Assessment

[edit]

I'm currently unsure as to how to manually start the bot which produces the assessment tables. No great rush, but it would good to have an assessment table as soon as possible. Claritas § 21:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lets not use an image of God, ok?

[edit]

I recommend removing the picture of God in this project. In Christianity, Islam, & Judaism, making any type of image of God is unacceptable. The source for this is Exodus 20:4-6. Just looking to make you more credible here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Korny09 (talkcontribs) 16:32, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since that picture has survived over 500 years without being suppressed as blasphemous, I see no reason to remove it from the project page. —C.Fred (talk) 16:36, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about Islam and Judaism, but in Catholicism and most of Christianity, we encourage the use of images of God (the anti-picture movement is a heresy we call Iconoclasm). CanonLawJunkie (talk) 16:06, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Matt 1:13-16 the killing of all Bethlehem’s firstborn by Herod to terminate a competitive prince was not stopped by God – however in Acts 12:21-23 Herod is struck down and eaten by worms because he didn’t give glory to God. I think if a God was upset at using his image he could stick up for himself. 178.109.174.194 (talk) 09:38, 8 May 2011 (UTC)gossamer 8 May 2011[reply]

Ten years later, I agree with Korny09 that the representation of God here as Zeus/Jupiter or whoever, makes this project not-credible. I also that observe that in the years since his proposal was rejected, the project has been mostly inactive. Apparently God did stick up for himself? Any image inherently materializes, localizes, specifies, and racializes a being whom even Plato and Aristotle understood as pure spirit, and immaterial, as did Paul and the apostles and of course all the Jewish prophets before them, whom this project apparently wants to ignore, supersede, and remove from discussion. It is not an accurate representation, and even catholic theology considers the image merely an "aid", not a representation. By the way, I've heard that these days Jesus is black, or korean. Is that true?? The notion that "iconoclasm" is a heresy, is a merely a graeco-roman POV. I'm going to remove the image, and replace it with NOTHING, until there is a consensus based on verifiable scholarship as to what God actually, really looks like. Does anyone know? Has this been proven anywhere, and reliably documented?? Jaredscribe (talk) 19:04, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RfC on Logos

[edit]

An editor has proposed a complete rewrite of Logos, an article of interest to this project. Please see Talk:Logos#Proposed Re-Write. -- Radagast3 (talk) 13:22, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance is urgently needed at Catholic–Eastern Orthodox theological differences. There are only two editors working there at the moment — one Orthodox and one Catholic, as best I can tell — and they are unable to reach a consensus on various issues. The area of greatest concern at the moment has to do with the Eastern Orthodox view of the nature of the physical, material body. The Orthodox editor is citing sources which (in his opinion) promote a view that the material body did not exist until after the fall of man and will not exist after the resurrection. The Catholic editor is questioning this interpretation, but the Orthodox editor is standing firm and calling the objections edit-warring. (See Talk:Catholic–Eastern Orthodox theological differences#Lossky on Adam and Eve having no flesh before the Fall.) Without input from more editors — especially some who are knowledgeable Orthodox, or at least Orthodoxy-knowledgeable — I really don't see any prospect for a consensus that can be relied upon as fairly and properly representing either settled Orthodox dogma or the spectrum of recognized Orthodox theologians. Pleas have been posted on the talk pages of some other relevant projects, and I've also gone to an outside wiki (orthodoxwiki.org) to request help, but without success so far. Theology articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Theology articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Help is need at the bad faith article's theology section.

[edit]

Help is need at the bad faith article's theology section. This is especially the case as to the gradual convergence shown in the etymologies and translation and commentaries regarding Double hearted, double minded, and male fide. PPdd (talk) 16:31, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recent changes were made to citations templates (such as {{citation}}, {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}...). In addition to what was previously supported (bibcode, doi, jstor, isbn, ...), templates now support arXiv, ASIN, JFM, LCCN, MR, OL, OSTI, RFC, SSRN and Zbl. Before, you needed to place |id={{arxiv|0123.4567}} (or worse |url=http://arxiv.org/abs/0123.4567), now you can simply use |arxiv=0123.4567, likewise for |id={{JSTOR|0123456789}} and |url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/0123456789|jstor=0123456789.

The full list of supported identifiers is given here (with dummy values):

{{cite journal |author=John Smith |year=2000 |title=How to Put Things into Other Things |journal=Journal of Foobar |volume=1 |issue=2 |pages=3–4 |arxiv=0123456789 |asin=0123456789 |bibcode=0123456789 |doi=0123456789 |jfm=0123456789 |jstor=0123456789 |lccn=0123456789 |isbn=0123456789 |issn=0123456789 |mr=0123456789 |oclc=0123456789 |ol=0123456789 |osti=0123456789 |rfc=0123456789 |pmc=0123456789 |pmid=0123456789 |ssrn=0123456789 |zbl=0123456789 |id={{para|id|____}} }}

Obviously not all citations needs all parameters, but this streamlines the most popular ones and gives both better metadata and better appearances when printed. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 03:25, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia currently has no article titled lay theologian, although currently 15 articles link to that non-existent article.

(To one accustomed, as I am, the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics, it borders on incomprehensible to me that nothing has been posted to this present talk page since March. I'm used to the idea a posting appears on a WikiProject's talk page every half-hour or so. Is anyone alive here??) Michael Hardy (talk) 04:22, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

May I add: What exactly is a lay theologian? Does the term mean:
  • A theologian who is a lay person in the sense of never having been ordained to the clergy (I think that's the older meaning of the term "lay person"); or
  • A person who writes on theology without having professional qualifications in that field (the more modern meaning of the term lay person, I think)?

Category clash

[edit]

Hi there - I just noticed that there is a category clash between WikiProject Theology and WikiProject Theoretical Linguistics. The category in question is Category:WPTL articles which currently lists articles from both WikiProjects. I'm going to create two separate categories and send the current one to CfD, so feel free to revert/comment at the CfD if you object. Thanks — Mr. Stradivarius 14:44, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would anyone like to take a look at Talk:Brahman#Brahman in Early Buddhism? I've made a suggestion there for rewriting a section of the Brahman article. My rewrite wouldn't produce anything like a complete overview (it was cobbled together from what few sources I could find on short notice), but I think it's far superior to the current section, which seems to consist almost completely of original research. --Phatius McBluff (talk) 19:58, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request for input: "Historic Baptist" teaching on Spirit baptism

[edit]

Could editors knowledgeable about historical Baptist teachings on the baptism with the Holy Spirit please contribute to the relevant section of that article. An editor recently created this section but its sources seem to be drawn primarily from Landmark Baptist points of view. It would be great if we could have information from good, reliable sources representing the full range of non-charismatic Baptist churches for this section. WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

This is in serious need of some expert theological attention. I'm having a hard time seeing the term as anything beyond one fellow's conflict with one other group which may or may not have expressed ideas that the wider theological community objects to. I'm finding very little footprint for it other than a bunch of apologetics sites which I suspect of copying from WP. I just don't have the time right now to dig into a theological conflict that is outside my own tradition, but from what I can see the discussion hinges on points requiring expert understanding. Proposed merger of Philosophical theology into Philosophy of religion, 16 October

[edit]

The article about "Philosophical theology" presents an intellectual argument put forward seemingly largely by one individual Mortimer J. Adler, about the nature of the philosophy of religion - attempting to draw a distinction between what he calls "philosophical theology" by religious outsiders, such as Aristotle, and Natural theology, by insiders. Its most appropriate place would likely be as a much-contracted entry in the philosophy of religion article (and possibly as a mentioned criticism on the Natural theology page. As it stands, having an article entitled Philosophical theology provides significant scope for confusion with the Philosophy of religion and Religious philosophy pages to the extent that casual readers could readily be confused.
