Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Internet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Internet. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Internet|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Internet. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

This article is about an insignificant passing internet meme that, like many others, fails the general notability guidelines. Every source in use here is from a tabloid, borderline unreliable source (save for Rolling Stone) that talks about a brief internet trend rather the series itself. To go into specifics, Daily Dot and Dexerto are tabloids that should be used with caution and cannot demonstrate notability per WP:RSP, IMBD is user-generated content and is unreliable as a result per WP:IMBD, and Times Now is an undiscussed source, but due to WP:NEWSORGINDIA it doesn't look good. And even if these sources were reliable, they are mostly just showcasing social media posts and don't actually hold any critical commentary. The show also fails WP:SUSTAINED, since every source was published in a short time frame, and nothing new has been written about the subject since as found by my WP:BEFORE searches. λ NegativeMP1 20:33, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, per well argued nom. There appears to be a dearth of WP:INDEPTH WP:RELIABLE sources on the topic of the article (and not a tangentially related meme [which also doesn't pass the bar of WP:N]). Only the Rolling Stone article meets all the criteria that are needed to contribute to WP:GNG, and we can't hang an article on one source. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 20:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Does not meet WP:ORG. Has been marked as problematic since 2020. Just summarizes the routine business activities of the company and its main offering. The awards do not contribute to notability as they lack articles themselves. I can't find sources with significant coverage of this company, like its particular influence on citizen engagement. 331dot (talk) 13:37, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What I suggest you look into and are most welcome to integrate in the page:
The first two sources are primary sources- users of your company's offering. The third seems to be a directory listing with a description. The people powered Chile story might be okay, but that's only one. The rating is not as it's not significant coverage. The company's own reports are primary sources as well. 331dot (talk) 14:41, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot IRCAI = International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) under the auspices of UNESCO, not just some directory listing website :) Sören3300 (talk) 14:46, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but it's still not significant coverage that contributes to notability. Personally I never heard of IRCAI(not that's it's required I have heard of it) 331dot (talk) 14:47, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The World Summit Awards have an article, so that works towards contributing towards notability(but the other awards listed should just be removed as they don't have articles). The award the founder received is for the founder, not the company itself. That's still two- we usually look for three with in-depth coverage. 331dot (talk) 14:53, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Significant violations of WP:NOTCHANGELOG, and I have reason to believe it also violates WP:UNDUE due to the article's documenting of all versions of Thunderbird, including every single beta version. Without the table, there is not enough content to justify the article's existence, at least currently. It also has longstanding issues, including a lack of reliable, high-quality, secondary sources as almost every single source is just a link to Mozilla's own release notes, which is in incredibly heavy primary source territory. I feel like so much focus has been put on filling out the table that it has been to the detriment of the article as a whole. - Evelyn Harthbrooke (leave a message · contributions) 07:00, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notability unclear from sources in article. The news articles containing him are articles written about stories he was involved in as matters of Catholic interest, but do not show that he himself is notable. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 20:13, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: Meets WP:RELPEOPLE. Also, there are enough WP:SIGCOV to establish notability. The article is net positively good, and I don't need to do a source search. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 20:46, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How does it meet WP:RELPEOPLE? He is not a head of a major religion; he has not played an important role in a significant religious event that has itself received considerable coverage; has not made contributions to the philosophy of religion; and has not been recognized as an authoritative source on religious matters or writings. Neither is he a bishop or head of a large Protestant congregation. He is an associate pastor.
Most of the coverage including him does not point out or demonstrate his notability as a person. I myself am a Catholic priest who has been mentioned or featured in a few Catholic news articles, but I am in no way notable enough for a Wiki article. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 20:59, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I don't see a WP:GNG pass (and WP:RELPEOPLE doesn't apply here). The closest I can get is two articles from Catholic News Agency (here, here), but we need multiple that are independent of the subject and each other, plus these aren't necessarily WP:SIGCOV of him. The rest of the sources are affiliated or unreliable blog-type sources. Dclemens1971 (talk) 02:58, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment:: Do we all agree to redirect to List of American Catholic priests per WP:ATD? Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 04:15, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why it would be an appropriate redirect; no one who might be searching for him would be served by a redirection to an incomplete list that couldn't even include him. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 13:54, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also fail to see the value of redirection as suggested. There are tens of thousands of Catholic priests in the U.S. and only a small fraction of them are notable. Thus, per WP:CSC, the selection criterion for this list is Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own article in the English Wikipedia, and Moses would not qualify as not qualifying for a standalone article. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:51, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete for lack of WP:SIGCOV and not passing WP:MUSICBIO. None of the current sources (Catholic News agency reports) are independent of the Church, and I don’t see any secular reviews. If there was a review in either America or similar reliable religious media, that would go far to showing notability. I also don’t see any touring as a musician outside of Eastern Texas/Louisiana. Normally, I’d advocate for keeping or merging such articles - my record on AfD is pretty much on the inclusionist side of religious articles. However, I find myself agreeing with Dclemens1971 as to the lack of utility in a redirect to a larger list. If you find and better sources, please ping me. No significant coverage in independent reliable sources to establish notability. The only reference in the article is Business Insider profile for Everspark, the company he founded. That source however, is just a blurb from Everspark itself. See also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Everspark. Whpq (talk) 03:48, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your feedback regarding the article. While I understand your concern about notability, I believe this page has enough reliable coverage to merit its existence on Wikipedia. The Business Insider profile provides insight into Everspark, and while it may have some promotional aspects, it serves as a starting point for understanding the company’s significance.
To strengthen the article further, I will look for additional independent sources to enhance its credibility and improve the overall tone. Your input is valuable, and I'm committed to making this page meet Wikipedia's standards. Aliumair435 (talk) 17:07, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: An unsourced essay (no inline citations), feels like a high school term paper. Not for wikipedia. Oaktree b (talk) 19:37, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Draftify: there's tons of sourcing available for this topic, but this brand new article as it stands isn't in the best of shape for an encyclopedia. However, the article isn't entirely junk either, some of it is actually well-written in encyclopedic tone and plausibly sourceable, which makes this a WP:PRESERVE situation. Take for example the "mental health" section:

Excessive use of social media has been linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and loneliness among teenagers. The constant exposure to idealized images and curated lives on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat can lead to body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, and FOMO (fear of missing out).

Deleting would de-motivate a relatively new good-faith editor and throw away some of their good work, whereas draftifying would give them a chance to re-work it if desired and seek feedback from peers. Left guide (talk) 04:12, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A previous AfD last year decided that this article should be merged into MrBeast Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Tyson (2nd nomination), and was recreated this year by a user with only 54 edits total [4] While the misconduct allegations that have come out since that discussion have signficiantly enhanced the coverage of this individual, I still think that it should be deleted/redirected for a number of reasons. 1. This individual has basically only been covered in the context of coming out as transgender and misconduct allegations against them, which is entirely within the context of their relationship with MrBeast (WP:NOTINHERITED), and given that their relationship with MrBeast has ended it seems unlikely that they will get any followup coverage in the future. Both aspects are already adequately covered in the main MrBeast article. While this isn't technically a BLP1E, it's not exactly far off. 2. This article since its recreation has been a massive target for serious BLP-violating vandalism which continually comes back despite having been semi-protected numerous times over the last few months and seems unlikely to abate in the near future. Wikipedia has a duty of care towards BLP subjects and I do not think this page currently serves a useful purpose. Hemiauchenia (talk) 03:19, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For clarity I am fine with the article being merged as suggested by others below. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:37, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge This is a difficult one to judge. It is very close to BLP1E. I don't know if any (official) charges were made against the subject? The reason I ask is that if there are criminal charges then this may drag on and result in further information being added. Obviously, WP:CRYSTAL applies as to what might happen in the future. For now, I think this is as close as you can get to BLP1E and the article should be merged to MrBeast. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knitsey (talkcontribs)
As far as I am aware, there are no criminal charges. Hemiauchenia (talk) 14:04, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(Sorry for forgetting to sign, I sometimes forget when desktop editing)
I've had a look around for anything else about the subject and can't find anything other than the recent accusations against her. It should be noted, that not all American sources are available in the UK. Knitsey (talk) 14:15, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge? Probably? I was expecting this to be a keep but adding "-beast -mrbeast" to the Google searches returns only non-RS stuff. Some of it is people involved with Tyson having their say, which is fair enough, but most of it is cynical drama content and other worthless slop. However, I do have a warning: Merging this will not stop the disruption. It will only move it to the merged article. We may even get an increase in disruption as the content would be in a higher profile article. That said, if it should be merged then we can't let that stop us. --DanielRigal (talk) 14:09, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This articles content is basically already entirely covered at MrBeast#LGBT Issues (in the personal views section, where their gender transition is discussed) and MrBeast#Ava Kris Tyson (in the controversies section which covers the misconduct allegations), so I don't see how redirecting this article will realistically increase disruption if the content is already there. ava uses she/her. 82.3.200.164 (talk) 00:49, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: Any content in the page is merged into the MrBeast page already, and in the scope of BLP, I don't think it's great, although the semi protection has worked, so not sure about the BLP section, but given it's not adding much value given most content is already in the MrBeast page, I think it could be deleted. Reliability of sources is questionable, and otherwise unsuitable to be considered SIGCOV. Especially concerning given that this is sufficiently BLP-adjacent that the policy likely binds us. Even worse, the article text actually only bears the barest resemblance to the contents of the nearest footnotes, if even that, and the tone is such that even had we the sources to write a proper article, we may be best to start from scratch. The bluelinked hosts preclude A7, but perhaps G11 should be seriously considered. Alpha3031 (tc) 10:28, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter posts aren't helpful for notability purposes. The rest aren't even hotlinked, so I don't know what you want us to do with them. We don't speak the language. This is a wall of text that really does nothing for this discussion. Oaktree b (talk) 20:47, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I second that. It should be put in a collapsed template. This discussion was already bloated enough, by replies from Mihari Harukaze who unfortunately can't distinguish between a source about the subject, a source mentioning the subject and a source from the subject. Geschichte (talk) 07:44, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ja.wiki references collapsed per above suggestion. Left guide (talk) 08:21, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I am responding at the request of Left guide. Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

The book notes on pages 12: "In parallel, it was of great interest to self-proclaimed “media activist” Tsuda Daisuke that while an estimated one-third to one-half of Japanese computer users engaged with any form of social media, Twitter use had expanded dramatically between 2010 and 2012 as individuals sought alternative means by which to exchange written and visual information."

The book notes on pages 52–53: "As prominent (self-described) “media activist” Tsuda Daisuke writes about nn, its strength lies in its capacity to allow viewers to interact with presenters, and with one another, simultaneously. Always seated behind his laptop during broadcasts, Tsuda, who appears regularly on both television and radio as well as nn, practices what he preaches by engaging fluidly with both embodied and virtual interlocutors simultaneously during his media appearances. Tsuda’s frequent commentary resembles media scholar Kitada Akihiro’s theorization of participation in these rapid-fire online communities as being more about the “pleasure of the social communication itself ” than the topics being discussed."

The book notes on page 75: "For media activist Tsuda Daisuke, this potential defines his interest in interactive technologies; YouTube, NicoNico, and similar platforms can introduce a broad selection of events to a diverse national body and inspire them to protest, volunteer, or otherwise mobilize."

      2. Rodwell, Elizabeth A. (2015). Push the Button: Interactive Television and Collaborative Journalism in Japan (PhD thesis). Duke University. ProQuest 2001550937.

The PhD thesis notes on page 4: "Nonetheless, it was interesting to me to see the extent to which the mass media flirted with such individuals, offering more prominent figures such as Uesugi Takashi and Tsuda Daisuke6 regular hosting gigs on (usually BS channel) television programs, and radio stations."

The 6th footnote notes: "In this dissertation I will follow Japanese and anthropological convention when referring to Japanese individuals, and writing their last (family) names before their surnames. According to American convention, Tsuda Daisuke would be Daisuka Tsuda, as Tsuda is his “last” name."

The thesis notes on page 48: "As prominent media activist Tsuda Daisuke writes about NND, its strength lies in its capacity to allow viewers to interact with presenters, and with one another simultaneously. Always seated behind his laptop during broadcasts, Tsuda, who appears regularly on both television and radio as well as NND, practices what he preaches by engaging fluidly with both embodied and virtual commentators during his media appearances–if not on NND, then on Twitter."

The thesis notes on page 117: "From the perspective of prominent (and self-described) media activist Tsuda Daisuke, this capacity represents social media’s inherent strength; YouTube and UStream introduce a diverse selection of events to a diverse national body, whose members may be inspired to take action or become involved."

The thesis notes on page 134: "Thus, it was of great interest to Tsuda that while in 2010 an estimated 1/3 to 1/2 of Japanese computer users engaged social media in any way, Twitter use in particular expanded dramatically between 2010-2012, as individuals sought alternative means by which to exchange written and visual information."

The thesis notes on pages 137–138: "Referring back to the historical absence of a “kifu bunka” (donation culture) in Japan, Tsuda addresses what he believes is a culture in transition: “Korekara ‘kifu’ ga būmu ni naru,” (The ‘donation’ boom is coming) he titles a chapter in one of his recent books. Within his formulation ..., America’s donation culture is one worth emulating. While he praises services like the Japanese crowdfunding website Just Giving, his acquisitiveness about the potentials of a distinctly Japanese means to fundraising leads him to society’s widespread use of Suica cards, ... In the meantime, he acknowledges that social media has made political action easier, but, ..."

The thesis notes on page 140: "Our Planet TV had recently held an FPAJ press conference without suffering negative repercussions, as had the Tsuda Daisuke-affiliated political group “Democracy 2.0”–although both of these groups benefitted from and were somewhat insulated by the accumulated social capital of their most prominent representatives. Tsuda-san and Shiraiishi-san both represent a credible and high quality journalistic body of work, and their integrity generally unquestioned."

The thesis notes on page 160: "In another case, the prominent and self described “media activist” (media akutobisuto), Tsuda Daisuke– instantly recognizable by his platinum-dyed hair (kinpatsu) and sticker-covered laptop–maintains a public schedule of appearances on his website (http://tsuda.ru/); indeed his circulation as a product, and the circulation of his work is sufficient that they must be subcategorized on the basis of television, radio, publications, etc. Like most contemporary media activists, he tweets avidly (@tsuda), and was not only an early adopter of the medium, but a vocal proponent of its adoption as a means to circumvent the mainstream Japanese press."

The abstract notes: "The perspective of artistic director Daisuke Tsuda that understand the necessity of an approach to free up the age of deadlock, and that events as media have great power in that respect is examined. Tsuda may be called a hero of the Internet era, and his new ideas that fully utilize the media and his ability to take action such as reporting symposiums via Twitter have given him quite a reputation. As he composes music, his network is broad. Although his contact with the fields of art and design is not strong, requests for attending panel discussions with artists and designers wanting to hear his story are not few. The unusual matching of Tsuda and artists brought moments of new discoveries and learning experiences to both sides. Thus, journalists and the media should learn how to build relationships between the creativity of the artists and the reality at the venue."

As much as I think Harrison's writing about Wikipedia is insightful, I simply don't think he passes WP:NJOURNALIST. He's not really been the subject of significant coverage. I don't think interviews or reviews of his books in student newspapers (Student Life) are sigcov. The Fix interview might be significant coverage, but I am unfamiliar with the publication. 1A is a podcast interview, which I don't think counts for notability. The Salon, Slate and HuffPost links are just to his journalism and obviously don't count. The New America link is the description of an event that Harrison was participating in, and I don't think its sigcov either. The WashU entry is a "look what one of our alumni is up to" post and therefore it's not independent or sigcov. The Yahoo interview is part of the Yahoo for Creators program, which has an unclear level of editorial control from Yahoo itself, and may be published with little editorial oversight like WP:FORBESCON, but I'm not sure, and I think its status as significant coverage is questionable. Fails to meet WP:GNG. The largest review I found is still relatively tiny. There is simply insufficient SIGCOV to justify an article at all, with the previous AfD citing mere announcements. What was good enough for 2011 is no longer good enough for 2024. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:07, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The developer of this game is listed as a co-founder of Kixeye. IgelRM (talk) 19:16, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. I found a little more coverage of the game (here and here), which, while not exactly stellar, is sufficient to keep the article alongside the other sources. Cortador (talk) 10:08, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. WP:NOTTEMPORARY, what was good enough for 2011 is still good enough, unless there's a very specific guideline change that negates previous arguments. -Fangz (talk)
    • Also I found this academic article discussing the game. [9] and this Masters Thesis [10] -Fangz (talk)

  • Keep, Fangz is right; getting discussed by academics and featuring so heavily (extended text about the game, and a statement that it was one of two games that inspired the investigation) in an MSc elevates it beyond run-of-the-mill game, and gives notability. Elemimele (talk) 11:05, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, I was saying that the 2011 discussion was not up to 2024 standards, not that the article's notability suddenly "disappeared".
To call the new sources trivial mentions is putting it lightly, I simply don't agree it stacks up. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:01, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
