It is held by Zoroastrians of the Parsi communities in the area, mostly residing in Mumbai, Nashik and Pune and the southern Gujarat cities of Surat and Navsari. It is a Parsi occupational name for someone who was a master of his craft, from the English last name master.[1][2]
