Summary

Description
English: Life restoration of the British Jurassic ichthyosaur Leptonectes tenuirostris. While known from multiple seemingly near-complete skeletons, many of these are unfortunately composites or partially reconstructed. This illustration is based primarily on OUMNH J.10305, which has not been figured in its entirety but for which a table of measurements has been published.[1][2] Unillustrated postcranial regions were primarily filled in with the "Leaping Leptonectes[2] and the aberrantly long-snouted NHMUK 36182.[3] For the forefins, SCM 8372 and NHMUK R1127 were also referred to for restoration.[2] The angle of the tail bend was based on ANSP 17307.[4] The soft tissue outline is based on a combination of Hauffiopteryx,[5] Stenopterygius,[6][7] and Aegirosaurus.[8]
