Why does this redirect to one of his shows?

Things I cut, and a few more suggestions

[edit]

Just finished a copy edit, and thought I'd explain a few things I cut:

  • "The city was in the deep south and Povenmire grew to understand how natives of the area acted.[1] "

I couldn't see why this one was in here: it could go back in if someone can account for its relevance.

  • "Povenmire also has a cat named Sprocket, who disappears every say to "live a double life" with the neighbors in an attempt to get second helpings of meals.[2] Occasionally, his band and fellow cartoonists, including Larry Stone, stay over in his homestead.[3] His favorite movie is The Incredibles and is a fan of Spongebob Squarepants, which he finds "funny."[4]"

Having a cat, having friends over to stay, and thinking Spongebob is funny didn't seem remarkable enough to me for encyclopedia inclusion.

I'd suggest a rewrite of the lead section, too, to focus more on the impact of his work rather than covering every stage of his life. Otherwise, looking good! Well done to all the article contributors. Gonzonoir (talk) 15:37, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll check into it all. The Flash {talk} 16:21, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Povenmire's TikTok

[edit]

The sentence "Povenmire often reacts to and interacts with young artists and creators, giving them advice and encouragement, while also providing behind-the-scenes information and debunking fan theories about his various projects, including Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murphy's Law and more." which has 2 citation needed tags could theoretically be sourced to his Youtube channel in which Povenmire also posts some of his TikToks to as YouTube shorts. However I think this might qualify as OR as these videos simply showcase these things but don't actually explicitly say he's doing that. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:25, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Povenmire did NOT create the Minions

[edit]

There's a meme on TikTok that Povenmire created the Minions (movie) or had otherwise worked on it. This isn't true. If you see any allusions to working on the Minions franchise, they are vandalism.

Povenmire informally addresses this on his social media, if you want to see proof, check my citations.[1][2][3][4] R. J. Dockery (talk) 22:32, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And here's a current FB reel:

I noticed that currently, the image in use is to say the least, not very good.

I saw that this picture exists, and I know it's older than the current one, but I think it's better, because you can actually see his face properly in this one.

Looking through the article history, I see that some people tried putting the better image in there and got reverted. Why is that? QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 17:03, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I flipped it back to the halfway decent and not much older image as shown. I came to this article from the thread on bad photos on Wikipediocracy. Yngvadottir (talk) 12:26, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Povenmire YouTube channel relevance

[edit]

Why is Dan Povenmire's YouTube channel included in his infobox? His career is almost entirely made of his voice acting and production career - not sure what relevance there is in dedicating an entire section to his personal YouTube channel, regardless of any high subscriber count he may have on the platform. It seems unnecessary to me, and I'd consider removing it or putting it somewhere else on the page. Aagarrido (talk) 06:55, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Father of the minions

[edit]

Dan Povenmire is famously known as the creator of the minions and is working on an upcoming episode of Phineas and Ferb with the minions as well as working on Despicable me 4 ShinoUltimate (talk) 23:01, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dan had said himself several times that he is NOT the creator nor has anything to do with the creation of the Minions 2603:90C8:500:D1A0:51A3:77BA:26B3:230 (talk) 23:07, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of his Looney Tunes work

[edit]

One thing missing from this article is mention that Povenmire directed a pair of Looney Tunes shorts in 2003 as part of a planned series of theatrical shorts that were scrubbed following the box office failure of Looney Tunes: Back in Action with the few competed shorts (listed here) being released as DVD bonus features and such. Though not his most significant work (obviously), the complete absence of any mention at all is puzzling. oknazevad (talk) 11:15, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think the reason for this is that Warner Bros. (presumably) did such a great job of scrubbing the shorts and pretending they never happened, that nowadays there's a lack of secondary sources about them. There are passing references to his involvement with the franchise, such as his Emmy biography, but nothing very specific, at least from a quick Google. Tvfunhouse (talk) 14:26, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call a public release "scrubbing". Sure, they may not be treated as highlights of the franchise, but they are part of it. oknazevad (talk) 18:37, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
-- which is irrelevant to whether or not they should (or can) be added to Dan's article. My point is that there is such insufficient coverage of the shorts and his involvement that it might be tough to cite. Tvfunhouse (talk) 22:27, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
