Etymology

[edit]

Circipania [...]. The name derives from Latin circum (around) and Pane (the Peene River). If the name had derived from Latin circum, it would have been *Circumpania rather. It is much more plausible that circi- comes from West Slavic črez(ъ) (across, through, on the other side of). In any case, sources are welcome. Btw. -pania comes from the Slavic name of the river which is Pěna, or perhaps from its Lechitic (Polish?) version: Piana (with Lechitic umlaut; it means: foam). 31.11.243.147 (talk) 09:26, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
