I'll dig up the McClain article again and take a look, but I'll also ask on the Yuan page if anyone knows about it there.) - Rainwarrior 23:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
