Comparison to Madonna

[edit]

How come there is no discussion on this talk page, and no history for this page either?

I do not know who added the information comparing Madonna and Anita Mui undert the Trivia section but per both of your suggestion, I deleted it since some part is covered under the music section. I am not trying to remove information that people added. I am doing this in good faith since Wikipedia guidelines discouraged Trivia section. (Luckpeace 19:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Suggest deleting unsupported comments re Madonna in Trivia section, as the point is already made (albeit more briefly) in the section "Music career". Fayenatic london 14:46, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Having taken the liberty of doing what Fayenatic suggested, I don't think it's really relevant to the article to have a bits of information in the trivia section about her comparison to Madonna. As it is anyway, comparing her to Madonna is taking too much of a Western-centric viewpoint. Anita was one of the greatest stars in HK history, and I find it a little demeaning to having to keep comparing HK's stars to Western ones. However, on another level, I think we can draw a relationship between Madonna and Anita, as yes, they may both have a similar status in their respective countries, and yes, they are both popular, wealthy and etc; but since that's pretty much just a matter of opinion, I don't think we really need to put it in the article. It's just not objective nor factual. That's just my opinion though. With that being said, if you really do want to highlight their similarities and differences, do it properly, not like the half-hearted attempt that I cleaned up. The family had 4 children, not 5

[edit]

This article says Mui was the youngest daughter of five children. Most of the other sources I've seen say she was the youngest of four: http://archives.muimusic.com/englishnews.htm http://www.answers.com/topic/anita-mui — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.35.172.146 (talk) 04:18, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removed this one out

[edit]

I removed this one out. I can't say how factual this is. Benjwong (talk) 06:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"She had one elder sister and two brothers. Before she was born, her father left the family and later her mother moved in with a boyfriend. Mui and her siblings hoped that their father would look after his children. However, Mui and her family later discovered he was already married. Mui told a local magazine that her mother became very temperamental from that point and always took it out on them. Mui said that she had been desperately trying to get away from her family."
I know for a fact her mother is a pretty nasty person. After Anita died, her will explicitly said $50,000 HK per month would be given to her mum as "living expenses" (average monthly wage in hk is $10,000). But her mum decided to file a million dollar lawsuit to prove the will false in order to receive her whole fortune at once (noted here her mum is quite infamous for gambling habits). I can find sources on the legal battle. What I don't have at the moment is reliable source on her childhood. Benjwong (talk) 16:04, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion About Final Concert and Final Song

[edit]

This Wikipedia page says, "Her final symbolic act was to "marry the stage", which was accompanied by her hit "Sunset Melody" (夕陽之歌) as she exited the stage for the final time. Her very last song performed on stage was "Cherish When We Meet Again" (珍惜再會時), a rendition of The Manhattans' "Let's Just Kiss And Say Goodbye"."

Which was her last song? "Sunset Melody" [aka "Song of Sunset"] or "Cherish When We Meet Again"? It says she left the stage for the final time during "Sunset...", so she couldn't have returned to sing "Cherish..." I think it is meant to imply that "Sunset Melody" played but that she didn't perform it. But this appears to be the video of her performing the song at her final concert, and she did sing most of the song, just leaving right at the end of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3dP-8Ti6x8&feature=related — Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.56.192.142 (talk) 11:35, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
