Turnout
[edit]Registered voters: 332,576. Population: 1,222,442 (estimate in Equatorial Guinea article). 50+ % population older than 19 years (Demographics of Equatorial Guinea article). What laws govern voter registration, when only fracture of eligible population is registered for vote? If someone knows answer (best with reference), it would be nice to add it to article. As of now it looks weird.Pavlor (talk) 15:42, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- The issue here seems to be the population estimate. The Equatorial Guinea article quotes the National press release by the government that states the population is over 1.2 million. However all other sources (one, Two, Three) show a much lower number around the 800,000 range. This Source here actually about half way down the page mentions some opposition complaining that the government was keeping them off the voter registration lists, it could be that they are just keeping them off the books, or many not even bothering to register anymore. I do not know if I can trust the Article released by the EQG government, but cant see what they would gain by over reporting their population. Sputink (talk) 20:48, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. Talk page of Equatorial Guinea article reveals older official number (2012) was even 1.6 million. I hope they have more reliable vote counting than population counting, which is strange...Pavlor (talk) 21:34, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- The Same source quotes 1.6 million in 2010. Sooo, I do not think they really know how many people live there. Also we are forgetting to account for non-citizens. However, i do not think there are that many. I may be wrong. Sputink (talk) 21:49, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Changing Name to 2016 Equatoguinean presidential election
[edit]Equatoguinean is the proper demonym for something in Equatorial Guinea, and therefore I think the name of this article should be changed to 2016 Equatoguinean presidential election. Melvindillinger (talk) 04:59, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
