Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Guren-Hen Translated in English as "Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End", is a spin off movie based on its original animated television series Gurren Lagann. Following the story of the first 15 episodes of the television series, Guren-Hen offers a fresh and shortened take on the Japanese epic. Not offering much new footage, the movie -to fans of the show- doesn't offer a lot other than sentimentality. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Guren-Hen was released in Japan on September 6, 2008 and was produced by Dentsu Gainax Konami and TV Tokyo

Simon's "big bro" or "blood brother" as they say is a rebellious young adult from Giha village.(an underground village)Kamina's father travelled to the village's surface and left him behind. Kamina had since dreamed of going to the surface to explore. When a giant robotic head comes crashing through Giha village's ceiling, Kamina is givin the means of escaping his home town. As the first leader of team Gurren, Kamina pilot's a Robot shaped like a face to fight against the Beastmen

Simon(pronounced SEEM-OWN) the main character of the story is but a 14 year old boy who loves to dig with his hand crank drill. Simon lived in Giha village with his blood brother Kamina. At a young age Simon's parents were killed by tremors caused by Gunmen (Giant robot's shaped like faces). One day Simon was digging when he discovered a buried Gunmen. Simon and Kamina named the tiny Gunmen Lagann and together they fight the alien species keeping the human race underground.

Japanese - Yukari Fukui, English - Hynden Walch

Nia is the discarded daughter of the villain in the movie.(the Spiral King)Half way through the movie she is discovered in a disposal box by Simon and is brought into his group of alien fighters. Following the death of Kamina, Nia is the love interest of Simon.

YOKO LITTNER ^[9]

As the female lead in the movie Yoko Littner struts around carrying an enormous rifle. Introduced when the giant gunmen falls through the ceiling of Giha village. Yoko introduces Simon and Kamina to the outside world. Yoko fights the Gunmen along side the two main characters; and plays an important role in the relationship between Kamina and Simon.

in a Future where humankind has been pushed to extinction. Forced to live underground in fear of the powers that lurk above; The Gunmen piloted by Beastmen rule over the surface of earth, keeping the earths population to a minimum. The movie begins in Giha Village where the two main characters Kamina and Simon are introduced. In the beginning the two blood brothers are just normal kids with an insane amount of enthusiasm. Everything is normal until an earthquake happens following a Gunmen falling through the ceiling of Giha village. Enter Yoko Littner who had been fighting the gunmen on the surface. Simon and Kamina dispatch the gunmen with the little robot Simon had dug up that day. Enter Lagann. The trio’s combat leads to leaving Giha village and coming to earth’s surface.

On the surface it is baron. The spiral King Lordgenome(the villain of the story) keeps all humans underground by force. However, there are some humans who fight back. Coming to the surface, Yoko’s rebel group is introduced.

A gunmen attack gives Kamina the idea to hijack one of the enemies robots. comondering a gunmen gives the rebel group an edge that they had been looking for. catching the attention of the spiral king, a skilled gunmen fighter is sent to deal with Kamina and Simon. Enter a beastmen named Viral. In combat Simon and Kamina are unable to defeat Viral and his gunmen. It seems as though the duo is done for until Simon reveals his ability to combine his robot (Lagann) with Kamina’s(Gurren) creating an even more powerful gunmen(Gurren Lagann). Viral is pushed back.

The Spiral King then sends one of four of his elite to defeat the rebel group following Viral’s defeat. Enter Thymilph the crasher. As the commander of the Human Eradication Army Eastern Branch, Thymilph is sent to destroy Kamina and Simon at the helm of his giant tank-like gunmen the Dai-Gunzan. Simon and Kamina seem to be defeated when Simon combines his Lagann with the Dai-Gunzan taking control of it. Thymilph enters his own personal Gunmen and in an intense battle Kamina is killed. But only after just defeating Thymilph.

Simon devastated by the loss of his friend, goes into a rampage killing all the beastmen he can find. When his Lagann goes out of control and Simon falls down the side of a cliff. Enter Nia Teppelin the discarded daughter of the spiral king. she is brought back to the rebel camp with Simon. Simon instantly gains feelings for Nia.

After Thymilph’s defeat the Lordgenome was not going to underestimate his foe again. The remaining three generals of the spiral king are sent to put an end to the rebel group. Enter Adiane ,Cytomander ,and Guame. During Simon, Yoko and the rest of the groups battle with the three generals they are almost completely wiped out. Until Simon is pushed to his limit and realises his true potential. Simon gains an infinite amount of power through sheer force of will and defeats the three generals. Thus concluding the first Gurren Lagann film covering the first half of the television series.
