Guy of Dampierre makes reference to his being defeated and captured by John I of Avesnes in 1253 at the Battle of Walcheren.
John I of Avesnes, on the other hand, makes reference to him defeating and capturing Guy of Dampierre in 1253 at the Battle of West-Capelle.
