A fact from George Davenport appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 8 May 2008, and was viewed approximately 1,025 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the present-day city of Davenport, Iowa is named after George Davenport, a 19th century American frontiersman, trader and US Army officer?
As I understand it, again reading over WP:RED, red links are only discouraged when they are to "non-notable" people, places, etc. I've created the articles in question, although I don't understand the problem of adding links even if the articles themselves don't yet exist. In fact, the vast majority of the articles I've created through Wikipedia:Articles for creation have been through red links. 71.184.49.20 (talk) 23:38, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well thank you for creating them, I just personally don't like a bunch of links to non-pages. Perhaps you'd also like to create an account? Ctjf83Talk23:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
