Cystine vs. Cysteine?

[edit]

Is it correct to refer to Cystine as an amino acid? Isn't it an amino-acid derivative? (Being formed by two Cysteine amino acids?) Perhaps I am confused, but it would be nice to see this point clarified in the article. --Dan|(talk) 09:12, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This has been rectified, it is currently correctly referred to as an amino acid dimer Jebus989 (talk) 13:26, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Graphical represention needed?

[edit]

would be nice to have the formation of the disulphide bond between the two C drawn out? Jebus989 (talk) 13:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Content missed: Tertiary structure

[edit]

Talking about cystine you must also talk about the proteins' tertiary structure. --178.197.236.188 (talk) 16:04, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Solved the problem in an elegant way by adding a link. --178.197.236.188 (talk) 16:14, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

An IPA pronunciation guide would be nice here. Seeing that cystine and cysteine are both things that exist, I checked the cysteine page and it does have one over there. Unfortunately in my British accent I don't see how cystine could be pronounced differently, but I'm sure there must be some difference, it would be extremely impractical if there weren't. I imagine that Americans pronounce cystine to (half-)rhyme with "mine", which I assume is why there is not already an IPA guide on this page.
