Canting arms (cat, kit, kitten) of Keate of The Hoo, Hertfordshire (Keate baronets): Argent, three mountain cats passant in pale sable (Burke, Burnard, The General Armory, 1884, p.554). The manor of Hoo, in the parish of Kimpton, was held by the Hoo family from the C13. "Thomas Hoo died in 1650, the manor passing to his daughter Susannah Hoo and her husband Sir Jonathan Keate, an alderman of London who became Sheriff of Hertfordshire. The Hoo manor house was rebuilt during the mid C17. Sir Henry Hoo Keate, 3rd Baronet (c. 1696–1744) sold the manor in 1732 to Margaret Brand". Ther manor house was demolished in 1958.
