English: two 591-second exposures of the rings of Neptune were taken with the clear filter by the Voyager 2 wide-angle camera on Aug. 26, 1989 from a distance of 280,000 kilometers (175,000 miles). This PNG was converted from NASA's original TIFF with IrfanView, and differs from NASA's JPG version at File:Rings of Neptune PIA01997.jpg.
ImageMagick's report on difference between NASA's TIFF and NASA's JPG shows distortion:
The NASA website hosts a large number of images from the Soviet/Russian space agency, and other non-American space agencies. These are not necessarily in the public domain.
The SOHO (ESA & NASA) joint project implies that all materials created by its probe are copyrighted and require permission for commercial non-educational use. [3]
