Merger proposal

[edit]

Seems to me that since the article even says "Helsinki Commission" in the first sentence, then the article itself should be called "Helsinki Commission", rather than the ambiguous "HELCOM", which should be made a redirect. --BlueSquadronRaven 18:20, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baltic Marine Environment Protection CommissionHELCOM – Although the official name of this organization is Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission, it is more commonly known as HELCOM. The article was originally created as HELCOM and moved then to Helsinki Commission. The rationale then was that HELCOM is ambiguous (which it is not). As, vice versa, Helsinki Commission is an ambiguous term, the article was moved to its current title. However, it seems that HELCOM is more appropriate name per WP:TITLE.
