Quality Review...

[edit]

General comments now that we've got this to a certain level. I've made a few changes, and I'd like comments on the below rather than an instant change...

  • Greekchat (and other boards like that) are horrible as sources. Someone else has to have the information about the Squirrel or it should be cut back to what is done in other sources.
  • For the vimeo, I think the location should be the page at Alpha Gamma Delta's website that includes it. (https://alphagammadelta.org/about/history/)
  • The fraternity magazine entries should be changed to cite magazine....

naraht hey, I've made the edits you suggested. How does it look now? originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 02:45, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better, you may also want to look at what I added at User_talk:Jfthompson_agd#Additional_Notables and then reorganize that section.Naraht (talk) 14:15, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
naraht Done! Thanks for finding that. Now what? originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 01:18, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Right now, I think the next focus is getting the years for the chapters in List of Alpha Gamma Delta chapters added.Naraht (talk) 05:53, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
naraht I'm going to ping Jfthompson agd for that since I wouldn't be able to get that information without googling every single chapter, but isn't that a separate article anyway? (Also, on the subject of pings, would you like me to stop pinging you when I reply? Just checking! originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 06:09, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing Jfthompson agd is an employee of the National Office, right? I'm fine either way on the pinging, I've got this in my watchlist. Yes it is a separate article, that's because I'm drawing a blank on what to do with the AGD article for now. :) As for the chapter dates, someone did the work at http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55207 , but that's not referencable by Wikipedia, but *very useful* in getting something you can verify. I've actually developed a trick to help me use Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities. In the 1977 edition, the chapter lists in the Manual are in the form of year letters school (and sometimes) enrollment, so a search in google books for "1904 alpha syracuse" gives a match that starts out

Chapter roll: 1904 Alpha, Syracuse 1905 Beta, Wisconsin 1906 Gamma, Wesley an (1912) 1908 Delta, Minnesota 1908 Epsilon, Kentucky 1908 Zeta, Ohio 1908 Eta, DePauw 1908 Theta, Goucher (1950) 1909 Iota, Washington 1912 Kappa

This means that Wesleyan went inactive in 1912 and Goucher in 1950, which can be added. I then searched for ""washington 1912 kappa allegheny" (I was able to look up that Kappa was at allegheny and that gave me more. Of course with the list to go from on greekchat, you can advance a lot more. I'll see if I can get through the end of the single letters... (And worst comes to worse, I own 8 different editions of Baird's, though the 1991 edition is the last they did and some groups had their chapter lists repeated from the 1977)
And then of course there is the issue of getting the exact date for charterings and recharterings (and when you get really into it, dates of inactivity)Naraht (talk) 14:30, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And some referenced information on the order and design of the chapter greek letters might be worthwhile. Enough at least so that if a reader found out that there was a new chapter chartering at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville that it would be Beta Something (or what it would actually be). We can probably as Ms Jfthompson agd.
Okay, I'll add some of that, so back to the original point - is this article itself good enough to be moved up to B-class? originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 20:37, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it, I've made the change, I've never been best at class evaluation.Naraht (talk) 12:26, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken the opportunity to clean up syntax for the sortable date fields on the list of AGD chapters page. There are about a dozen unclear dates, where I'd ask that HQ would provide answers. See the List's Talk page. Jax MN (talk) 17:07, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help from AGD national

[edit]

I replaced the Greekchat citation with the actual magazine citation for the Skiorous thing and have emailed Naraht some info on chapter naming (which isn't very logical, but accurate). Let me know how else I can help! Jfthompson agd (talk) 14:54, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Given that you fall under WP:PAID, direct editing of the AGD article is probably not the ideal way, instead dropping text on this page and saying "This should be added to the article!" (like telling us where the references are for Skiorous!) and having someone else do the editing fits things the best. :)
My dream list of things you could contribute are as follows. (You've got enough edits to upload images, go for as large a file as possible)
  • A larger image of the Armorial, preferably in png format.
  • Image of the Sisterhood pin for AGD
  • Image of the pledge pin for AGD
  • Images of the equivalent things for Theta Sigma Upsilon.
  • Dates of closure and rechartering for any chapters to which they apply.
  • Confirmation the two AGD sisters competing in Miss America 2017 are correct (https://www.greekrank.com/sorority-members-competing-miss-america-2017/)
  • Source that 20 of the 26 NPC Sororities have Alumni Initiation (the ref in the article on that is shaky)
  • Getting AGD to sign a contract with Archeios.com so that all of the copies of the Quarterly are online. :)
That's all that I can come up with off the top of my head.Naraht (talk) 20:10, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is jfthompson--I am so sorry I'm just now seeing this! I no longer work at HQ but can get this information (and am still a member). Where would the images need to be sent? 2600:1700:7406:5B50:F8DE:5F23:81AF:B8F1 (talk) 00:18, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
