[edit]- ^ /r/ is phonetically an alveolar flap [ɾ], alveolar trill [r] or alveolar approximant [ɹ] depending on the variety and speaker.
- ^ When preceding a vowel in word-initial positions, /w/ may occur as an allophone of /o/ and /u/, especially in loan words e.g. ꠅꠣꠖꠣ [wada] 'promise', ꠅꠤꠟꠤꠀꠝ [wiliam] 'William'.
- ^ Closer to fat in most British and Irish accents; closer to father in most North American, Australian and New Zealand accents.
