Elevations of the Adirondack High Peaks

[edit]

Seeking some advice here before I go ahead and edit ~50 articles; I am a new editor to mountain topics. I am currently improving the various articles related to the Adirondack High Peaks and don't have a satisfactory answer for handling the elevations and other geographic information on the mountains. Only one of the peaks, Marcy, has an NGS data sheet available online. I wish to avoid using peakbagger.com, due to its questionable status as a reliable source. The WikiProject guideline recommends using NAD88 elevations, but I have not found such a list in other sources. The Adirondack 46ers website lists the peaks, but provides no source. GNIS provides significantly different elevations for many of the mountains from both peakbagger.com and other lists, and I do not trust it. The most reliable source I can find is a list compiled by the Adirondack Mountain Club in the 1980s for the High peaks Trails guide book, which is regularly revised and reprinted for hikers. I own the 2023 edition; the 2004 edition can be viewed here on page 268. This list was based on photogrammetry surveys in the 1950s, which are NAD29 elevations, but the list has been reprinted in other reliable sources, such as Laura and Guy Waterman's book Forest and Crag (page 674). The club does not believe that more recent surveys of the peaks have been accurate, and I am inclined to use their list, unless there is a reason to avoid it for another. In the absence of any feedback, I will be making the proposed changes. Rocfan275 (talk) 00:19, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory articles

[edit]

Yablonoi Mountains and Kontalaksky Golets have contradictory information: the infobox on the former says that the range's high point is the latter, with an elevation of 2519 meters; however, the infobox on the latter says that its elevation is 1706 meters. Following the provided coordinate links and choosing the Google Maps Terrain option suggests that the 1706 claim is correct; however, I have known Google Maps' Terrain data to be wrong before. Someone who knows more than me should figure out the truth and edit accordingly. - LucasBrown 04:34, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clingmans Dome was officially renamed to it’s former Cherokee name, Kuwohi on September 18, 2024. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 18:31, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’d like anyone who knows foreign languages; especially those with a non-Latin script; to update the name. We also still need it updated in Danish, Cebuano, and Polish as well. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 16:36, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Spanish Wikipedia also needs updated. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 17:58, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I managed to post a message using Google Translate on the Spanish Wikipedia’s version of the village pump. They have renamed their article to Kuwohi. Danish, Cebuano, and Polish still need updated. I have tentatively contacted an administrator on the Polish Wikipedia who just so happens to speak English too; waiting to hear back. I have also tentatively contacted someone here on this WikiProject who speaks Danish, but again, I’m waiting to hear back. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 17:02, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also; non-Latin scripts generally need updated. Anyone who understands a couple Arabic script languages and/or Russian: please update the article on those. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 17:03, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Colorado 14ers per new measurements

[edit]

As per https://geodesy.noaa.gov/web/news/moving-mountains.shtml and NAPGD22, several 14ers in Colorado have had their heights changed. Are there any objections to me updating List of Colorado fourteeners and Fourteener per these new measurements? Thanks! KilimAnnejaro (talk) 02:45, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
