Body count

[edit]

Any idea on how many suspects to date he has fatally shot? Seems quite a few. Tigershoot (talk) 13:36, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dead

[edit]

Someone else edited it a second before I did. He's dead. :O

Can anyone cite a valid source that confirms this?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 03:07, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody has listed a valid source for this. This is just like the Warrick situation on the CSI article - yeah, he looks dead, but we don't know and it hasn't been confirmed. Someone else posted a link to a video that supposedly shows David Caruso "confirming" that the death was staged, but the video simply shows a clip from the finale. I have removed this; if the real video can be provided, I will have no objection to it being in the article since it would be proof of the character Horatio Caine's status, one way or another, but until there is solid evidence for either scenario, the character's status should remain officially "unknown." 72.184.120.177 (talk) 21:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline

[edit]

I'd love to see an orgainzed timeline of Horatio's life on this page. He was apparently in New York in 1995 (ten years before "Under Suspicion in 2005) to get knifed, but in Pensacola in 1991 (sixteen years before "Dangerous Son" in 2007) to father a son. He killed his father in New York (didn't catch how long before the 2005 episode "Nailed" it's mentioned in -- 20 years maybe?)...did he move back and forth between the states a lot? Or is it a continuity error? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.222.219 (talk) 07:22, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Horatio Caine & Catholicism

[edit]

Why does the article not mention his Catholicism? He's frequently seen going into confession or lighting votive candles.70.16.89.105 20:38, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think "frequent" is a bit of an overstatement. He's only ever seen in confession once, and it's implied that he only went because a priest he knew from New York was there. I've never seen him light a votive candle.

I feel I must something out. Eric Delko is now, and always will be, Horatio's brother-in-law. He would only have become his "ex-brother-in-law" if H had divorced Marisol. But since Horatio was widowed, the connection remains intact. Speaking of that marriage... Why didn't they get married in the Church? They are both Roman Catholic, after all. At least, we know H is, and if Eric Delko is, one assumes Marisol is, as well. DreamroseTavua 22:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think H is religious... He whent only one time to confess and that was to an old friend of his! And on the end of "From the Grave" a singing voice says "It isn't where I look but what I find".. That means atleast for me that Caine is not religious but only want to be forgived.. Call me stupid as I'm British and a bit behind over here, but is his year of birth really meant to be 1950? That would make the guy 57 next week. Certainly doesn't look it, or has he just aged well? Oinster 15:35, 30th March 2007

spoiler

i put a spoiler warning on the article because us Brits are a bit behind on the CSI series! Jackacon 08:54, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Next season relationship?

[edit]

Who is Mark Francis Noronha? I just came to this page and am somewhat confused by the the "highly controversial dating" line. There's nothing wrong with it, it merely seems out of character for the series, nor have I heard about it. Can anyone explain where this came from?

It looks like it is spam. The user that added it is called Mark Noronha and IMDB have no information on him. Additionally, yhe first hit on google is this page. --81.187.36.50 00:26, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes

[edit]

This is not a good place for a long list of quotes, especially as there is a link to Wikiquotes in the CSI:Miami navbox. Consequently I will remove the quotes section; revert it if you want to use the quotes. Editus Reloaded 11:51, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Justice Shades

[edit]

Help me with something? I have noticed that the first thing Horatio does when he is first seen in an episode, is take off his sunglasses, and the last thing he does at the end of the episode is put his sunglasses back on. Does this occur in every episode, or just some? If so, its something to add to the 'Frequent Quircks' section, yes?Benzin 20:56, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this say there are no citations?

[edit]

There are direct references to specific episodes to support every major statement in the article. 74.241.142.150 (talk) 23:53, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are no inline references within the article. eg: {{Cite episode}} should be used and enclosed in <ref></ref> tags. Also see: WP:CITE. Peachey88 (Talk Page | Contribs) 10:59, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characterisation

[edit]

It's an important part of Horatio's profile page. I'll add the previous characterisation section as it appeared, but revert if you think it's unnecessary. 86.10.75.40 (talk) 21:10, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Realistic Problems

[edit]

I added the POV and OR tags to this section, because It's both Original research (the show isn't in real time so not everything is visible) and its seemed to be biased towards him not breaking the rules and not neutral in that respect. Peachey88 (Talk Page | Contribs) 02:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's 'killed over 200 people in the series'. Crap! Unwisely (talk) 03:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wording in intro

[edit]

Does anyone find the word "excessive" to be non-neutral, as in "He is known for his excessive use of one-liners."? I think "excessive" should be either removed, or changed to something more neutral. joo-yoon (talk) 03:35, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Homicide/csi

[edit]

is Horatio a homicide detective and a csi?? He always is the one to question suspects and he always is with Frank or someone that is a homicide detective??? he almost never dose anything in the lab????????????--Forensics0122 (talk) 22:52, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

The current image is an image of David Caruso, not Horatio Caine. We need to put an actual screenshot of Horatio from an episode of the show. An image of an actor is not the same as an image of a character they portray. Comp25 (talk) 18:04, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a wikipedia account and I'm sure how to cite sources, but I think the realistic problems section was cool. Can somebody please bring it back, with citations? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.202.57 (talk) 18:41, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

World of Warcraft

[edit]

The recent changes to the game via the Cataclysm expansion has created a new non-player character named Lt. Horatio Laine. This NPC is involved as a 'detective' in several quest lines, usually starting a pun, putting on sunglasses, and then finishing the statement. It's particularly hilarious and I just wanted to mention it in case anyone wanted to add it as a cultural ref on this article. http://www.wowpedia.org/Horatio_Laine ~~

Religion of Horatio Caine

[edit]

I would like to point out that in the CSI: Miami novel "Right to Die" it clearly states that Horatio is a Devout Catholic. Chapter thirty-one, page 299. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.67.6.130 (talk) 01:59, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct origins of Horatio Caine

[edit]

This is the correct back story on Horatio Caine that was originally posted on the CBS website, I first read it when the series first started and was lucky enough to find it again after reading so many made up accounts of his origins. His only contact with the New York Police Department was while he was involved in tracking down Walter Resden who had also killed in Miami.

This bio was originally posted on [1] on Aug 10, 2004 at 4:36pm.

Name: Horatio Caine CSI Level/Rank: Three (Lieutenant) Heigth: 6'/182cm Weight: 180lbs/82kg Place of Birth: Miami, Fl Date of Birth: 04/07/1960 Education: B.S. in Chemistry (Florida State Univ.) Special Skills: Arson, Explosives Martial Status: Divorced

Raised in 1960s Miami, by age 16 Caine had experienced a lifetime: Civil Right marches, Cuban freedom fights, violent race riots, and the rise of drug culture.

His mother, a single parent in a time that did not favor such a definition of family taught Caine that strength resided in you mind, not your hand. Though she was demanding, her love protected him until she was killed by a drug dealer that she stood up to. At 17, while other teenagers were learning to disco, Caine set out to help the police find her killer. By the time the murderer was sentenced to life, Caine knew he had found his calling. To protect his city.

Caine entered the Police Academy after high school, but quickly discovered that the beat left him bored. When he realized that the evidence-cracking CSIs were the people who actually solved the crimes, he enrolled in university and, four years later, Chemistry degree in hand, he was a level I Criminalist with the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Rising quickly through the ranks, Caine grew frustrated with the departmental bureaucracy and threatened to quit. Al Humpries came to his rescue by offering to train him as his second-in-command with the Bomb Squad. Humpries became the father-figure Caine had never had.

When Megan Donner stepped down as head of the Crime Lab, the Police Chief asked Caine to take over. Although he had thrived as a member of the Bomb Squad, Cane missed what had drawn him to police work in the first place. The science of catching the bad guy. He accepted the position.

A three-dimensional thinker, Caine can rapidly understand how pieces fit into a puzzle. He knows that science ultimately provides the solution, but he also knows that there is more to crime-solving than blood spatter and DNA. When it comes to protecting his city, Horatio doesn't just trust science. He trusts his guts.

I hope you find this useful and amend this bio accordingly.

Backstories, and especially origin stories, are often modified during the course of the development of a series. I don't doubt that you saw what you saw. It's a type of artistic license, often applied at the convenience of the creators, and especially when new writers come onboard, the survival of the series (ratings, mkt share) depending on fresh perspectives, etc.

Wikipedia, in a way, is a special case, in that conventions and concensus practices have evolved to require a level of evidence for stated 'facts'. Sometimes the official website is not the best source for information, being more of a primary source, when secondary sources are actually preferred/mandated. All that said, I think your information is valuable, and not OR. I am but one voice among many. I have not seen every episode of CSI-M, and I seem to remember allusions to a move from NYPD to Miami-Dade on various occasions. As stated, 'The Truth' changes over time in a given fictional 'universe'. rags (talk) 12:10, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page title changed from "Horatio Caine" to "H. Caine", want to revert

[edit]

This page was created in 2006 and titled as "Horatio Caine". The title was changed April 2024 to "H. Caine" with the reason given as: "The character is known as H. Caine, what the H stands for being a reveal later on, not the common name." I disagree. Horatio Caine is the character's name. He was sometimes called "H" as a nickname, one syllable being easier than four, but only sometimes. I want to revert this title back to the original "Horatio Caine" and delete the redirect but because of the disagreement this move requires a consensus. Granted the show has been off the air for over 10 years and few people care anymore but that shouldn't matter when correcting errors, and this is an error. Any comments? Jaguar766 (talk) 21:56, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The character and the common name (WP:COMMONNAME is relevant here) is Horatio and this was an undiscussed move. The article even says H is a nickname. Reilly of the Unveiled please open a requested move and wait for consensus if you believe it should be changed. Star Mississippi 00:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
