Cerrado does mean 'closed' in portuguese (at least according to my portuguese-speaking friends). Cerrado does mean 'closed' in Spanish, but apparently has no meaning in Portuguese. Matthias5 16:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cerrado...1 cuja passagem ou abertura foi obstruída; fechado [closed]...

Houaiss Dictionary. Are you sure your friends speak Portuguese? Macgreco 20:10, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aurélio dictionary: cerrado... 1. Fechado... Aurélio gives 10 other meanings for "cerrado", and Houaiss has 15. You are right about Spanish, though. Macgreco 20:20, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This sentence:

"However, this extension is still insufficient and more conservation units need to be created for the protection of the bio-diversity that is still preserved."

is simply an editorial comment. Editorial comments are inappropriate in encyclopedias. NCdave (talk) 14:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization

[edit]

Why is the word cerrado always capitalized here? We don't capitalize other biomes and ecoregions -- svanna, tundra, etc. The capitalization seems illogical.190.107.163.17 (talk) 21:04, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The usage on this article is very inconsistent, but my impression is that Cerrado should always be capitalized because it's a proper noun. That is, the Cerrado is a specific part of South America in the way that the Kalahari or the Sahel or the Highveld are specific parts of Africa. Now, there are some other uses of the word cerrado in Portuguese as well, but this article is about what they call o Cerrado. (My source for this is the Portuguese Wikipedia page on the subject.) Please correct me if I'm wrong! Q·L·1968 21:27, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lede rewrite

[edit]

The paragraph on biodiversity in the beginning of the article should be rewritten by someone knowledgeable about the subject. IRN-Dumas (talk) 23:32, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
